Entering ‘Twitter.com’ into your browser will take you to X.com, which is favored by its owner Elon Musk, however, some users might still experience mixed results, which might be due to their login status and choice of browser.

At the bottom of the X login page, a message can be read, which assures users that their privacy and data protection settings remain unchanged despite the URL shift. This marks the culmination of rebranding efforts, which were initiated by the Tesla founder, who envision the social media platform as “everything app” similar to China’s WeChat.

While many aspects of the platform, such as its official accounts, subscription service, and mobile apps, had transitioned to ‘X’ long time ago, its lingering Twitter.com URLs had been a source of confusion and also a vulnerability for phishing attacks.

The transition is not without historical significance for Musk, who launched a financial services company under x.com name in 1999, which later on merged to form PayPal.

In a social media statement, Lemon said he was fired from X after an interview filmed last week with the Musk, who owns the platform, and added that the show’s first episode will be released Monday.

Elon announced the termination of his partnership with X, which they announced as a part of their public commitment to amplifying more diverse voices on their platform. “He informed me of his decision hours after an interview I conducted with him on Friday,” said Lemon on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Tragedy strikes Tamil Nadu: explosion at firecracker factory claims lives, prompts PM’s condolences and relief efforts

A tragic incident occurred in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhnagar district on Saturday evening, where at least 9 individuals lost their lives and 10 others sustained injuries due to a large explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit.

According to reports from news agency ANI, eight individuals lost their lives in the explosion at a firecracker factory in the Virudhnagar district, with ten others sustaining injuries. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. However, PTI quoted a higher casualty count, stating that ten people, including four women, were killed in the incident.

Following the explosion, visuals depicted extensive damage to the entire infrastructure, with the blast causing the collapse of the entire firecracker industrial unit.

Initial reports suggest that the incident occurred approximately at 12:30 pm on Saturday within the chemical mixing room of the firecracker manufacturing unit located in the village.

Virudhunagar District Collector Jeyaseelan, addressing reporters, stated that the accident occurred around noon. Nine individuals have tragically lost their lives, and three remain in critical condition. The injured have been promptly admitted to Sivakasi Hospital. It’s important to note that the plant in question possesses a valid license. In response to this tragic incident, a thorough investigation led by the District Revenue Officer has been initiated. Additionally, they have deployed four teams comprising the police, fire department, labour welfare department, and revenue department to ensure continuous vigilance and preventive measures against such accidents.

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed his condolences for the loss of lives in the unfortunate incident at a firecracker factory in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu. He also extended his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Twitter users fume as Elon Musk moves to remove ‘block’ feature on ‘X’

On Friday Elon Musk announced that the microblogging site ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter, would no longer have its own block feature as it did not make sense. In response to a tweet from Tesla owners in Silicon Valley, Elon Musk said that the block would be removed as a feature, except for direct messages.

The Block feature prevents users from communicating with specific accounts on the microblogs platform. Elon Musk posted, “Block is going to be deleted as a ‘feature’, except for DMs,”, indicating the possibility for “direct messages” between users of a Social Media Platform, which was once called Twitter, will still be available.

However, Elon Musk had to face backlash from Twitter users on his decision of removing the ‘block’ feature.

People stated the fact that Twitter users would be at risk of online harassment and cyberbullying if the Block feature is removed.

An user tweeted, “This is a huge mistake. Block is a critical feature on this app. Regretted minutes would skyrocket. There are certain evil people that users just don’t want following them or replying to them. Scammers, cyber stalkers, etc. I suspect many people would abandon X if they can’t block the harassing accounts out of their lives.”

Another user also mentioned that if the block feature is removed, they would have to delete their account.

In addition, one Twitter user pointed out that the removal of the blocking feature was in direct violation of the App Store Guidelines, and predicted that Elon Musk would soon reverse himself and say that he was joking.

The company’s advertising revenues have fallen, partly as a result of their looser approach on blocking hate speech and returning banned right wing accounts, since Tesla founder Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion last October.

According to the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), a non profit organisation, hate speech has flourished on the platform and ‘X’ has disputed the findings and is suing the CCDH.

In December, Elon Musk had reinstated a Twitter account of former US president Donald Trump although he hasn’t yet returned to the platform. He was banned from Twitter in early 2021 for his role in the January 6 attack on the US Capitol by a group of his supporters seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

According to reports, about eight months after rapper and designer Kanye West’s account was suspended by Elon Musk’s X, it was recently reinstated.

