RIP Manmohan Singh: Ashok Gehlot, Mamata Bannerjee, Omar Abdullah and several other pay tribute

Former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday after being hospitalized to AIIMS as his health deteriorated. The politician, who had also served as governor of Reserve Bank of India and as Finance Minister, passed away at the age of 91.

The world’s renowned economist is trending on the internet and several leaders of Indian political world have been paying their last respect, including several chief ministers of several states.

The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir took to his X handle and wrote, “Very sorry to hear about the demise of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh. I had many occasions to interact & learn from him. He was truly an intellectual giant, an accomplished economist but above all he was a thorough gentleman.”

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee penned, “I had worked with him and saw him from very close quarters in the Union Cabinet. His erudition and wisdom were unquestionable, and the depth of the financial reforms ushered in by him in the country are widely acknowledged.”

Describing the legend as a “statesman,” he said that his leadership and vision has left an indelible mark on our nation. He recalled gaining the position of Karnataka CM for the first time under the leadership of Singh. “My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. His legacy will continue to inspire generations,” he wrote.

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot posted, “The demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is an irreparable loss for the country. Dr. Saheb was simple, gentle and honest. Manmohan Singh has contributed a lot to India’s economic development, strengthening of the economy and establishing India as an economic power in the world. As Finance Minister, he took a big step like economic liberalization which gave a new direction to India.”
