Urmila Matondkar, an actor, and politician, joined Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra this morning as it began at Nagrota, a military town in Jammu.

Ms. Matondkar joined Rahul Gandhi immediately after the march began near the army garrison at around 8 am. They were greeted by Congress supporters and workers who had gathered in front of the road along the march’s route. Urmila Matondkar, 48, joined the Shiv Sena in 2020 after leaving the Congress in September 2019 after only six months of membership.

Ms. Matondkar was talking to Gandhi while they marched while wearing a beanie cap and a traditional Kashmiri pheran (loose gown) in a cream colour.

Renowned novelist Perumal Murugan, the head of the J&K Pradesh Congress committee Vikar Rasool Wani, his predecessor GA Mir, and former minister Abdul Hamid Karra all joined them while carrying the tricolour. The yatra, which began on September 7 in Kanyakumari, entered Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday from Punjab and arrived in Jammu city on Monday.

On the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the march is slated to stop for two nights at Ramban and Banihal before coming to an end on January 30 in Srinagar with a large rally at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium.

However, Urmila told Times Of India, “Post Rangeela, people said that everything I did was about sex appeal and nothing to do with acting. How can the song, Hai Rama, happen without a person being a performer? Is doing a tear-jerking scene only acting? Appearing sexy also demands acting. I was not playing Miss Nothing in the film. My character of the girl-next-door transforms through each song of the film, which the critics didn’t understand.”

Ex-Congress candidate and actor Urmila Matondkar set to join Shiv Sena tomorrow

Female actor Urmila Matondkar, who had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate and quit the party later, will join the Shiv Sena on Tuesday, a party functionary said.

MP Sanjay Raut and Harshal Pradhan (a close aide of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray) both said that the actor will join the party in the CM’s presence.

Urmila Matondkar’s name has been forwarded to Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari by the Shiv Sena for nomination to the Legislative Council from the governor’s quota.

The names of 11 others have also been forwarded by the three-party Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government for their nomination from the governor’s quota.

The actor had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Mumbai North constituency as a Congress candidate. However, she later quit the party over the functioning of Congress’ Mumbai unit.

Nevertheless in her recent interview, Urmila Matondkar revealed that she did face nepotism at the beginning of her career as well because various new faces were making their debut in the same year as she was, out of which most of them were related to the industry. Now, the Rangeela actress Urmila Matondkar has slammed Kangana for her drug comment on Bollywood, stating to India Today, the actress said, “The entire country is facing the menace of drugs. Does she know Himachal is the origin of drugs? She should start from her own state. If one person shouts all the time doesn’t mean the person is speaking the truth. Some people want to crib all the time and play the victim card and if all that fails, they play the women card”.She further added, “Why did this person who have been given Y-security from the taxpayers money didn’t give information about the drug nexus to the police?”

Urmila Matondkar who played the lead role in Rangeela (1995) beside Aamir Khan and Jackie Shroff wrote an emotional note on the film completing silver jubilee of 25 years. She thanked her fans for supporting her back then. The actress took to her social media to post her note with a beautiful picture of her from the movie.

The actress penned down the lyrics of a song from the film, “Chal mera sang sang. Lele duniya ka rang. Hoja Rangeela re”. She further added, “Aur aap sab chale… ak lamhe aur behatarin safar par mera sath.. jo aab tak jaari hai.. mera dil ka gaharayion se aap sabka bas sukriya aur dhanyabad thanks ek chhote ghar ki bade sapanon vali ladki ka sath dena ka lie”.
