The Film lead actors Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur, whose on-screen pairing has already attracted attention among fans of contemporary Hindi cinema. The year 2022 seems not to be favourable for Bollywood anyway. Even the most eminent actors are failing to attract the audiences. After back to back failures at the box office including ‘Bachhan Pandey’, ‘Dhakkad’, Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’, Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Liger’ and Taapsee Pannu’s ‘Dobaaraa’ Hindi film industry is loosing credence to the mass. Now the theatre screens are also turning away.

Reportedly, some theatre owners in this crisis decide to partially close the screens or reduce the shows until the release of one of the most-awaited films ‘Brahmastra’.

In an exclusive interview with The Free Press Journal the Executive Director of G7 Multiplex and Maratha Mandir Cinema, Manoj Desai, himself confirms this news.

According to The Free Press Journal, Desai said, “Films are not working well these days and if this continues, then we’ll shut Gaiety Cinema till September 9. All the other theatres shall remain open. Also, these days, people are busy because of Ganesh Chaturthi and Bandra Fair. So now, we’ve not fixed anything. We’ll have a meeting now. But mostly, Gaiety will be shut and apart from that all the theatres will remain open. I have seven theatres and six will be working. Because there are no films now, there’s no point in keeping the theatre open.”

Desai also affirms “Gaiety will be re-opened on September 9 when ‘Brahmastra’ releases.”

Helming by Ayan Mukerji, the film ‘Brahmastra’ casts Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna Akkineni. Shah Rukh Khan also has a guest appearance in the film as confirmed by Mouni Roy.

Kiara Advani’s ‘Indoo ki Jawani’ to hit theatres on 11th December

Kiara Advani‘s next film, ‘Indoo ki Jawani‘ is all set to be released in the theatres on 11th December 2020. It was earlier being said that the film will have a digital release. However, it will directly release in cinema halls now.

Filmfare made a tweet confirming the theatre release on Saturday (21st November). The tweet reads, “#KiaraAdvani’s #IndooKiJawani to release in theatres on December 11, 2020.”

‘Indoo ki Jawani’ is the story of a girl from Ghaziabad whose experience with dating app results in hilarious chaos. This is Kiara’s first female-centric film. It also stars Aditya Seal in the lead role.

The film was earlier supposed to release in June 2020. However, owing to the pandemic and the resulting lockdown, the release was postponed. Kiara’s recent film ‘Laxmii‘ was also released on the OTT platform due to the same reason.

Cinema halls to open in Maharashtra from 5th November with precautions

Maharashtra had shut the door of its cinema halls to the audience since the lockdown began in March owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, the cinema halls and multiplexes are all set to open from tomorrow (5th November).

An order issued by the state government of Maharashtra states that cinema halls and multiplexes can start operating from 5th November with 50% capacity. However, strict measures will have to be implemented to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

The order reads, “Cinema halls/theatres/multiplexes/drama theatres will be allowed to open with 50% of their seating capacity in areas outside the Containment Zones only with effect from November 5, 2020. No eatables will be allowed inside the Cinema halls/theatres/multiplexes/drama theatres. The SOP for the same will be issued by the Cultural Affairs Department and local authorities. The Cultural Affairs Department will take into consideration the SOP issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Further, all norms of social distancing and precaution to prevent Covid-19 shall be followed.”

Earlier in October, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray had held a virtual meeting with cinema hall and multiplex owners. He had assured them that the cultural department was trying their level best to have the theatres reopen for the audience.

In a statement, the CM had mentioned, “In a cinema hall, people are in a closed air-conditioned space for nearly two hours. Hence, we want to ensure complete cleanliness and sanitisation as well as physical distancing. There is a need to ensure only 50% seats are occupied.”

The news has been welcomed by filmmakers, film exhibitors, and theatre owners across the state.
