Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) Several political developments took place in the state, especially among the leaders of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), following the arrest of Minority Minister and party leader Nawab Malik by the Enforcement Directorate on money laundering charges. Top NCP leaders, including party chief Sharad Pawar, held a meeting at his Silver Oak residence. Thereafter, Pawar and other senior leaders, besides Ministers of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) rushed to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s official residence ‘Varsha’ and held another meeting there. State Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil cut short his state trip and rushed back to Mumbai. Earlier, the ED Advocate had argued that the property which was purchased by Malik and family at Goawala compound, was allegedly handled by the Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar’s sister Hasina Parkar. She was allegedly handling the property business of Don in Mumbai. The said property was Belong to Sardar Khan, who was one of the wanted accused in serial 1993 bomb blast case. The agency tried to establish that Malik had nexus with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar and sought 14-days custody of the accused. Defence Advocate Amit Desai argued that there was no connection of Malik with the underworld. The money laundering case cannot be registered against Malik as nothing incriminating was recovered from his residence. He added that the remand application was prepared on incomplete information and there was something missing in it. He said the PMLA case victim’s statement was an important document. He also argued that Malik was arrested in property deal case, where FIR of property deal case was registered. Earlier, Malik told his lawyer that without summons, he was picked up early in the morning from his residence at Bandra. After reaching the ED office, he was forced to signed on the summons. No information was given to him about his pick up by the agency. A confusion was built up in the court room on the name of Salim Patel and Salim Fruity. Later, ED clarified that both the names were of one person, on whose name the property was registered and from whom, Malik’s family purchased the property. The property deal was finalised prior to 2003, then why the government remained silent over the issue for more than 20 years, asked Malik. (EDS: Please pick up suitably from earlier series).
