Keshub Mahindra who was credited as India’s oldest billionaire passed away today on the 12th of April, 2023 as confirmed through an official communications tweet posted by INSPACe Chairman Pawan K Goenka.
Mr. Mahindra had joined the iconic Mahindra Group in 1947, and led the company as its chairman for 48 years leaving behind a powerful legacy.
As the chairman of the India’s leading international conglomerate between 1963 and 2012, under his leadership the firm got its first start by selling and manufacturing utility vehicles.
The Wharton graduate had recently re-entered the Forbes list of India’s Richest Billionaires for 2023 shortly after which, the news of his death was announced today.
He held a legendary presence in the nation as a well-known philanthropist who contributed to the cause of building ethical corporations in India. Appointed by the Government of India to serve on various committees, including the Sachar Commission on Company Law & MRTP, Central Advisory Council of Industries, and many more, Mr. Mahindra held a strong identity on national development and betterment of the people.
With a whopping net worth of $1.2 billion, he is survived by his family which is India’s iconic Mahindra Family inclusive of his nephew, Anand Mahindra, who currently holds the same position as the Chairman of the Mahindra Group.
