On June 21, he was summoned by the police of Uttar Pradesh in connection with the viral video of an alleged hate crime. The police had asked him to appear before them in person on June 24 at the Loni border police station. Subsequently, Maheshwari had moved the Karnataka High Court regarding the notice. The HC, however, in its order on July 23, quashed the notice issued by the UP Police to him while allowing them to question Maheshwari virtually at his office or his residence in Bengaluru.
Furthermore, the Ghaziabad police had booked him, Twitter, Twitter India, several journalists and some Congress leaders regarding the case.
Before Twitter, Maheshwari has worked at organizations including Procter & Gamble and McKinsey & Co. He co-founded a mobile technology startup called txtWeb, which was incubated within American software firm Intuit.
