Congress raises concerns over Assam floods

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi asked party workers to provide all possible help to the people of Assam who are affected by the devastating floods.

New Delhi, June 23: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday asked the workers of the Congress party to provide all possible help to the people of Assam who are affected by the devastating floods.

Taking to Twitter, Priyanka Gandhi said, “There is an appeal to all the workers of the Indian National Congress to stand with the sisters and brothers of Assam in this difficult time and do all possible help in the relief work”.

“The lives of lakhs of people were affected by the severe floods in Assam. I pray to God to protect everyone” she added.

Earlier, MP Rahul Gandhi has also expressed concern over flood situation in Assam and urged party workers and leaders for continuing their assistance to the affected people.

The former Congress president also condoles the loss of lives in the Northeastern state because of floods and landslides.

“My thoughts are with our brothers and sisters in Assam facing unprecedented floods. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I urge Congress workers and leaders to continue extending assistance to rescue and rehabilitation operations”. The Congress MP wrote in a tweet.

Several districts of the state are affected by the floods caused due to incessant rainfall.

The death toll due to heavy rains and flood in the state crossed 100 on Wednesday. After 12 de deaths were reported in the different districts. According to the official data around 55 lakh people have. So far been affected across the 32 districts in the state.
