Abdul Makki of Pakistan is named a global terrorist a year after China blocked attempt

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) designated Pakistan-based terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist on Monday, according to its ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee.

This categorization comes after China blocked India’s effort to designate the leader of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) as a global terrorist last year. In June 2022, India condemned China for blocking a request to include terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki on the Sanctions Committee, commonly known as the UN Security Council 1267 Committee.

“On January 16, 2023, the Security Council Committee pursuant to Resolutions 1267 (1999), 1989 (2011), and 2253 (2015) concerning ISIL (Da’esh), Al-Qaida, and associated individuals, groups, undertakings, and entities approved the addition of the entry specified below to its ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the asset freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2610 (2021) and adopted under Chapter VII of the United Nations,” the UN said in a statement.

Makki has already been designated a terrorist by India and the United States. He has raised cash, recruited and radicalised youth to violence, and planned assaults in India, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.

Makki is Hafiz Saeed’s brother-in-law and the leader of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). He has held a variety of senior positions within LeT, a US-designated foreign terrorist organisation (FTO). He has also helped raise funding for LeT operations.

According to the US State Department, a Pakistani anti-terrorist court convicted Makki on one count of terrorism funding and sentenced him to jail in 2020.

In the past, China has made it difficult to name known terrorists, notably those from Pakistan. It had previously vetoed efforts to identify Maulana Masood Azhar, the leader of the Pakistan-based and UN-designated terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

Terrorist steals weapon from Security Personnel in Kashmir

Suspected terrorists stole a weapon from a Central Reserve Police Force officer in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama area on Sunday, according to news agency ANI.

“An incident of a security personnel’s weapon being snatched has been reported from the Rajpora region of Pulwama,” the Jammu and Kashmir Police stated.

The area has been blocked off, according to officials. Soon after the incident, the police, army, and CRPF initiated a combined search for the individual.

The firearm was eventually seized from the individual, who was later identified as Irfan Bashir Ganie.

“With the assistance of family, Police brought back Irfan Bashir Ganie, aged about 25 years from below Pulwama along with AK-47 rifle which he snatched from CRPF personnel today. Investigation going on. We appreciate the role of family,” said ADGP Kashmir.

Hizbul Mujahidin terrorist arrested in Bengaluru at mosque

A suspected Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist has been arrested from Bengaluru in a joint operation launched by Karnataka and Jammu & Kashmir Police. The accused has been identified as Talib Hussain was arrested by the police on June 5. As revealed by the police.

The accused Hussain was on the run from Jammu & Kashmir with his children and wife as the hunt for him was intensified by the armed forces, was hiding in Bengaluru. Hussain had taken shelter at a local mosque in Srirampur and was delivering sermons in Friday prayers. He was working as a laborer in the city. And none of his neighbors knew about him much after he moved in.

In this context Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai had confirmed that Talib Hussain was indeed arrested by the police.

When Mr Bommai was asked whether Hussain was a terrorist or not he did not provide a definitive answer as he said “Generally police keep an eye on people like them. We will provide whatever assistance is required to the Jammu and Kashmir police. In the past too, such arrests had taken place in Sirsi and Bhatkal.”

“The Jammu and Kashmir police have taken this very seriously”. Bommai further explained.

2 Al-Qaeda Operatives in custody, planned explosions in UP

Prashant Kumar, the Additional Director General of Police said that the two residents of Lucknow, Minhaz Ahmed and Maseeruddin, were planning to unleash terror activities before the Independence day.

The two operatives of Al Qaeda linked Ansar Ghazwatul Hind were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police. It had been said by the ATS that the two arrested men, Minhaz Ahmed and Maseeruddin, had planned explosions, including the use of human bombs at several places in the state.

The Police had mentioned that Ahmed was a resident of Lucknow’s Dubagga Area, and Maseeruddin lived in Madiyaon area of Lucknow. Prashant Kumar said that a huge amount of explosives were seized from the houses of the two men.

Prashant Kumar further added that Ahmed and Maseeruddin were planning to unleash terror activities before August 15 in various cities of the state, including Lucknow. The members of this module were not only from Lucknow but were also from Kanpur.

The ADGP Prashant Kumar also said that the two accused were working under the instructions of Umar Halmandi, the head of the Uttar Pradesh module of Al-Qaeda.

Raids were conducted at different places by the ATS to catch the associates of the two terrorists who had escaped before Ahmed and Maseeruddin were arrested.

The accused Al-Qaeda operatives would be produced before the court and would be taken into a police custody afterwards.

