Tesla Elon Musk sued by Twitter critic over defamation claims

Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk has been accused of defaming a long-time critic of the company and triggering an online hate campaign against him.

Tesla Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk has been accused of defaming a long-time critic of the company and triggering an online hate campaign against him.

Randeep Hothi, a student of University of Michigan, in his twitter handle “@skabooshka“, says after Musk accused him of “almost” killing Tesla employees, he was hit with “an onslaught of hateful Twitter responses, accusing Hothi of being a liar, a murderer, a terrorist, and a deranged maniac.”

In February 2019, Hothi was confronted by a security guard when he showed up to do research at the Tesla sales center in Fremont, California. Second incident happened, in April 2019, Hothi said he was driving when he spotted a Tesla test car and took photos of it, which he later posted online.

Tesla has sought a restraining order in which it claimed that Hothi had hit the security guard with his car and dangerously swerved toward the test car. Tesla had to drop this suit after a judge ordered it to turn in video of the alleged incidents.

Randeep Hothi’s has described himself in the Twitter handle as ‘Investigating/Reporting on corporate fraud. Currently focusing on Tesla. DMs open for fellow travelers, reporters, whistleblowers, etc.

The lawsuit no. is Hothi v. Musk, RG20069852, Alameda County Superior Court.
