On Thursday morning, Gujarat Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi resigned from his post, hours ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of the new Cabinet of ministers under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
The resignation was given by Trivedi who is the MLA from Raopura in Vadodara to the Deputy Speaker, saying that he is quitting with immediate effect. From September 16, 2021, Trivedi would discontinue the position of Speaker says the notification issued by the Gujarat Legislature Secretariat.

The secretary of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, read the notice issued by DM Patel which says, “Rajendra Trivedi has by writing under his hand, resigned from the office of the Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly with effect from September 16, 2021 forenoon. Therefore, the Office of the Speaker in the Assembly has become vacant from September 16, 2021, forenoon.”
The resignation came after the decision of the BJP to replace all 23 members of the former Vijay Rupani cabinet with younger faces, “no-repeat experiment” could be seen following by the party. Several ministers are seen to have an inconvenience as they were “informed over the phone that they wouldn’t be retained.” On Thursday, senior party leaders said “the outgoing minister would be placated before a fresh cabinet takes guard.”
On February 19, 2018, Trivedi, 65, had taken up office as the Speaker over from Ramanlal Vora. He has been MLA for two-term and also a minister of state for sports youth and cultural activities and pilgrimage development.
