Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest man, and his family received some threats on Monday. Threats were made against the billionaire who owns and chairs the largest company in terms of market share, Reliance Industries (RIL). The hospital filed a complaint with the Mumbai police, and one person is said to have been detained during the investigation. The investigation is still ongoing.
At least eight to nine calls were made to the hospital around 10.30 a.m. today, right after the flag-hoisting ceremony was finished as part of the celebration of India’s 75th year of independence.
The hospital was quick to respond and filed a complaint at the DB Marg Police Station, which alerted the Mumbai police.
According to sources, police presence has been increased around the Ambani residence, in addition to the presence of private security.
The hospital received more than three calls, according to Mumbai Police. A case has been filed, and an investigation is currently underway.
Meanwhile, according to a PTI report, an official stated that preliminary investigation indicated the caller was mentally unstable.
This is not the first time that India’s richest family has received threats. Last February, an explosives-laden SUV was discovered parked outside Ambanis ‘Antilia,’ prompting an NIA investigation that is still ongoing.
Following the threats, the Supreme Court granted the government permission to continue providing security for Ambani and his family members in Mumbai in July of this year.
