Maharashtra Govt withdraws demolition order for Union minister Narayan Rane’s bungalow

Mumbai, March 29: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday disposed off a petition after the Maharashtra government today informed the court that it has withdrawn the demolition order issued for the bungalow of union minister Narayan Rane situated in Juhu area of the city’s suburb. Arguing before the Division bench consisting of Justice AA Sayed and MS Karnik, state advocate general Ashutosh Kumbhakoni informed the court that the state of Maharashtra has withdrawn the demolition order against the bungalow belonging to union Minister Narayan Rane. He also said that “reserving its right to take requisite action in future, the Maharashtra government had decided to withdraw the March 21 communication, or order” on demolition of parts of Rane’s Juhu bungalow. Kumbhkoni made the statement in response to a petition filed by Rane seeking quashing of the Bombay Municipal Corporation notice under Section 488 of Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act, 1888, directing the members of Rane family to remove alleged illegal constructions in their Adish Bungalow or the same would be demolished by the authorities. The statement was recorded by the bench and later the court disposed the plea.

BS Yediyurappa pleads Centre for early approvals for Mekedatu and Kalasa-Banduri Nala projects

Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa, who is currently in Delhi today met the Union Minister for Environment and Forests and Climate change, Prakash Javadekar and requested to direct the concerned authorities in the Ministry to grant the terms of Reference for Mekedatu Project, the state Information Department said in an official release.

Yediyurappa also urged the Centre for early clearances or approvals to Mekedatu and Kalasa-Banduri Nala projects aimed at providing drinking water supply, which the neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Goa are opposed to, respectively.

Cabinet approves of National Recruitment Agency to conduct Common Eligibility Test for govt, PSB’s jobs

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar briefed the media on August 19, after the Cabinet meeting held earlier today. He announced key decisions taken during the meet.

It has also approved the setting up of National Recruitment Agency (NRA) to conduct Common Eligibility Test (CET), a decision that is expected to benefit job seeking youth of the country. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said the merit list of the CET will remain valid for three years, during which time candidates can apply for jobs in different sectors depending upon their aptitude and preferences.

The CET score will be made available to the candidate as well as to the individual recruitment agency. Each candidate will have two additional chances to improve his score, and the best of all scores will be considered.

CET merit list may be made available to the states by NRA on cost-sharing basis, for undertaking recruitment to state government jobs. C Chandramouli, Secretary to the govt, said there are over 20 recruitment agencies in the central government, adding that while although exams of only three agencies are being made common as of now, in due course of time a Common Eligibility Test for all recruitment agencies will be adopted. With the approval of NRA, nearly 2.5 job seekers in India who apply for multiple examinations to various government and public sector agencies will now have to appear for a single online entrance test, CET.

The proposal to set up NRA for conducting CET was part of the announcements made by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her Union budget speech on February 1 this year.The CET proposal seeks to cut costs, inconvenience and time for the government, recruiting agencies and candidates taken in recruitment process for non-gazetted posts in the government and public sector banks.

At 1:50 this afternoon, India’s Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted India’s air traffic stats since the lockdown was opened.
The lockdown in India started on the 25th of March and was announced over on the 25th of May.
His tweet read, “Indians continue to fly high! Domestic Operations on 16th August 2020, Day 85 till 2359 hrs. Departures 947 93,639 passengers handled. Arrivals 945 89,887 passengers handled. Total movements 1892. Footfalls at airports 1,83,526. Total number of flyers 93,639.”

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tests positive for COVID-19

Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Dharmendra Paradhan, tested positive for the novel Coronavirus on Tuesday. CNN News18 reported that the minister was admitted to Medanta Hospital immediately after the test results came out positive.

This news comes in two days after the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, tested positive for the COVID-19 infection and was admitted to the same Gurugram hospital.

As per India TV, Pradhan was already in isolation officials from his staff tested positive for the virus.

The Coronavirus infection has started to spread like wildfire amongst the Bhartiya Janata Party ministers. Other COVID-19 infected persons include, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and the party chief from Uttar Pradesh, Swatantra Dev Singh.

Chinese firms barred from participating in Highway Projects, says Nitin Gadkari

After the unprecedented ban on the Chinese apps, the government of India has taken yet another move by forbidding the Chinese companies to participate in highway projects. The Union minister, Nitin Gadkari, announced on Wednesday that India will not allow Chinese companies to invest in the highway projects.

“We will not give permission to joint ventures that have Chinese partners for road construction.” said the Mr. Gadkari. In a statement to the Press Trust of India, he further added that “we have taken a firm stand that if they (Chinese companies) come via joint venture in our country, we will not allow it”.

The Union Minister also gave an assurance by stating that the government will ensure that various sectors like Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), don’t entertain Chinese investors. At the same time, he also mentioned that a policy, focusing on banning Chinese investments and relaxing norms for expanding the eligibility criterion to increase India’s participation, is under process.

This decision of banning Chinese companies’ investments in road infrastructure would be applicable on the ongoing and the future projects as well. It is important to be considered that only a few projects are in process which were taken in joint ventures with some Chinese companies earlier. The minister asserted that rebidding would be done if there are any projects in joint venture with Chinese companies.

While elucidating further on the decision, he mentioned that the norms for local companies will be relaxed enabling small scale companies to take large scale projects. He re-emphasized on the fact that foreign investment promotion is crucial to the Modi government. However, no investment propositions would be considered from any Chinese company from now.

The government has taken this move in just three days after the ‘digital surgical strike’ conducted by banning 59 Chinese apps including the widely consumed TikTok. While the ban was put to ensure data security of the Indian users, the move attracted a strong reaction from the Chinese government. The foreign ministry spokesperson told the media that the country was “strongly concerned” with India’s move and urged India to oblige with the responsibilities towards the foreign investors including Chinese companies.
