Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported on Wednesday that 20 Iranian sailors who were aboard a vessel seized by the United States have returned home following what Tehran described as extensive diplomatic efforts.

According to IRNA, the sailors arrived back in Iran after negotiations and diplomatic coordination involving Iranian authorities and relevant international channels. Iranian officials have not yet publicly disclosed the full details regarding the timeline of the sailors’ detention, the vessel involved or the precise circumstances surrounding the seizure by US authorities.

The development comes at a time of heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran across the Gulf region and major international shipping routes.