The ATS recovered two semi-prepared IED- based pressure cooker bombs, explosive materials and pistol from the house of Ahmed and was now sealed under custody.

The police has intensified the checking at Uttar Pradesh, including the checking at airports, highways and bus stations.

Terrorists behind explosion in Darbhanga Station appeared in court on Friday

On June 17 a chemical explosion occurred at the Darbhanga Station which was investigated by the NIA team on June 26, and based on the investigation, two terrorists, Imran Malik and Nasir Khan were arrested in Hyderabad on June 30.

The two terrorists appeared in the NIA court on Friday, and with an interrogation with the ATS, it has been alleged that the two terrorists were in touch with Pakistan and Lashkar-e-Taiba. In the NIA reports, the terrorists planned to explode the train and cause huge fatality, there was a glass bottle kept inside the parcel which was kept inside of the train by the two brothers, the blast occurred when the parcel were being taken off the train and the explosion occurred on the platform instead of inside the train, which led to the investigation by NIA.

It had been said that Imran Malik AKA Imran Khan and his brother Mohammad Nasir Khan had planned to carry out terrorist activities across the country by terrorists from Lakshkar-e-Taiba.

Imran and Nasir had packed the explosives in a cloth parcel, the package had been sent to Datbhanga from Secunderabad on the Darbhanga Express, the motive was to cause massive loss of life and property by setting the bandwagon on fire.

After the arrest of the two terrorists, they sought help from the UP Police and based on the information provided by the NIA, police arrested Haji Salim and Kafil Ahmed who were residents if Kairana and turned them over to the NIA in the case of package explosion at Darbhanga.

Nasir Khan was arrested in 2012 in Hyderabad and was trained with Lakshar Terrorists when he traveled to Pakistan to manufacture IED’s from chemicals. Whereas Imran was in contact with Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Delhi Police arrests 5 suspected terrorists from Kashmir and Punjab

The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Monday arrested five suspected terrorists from the Shakarpur area after an encounter. According to the sources, out of the five arrested, two are from Punjab and the rest are residents of Kashmir.

The Delhi Police said that following the encounter, arms and ammunition were recovered and said banned drugs were also seized from the possession of the accused. The five were allegedly linked to Khalistan

They have been identified as Shabbir Ahmed, Ayub Pathan and Riyaz rather (all from Kashmir). The remaining two are Gurjeet Singh and Sukhdeep Singh (both from Punjab)

“The group was backed by ISI for narco-terrorism. The name of the terror organisation is yet to be confirmed,” Delhi Police sources told India Today.

“We have apprehended five persons after an exchange of fire. Weapons and other incriminating material have also been recovered from their possession,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said. Some of them are suspected to have links with terror groups but this is being verified, he said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Delhi Police sources claimed that the arrested men were involved in the murder of Shaurya Chakra awardee Balwinder Singh Bhikhiwind.

Two motorcycle-borne assailants had shot dead Balwinder Singh Bhikhiwind at his residence in Bhikhiwind in Punjab’s Tarn Taran in October. The arrests come weeks after police nabbed two suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists from Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan.
The two suspected Jaish terrorists were identified as residents of Jammu and Kashmir Abdul Latif Mir and Mohd Ashraf Khatana.

26/11 attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed gets 10-year jail term in 2 terror cases

Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, has been sentenced to 10 years by an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan in two terror cases.

He was also sentenced to 11 years in jail by an anti-terrorism court in February this year in two terror financing cases. Hafiz Saeed and his two aides – Zafar Iqbal and Yahya Mujahid – have been sentenced to 10-and-a-half years each, while his brother-in-law Abdul Rehman Makki has been sentenced to six-month imprisonment.

“The anti-terrorism court of Lahore on Thursday sentenced four leaders of Jamat-ud-Dawa, including its chief Hafiz Saeed, in two more cases,” PTI quoted the court official.

A total of 41 cases have been registered by the CTD against the JuD leaders, out of which 24 have been decided while the rest are pending in the ATC courts. Four cases have been decided against Saeed so far.

Hafiz Saeed is wanted in India for planning the attack in Mumbai in 2008 when 10 terrorists killed 166 people and injured hundreds.

Hafiz Saeed was arrested in Pakistan in July last year in connection with terror-financing cases after international pressure was built upon Pakistan to come clean. He is being kept at Lahore’s high-security Kot Lakhpat jail.

He is also known as a “global terrorist” both by the United Nations and the US, which put a $10 million bounty on his head. He was listed under the UN Security Council Resolution 1267 in December 2008.
