Vodafone Idea CEO Balesh Sharma resigns, to be replaced by Ravinder Takkar

Sharma has been the CEO of Vodafone Idea since the completion of the merger. He was Chief Operating Officer of Vodafone India before that and now will take up a new role job with Vodafone Group, which will be announced further.

Indian Telecom organization Vodafone Idea Ltd. on Monday said that Balesh Sharma has ventured down from the position of (CEO) referring to personal reasons. Ravinder Takkar, as of now Vodafone Group’s representative in India, will be named as the new MD and CEO with prompt impact, the telecom major said in an announcement.

The company stated in a press release saying, “The Board of Vodafone Idea Limited today announced that it has accepted Balesh Sharma’s request for personal reasons to step down as CEO of Vodafone Idea.”

Sharma has been the CEO of Vodafone Idea since the completion of the merger. He was Chief Operating Officer of Vodafone India before that and now will take up a new role job with Vodafone Group, which will be reported at the appropriate time. “Balesh has driven the strategy of the combined business since its formation and he has also spearheaded the largest-ever equity raise in India,” Vodafone Idea said.

Ravinder Takkar is right now a board member of Vodafone Idea and Indus Towers, where he is in charge of all Vodafone Group interests in India. He assumed the position in 2017. Preceding his present role, Ravinder was the CEO of Vodafone Romania for a long time and CEO of Vodafone Partner Markets in London.

“He has been with Vodafone Group since 1994 and brings a wealth of experience in telecom industry having worked in several leadership positions across Vodafone’s operating companies over the last 25 years,” the company said.

Ahead of the declaration, shares of Vodafone Idea shut trade at Rs 5.99 each, down 7.13 percent, on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Monday.
