Virbhadra Singh, the former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader passed away at the age of 87

In the early hours of Thursday at the age of 87, Virbhadra Singh, the former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader passed away, according to a report released by India Today.

Singh was battling a prolonged illness and around 4:00 a.m. at the Indira Gandhi medical college hospital, he took his final breath as per the news agency Press Trust of India. The senior medical superintendent of the Indira Gandhi medical college hospital, Dr Janak Raj told the agency that multi-organ failure was the reason behind former CM Virbhadra Singh’s death.

Singh was admitted to the Max hospital in Chandigarh as he was tested positive for coronavirus on 12th April and was discharged from the hospital on 30th April after recovering from the disease. Although he had recovered from the infection, within hours he complained of breathing problems due to which he had to be taken to the Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital and since then he was in there. Singh was put on a ventilator for the last two days, as mentioned by the sources close to him.

Between 1982 to 1983, Singh had served as minister of state for industries along with serving as the Union minister of steel between 2009 to 2011, while he was first elected to Lok Sabha in 1962, he had also served as the Union Minister of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) from between 2011 to 2012.
