Abdullah Azam, son of Azam Khan might get banned from contesting elections for the next 6 years

The letter says, he should be barred under Section 8-A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, if convicted of corrupt conduct.

A letter demanding to ban Abdullah Azam, son of Azam Khan, Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament,  from contesting elections for next six years has been written to the President of India on behalf of the UP Legislative Secretariat. An order to debar his election participation might be issued if the President obtains consent from the Election Commission. Nawab Kazim Ali Khan, a former MLA of Rampur district wrote the letter.

The letter says, he should be barred under Section 8-A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, if convicted of corrupt conduct.

Allahabad High Court held Abdullah guilty of corrupt conduct due to misrepresentation of his date of birth. Abdullah was elected as an MLA from Swar in 2017 when he claimed to be 25 years old. He was held guilty of contesting and winning elections on the basis of a fake birth date. The Allahabad HC marked his election invalid in December 2018. The Assembly Secretariat dismissed his membership.

Currently, Abdullah is lodged in the Sitapur jail along with his father Azam Khan and mother Tazin Fatima.
