Droupadi Murmu set to be elected as the 15th President of India

NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu is expected to take her place as Her Excellency the 15th President of India winning against Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.

New Delhi, July 20: NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu looks all set to become the 15th President of India winning against Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha as counting for the Presidential polls will take place on Thursday.

The Presidential election took place on July 18 with elected members of Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies comprising the electoral college voting to elect the next President.

The trends on the day of polls indicated a clear majority in favour of Murmu against her rival Sinha.

The ruling BJP expects Murmu to get two thirds votes in the polls for the highest office of the country.

Out of a total 4,025 eligible MLAs for voting in the Presidential election, a total of 3,991 MLAs voted. A total of 771 MPs voted in the polls out of total 763 eligible MPs.

The counting of votes in the Presidential election will begin at 11 am in Parliament House Room Number 63 on Thursday.

The results will be declared soon after.

The new President of India will officially take oath to replace President Ram Nath Kovind on July 25.

Once elected, Murmu will be the first ever tribal woman to occupy the highest post. Besides, she would be the first President of India born post independence. And the youngest ever at the age of 64 years.

She was born on June 20, 1958. All previous Presidents of India were born before Independence.
