Accepting uneasy truce in Rajasthan to save democracy, says Ashok Gehlot

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot meets with MLAs to urge them to accept an ‘uneasy truce’ and to forget and forgive.

After a meeting between Sachin Pilot and senior Congress leaders, a truce had been declared but it seems that all is not well yet.

In an interview with reporters, Rajasthan Chief Minister said that the MLAs that had been staying at the Jaisalmer hotel and the other loyal MLAs are uneasy about the truce and there is obvious resentment over the fact the the ‘baaghi’ MLAs including Sachin Pilot have been let back into the Congress fold without reparations or consequences for their actions.

The Chief Minister said, “It is natural for the MLAs to be upset. The manner in which this episode occurred and the way in which they stayed for a month, it was natural. I’ve explained to them that sometimes we need to be tolerant if we have to serve the nation, state, people and save democracy. We have to forgive mistakes. It is for the sake of democracy. Democracy is in danger. More than 100 MLAs stood by me. That in itself is remarkable. This fight is to save democracy and the BJP failed to do in Rajasthan what it did in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. We will be united for the sake of democracy.”