According to reports, the social media platform ‘X’ (former Twitter) is testing a new feature that will require a user to upload an image of a government-issued ID and a live selfie, to get their handle verified on the platform.

Such has been described by Nima Owji, whose X profile describes him as “an independent app researcher and blogger looking for features for various upcoming apps.”

Owji said in a post, “#X keeps working on the ID verification. You should upload a photo of your ID and take a live selfie.”

He also provided a screenshot of the identity verification feature, which shows that it takes about five minutes to verify an account. The user must first prepare a government ID, check if their device’s camera is uncovered and working, and finally, prepare to take photos of the ID with a live selfie.

According to sources, the tech giant is implementing this identification system to ensure the authenticity of a person, in other words, to prevent imitation.

The giant glowing “X” sign installed on the roof of the company’s downtown office has been removed from the San Francisco headquarters of the company formerly known as Twitter just days after it was installed. On Monday, the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection said that it received 24 complaints about the unpermitted structure over the weekend. Complaints included concerns about its structural safety and illumination.

According to sources, the complaints also included criticisms that the display wasn’t permitted and was a nuisance and that its flashing lights made it hard for residents to sleep.

The complaints that were filed last Friday also said the old Twitter sign on the side of the building, which police had stopped workers from dismantling, was in an “unsafe condition” and that a city inspector had visited the headquarters and requested access to the roof where the “X” sign was installed, but had been denied by the company. An X representative reportedly explained to the inspector that the “X” structure was a “temporary lighted sign for an event.”

Last week, an investigation was launched by the city officials into the company’s headquarters following the installation of the sign.

According to Patrick Hannan, the spokesperson of the Department of Building Inspection, a “building permit is required to make sure the sign is structurally sound and installed safely.”

On Saturday, the social networking site X restored Ye’s account, the musician formerly known as Kanye West, after it had been suspended nearly eight months prior for violating the platform’s policies against inciting violence.

Ye’s last tweet on platform X, the new moniker owner Elon Musk has given Twitter, was published on December 1, a day before his account was suspended.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, citing X, that Ye won’t be able to monetize his account there and that ads won’t show up next to his posts.

Two months after being restored, Ye’s account was suspended in December because one of his earlier posts appeared to portray a swastika symbol inside a Star of David.

According to the article, which cited a source familiar with the situation, X restored Ye’s account after receiving assurances that he wouldn’t use the platform to disseminate antisemitic or other abusive comments.

Ye hasn’t shared any new content since returning to the platform.

A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by the social networking site.

The rapper had returned to the site in October after his account had been reinstated for the first time, according to the billionaire owner of X, who describes himself as a free speech absolutist.

Twitter’s rebranding by Elon Musk appears to be in progress. Musk informed followers in a string of late-night tweets on Saturday that the company’s renowned bird moniker and emblem would be retiring soon. It appears that the corporation will be known only as “X.”

“And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” he tweeted. He later said in a Twitter space that the Twitter logo would be changed Sunday. “It should have been done a long time ago, sorry it took so long,” he said.

He reportedly informed staff through email later that evening. According to Platformer’s Zoe Schiffer, Musk sent an email to the team informing them that the business would change its name to X. Musk also stated that this email “was the last email he’ll ever send from a Twitter email address.”

A request for comment from Twitter did not immediately receive a response.

Musk’s preference for the “X” branding has long been known. He co-founded a banking firm in 1999 called x.com, and his recently disclosed artificial intelligence endeavour is called xAI. Additionally, in April, X Corp. assaulted Twitter’s holding company. Additionally, Musk has discussed how X will assist Twitter in becoming a “everything app.” Although Musk hasn’t provided many details about this idea, many think he’s referring to WeChat, the most widely used app in China, which is used for a variety of daily tasks in addition to social networking, including payments and shopping.

But for Musk, formally giving up the Twitter name might be a hazardous decision. The business has already lost more than half of its advertising revenue due to an advertiser exodus. A rebrand might enrage sponsors even more. While doing so, Musk might be placing a wager that the company would be able to break its ties with its previous leadership and the judgements that were made while they were in charge, both of which he has been harshly critical of.
