1) Pranab Mukherjee always wanted to connect with common people as much as possible. He abolished the system of addressing him as ‘His Excellency’ during his presidentship. He used to host various functions in the premises of Rashtrapati Bhavan to avoid public nuisance. He also opened Rashtrapati Bhavan, Mughal Gardens and Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum as tourist circuits.
2) During the last 2 years of his presidentship, Pranab Mukherjee used to teach students of class 11 and 12 of Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in the Rashtrapati Bhavan premises. Before entering into politics, he was a college teacher.
3) Pranab Mukherjee dismissed total 31 mercy pleas during his presidentship. It is really a bold move as no other president before him except R Venkatraman could reject so many petitions.
4) Pranab Mukherjee launched ‘Smartgram’ initiative for holistic development of villages in terms of skills and technology.
5) Pranab Mukherjee launched ‘Samskriti’, ‘Sangram’, ‘Sparsh’and ‘Sanskar’ programs for the welfare of children, elders, special children and the nutrition of children respectively.
