Flight carrying Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee faces turbulence in mid-air

A chartered flight carrying Banerjee from Varanasi to the city encountered turbulence on Friday evening, causing the plane to rock violently.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday, two days after her chartered flight experienced mid-air turbulence, that another aircraft had come in front of her plane, and it was the pilot’s prompt action that prevented a head-on collision. She also stated that she had back and chest injuries.

The Bengal government requested a report from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Saturday after Banerjee’s plane encountered turbulence, injuring her back and chest.
The state government also inquired with the DGCA about whether the path taken by Banerjee’s chartered flight had been approved.

She was returning from Uttar Pradesh, where she had finished her campaign for the Samajwadi Party. “Another plane suddenly appeared in front of my aircraft.” If the scenario had lasted another ten seconds, a head-on collision would have occurred. I was only able to survive because of the pilot’s skill. The plane descended 6,000 feet. My back and chest were both injured. “I’m still in pain,” she admitted to reporters in the assembly.

Banerjee also stated that her plane was not caught in an air pocket. On Friday evening, a chartered flight from Varanasi to Kolkata encountered turbulence, causing the plane to rock violently.

The pilot successfully landed at Netaji Subhas Chandra International Airport. Banerjee, on the other hand, was injured as a result of the steep descent the plane had to make to avoid the turbulence. The CM was aboard a Dassault Falcon 2000, a 10.3-tonne lightweight plane that can carry up to 19 passengers, including two flight attendants.
