Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra calls lockdown extensions “Economically disastrous, create another medical crisis”

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra said on Monday that Lockdown extensions are not only economically disastrous but also create another medical crisis.

He acknowledged the fact that such decisions are not easy for the policymakers but remained adamant that a lockdown extension will not help. He said in a tweet, “Lockdown extensions aren’t just economically disastrous, as I had tweeted earlier, but also create another medical crisis.” Check out what he says on this link:

His statements come after an article was published on Forbes that highlighted the lockdowns as, “a “mass casualty incident” with “exponentially growing negative health consequences” to millions of non COVID patients.” The article also mentioned the dangerous psychological effects of the lockdowns.

He tweeted, “The numbers (Coronavirus cases) will continue to rise and the focus must be on rapid expansion of field hospital beds with oxygen lines. The army has enormous expertise in this.”

Even before the government announced the nationwide lockdown, Mr. Anand Mahindra, on March 22 had proposed this move. He had expressed concern over reports that India was already at the third stage of the Coronavirus transmission.
