Madras High Court have noticed in Tuesday that the Tamil Nadu Government cannot constitute a committee for going Into the impact of the NEET aspirants wanting to do MBBS from the socially Backward classes on India without leave from the Supreme Court.

The bench of the Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Sethikumar Ramamoorthy said that there could be a little room for the state for setting up any commitee for the purpose of ascertaining whether the NEET-based admision processes has been prejudicially affecting the socially backward students on India.

The court had made this observation by studying the basis of the submissions which were made by the petitioner that any recommendations made by the committee cannot be implemented in the view of of the order passed by the the supreme Court on the national eligibility entrance test (NEET). After this statement the court gave Tamil Nadu Government which time to respond to this plea.

The PIL moved by BJP state secretary K Nagarajan seeking to quash the order which was issued by Tamil Nadu Government. When the plea came up for hearing, the advocate R Shunmugasundaram argued that the constitution for the committee was a policy decision for the state backed by the election manifesto by the ruling party.

Before adjourning the session the bench said that maybe if this is contrary to the Supreme court order, then this plea cannot be permitted.

Election Commission bans ‘victory procession’ on May 2 due to outbreak of COVID-19

On Tuesday, April 27, Election Commission released circular regarding ban on victory procession in the General Assembly elections of West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.

Commission also laid down the broad guidelines to conduct General Election/ Bye Election during COVID-19 on 21st August 2020 after receiving views/ suggestions of National/ State Political Parties. The Commission has further considered the views/ suggestions received from various Chief Electoral Officers of States/ UTs on election campaign and public meetings.

Election Commission has also fixed counting of votes for General Election to Legislative Assemblies of West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry along with by-polls in various states on May 2, 2021.

In view of the surge in COVID-19 cases throughout in the country, the commission has decided to make more stringent provision to be followed during the process of counting, in addition to exiting Broad Guidelines dated 21st August, 2020, EC has directed that there should be “no victory procession” after the counting on May 2, 2021 shall be permissible.

Not more than two persons shall be allowed to accompany the winning candidate to receive the certificate of election from the Returning Officer concerned.

Yesterday, Madras High Court also slammed Election Commission for not stopping political parties from conducting election rallies and said that the Election Commission is responsible for the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the last 24 hours, India reported 3,23,144 new COVID-19 cases and 2,51,827 patients got discharge, while 2,771 people died of this deadly virus. Total active cases in India is now around 28.82 lakhs. The total death toll in India reached to 1,97,894.

While addressing the masses in Kanyakumari, TamiI Nadu on Friday, April 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lashed out on the opposition and blamed them of promoting nepotism in politics. PM Modi also said that the current mood of the nation is clearly against politics of nepotism and entitlement.

“While our focus is development, the opposition has reduced itself to a dynasty club. All they want is to secure the position of their own children and grandchildren. They are not bothered about your sons and daughter,” PM Modi said in Kanyakumari.

PM Modi in his rally also targeted DMK leaders and said that they are feeling ‘suffocated’ now. Modi said, “In Tamil Nadu, the situation is such that senior DMK leaders who worked soldier to soldier with Kalaignar are feeling suffocated due to the newly minted crown prince of the party. Politics doesn’t work this way,” as quoted by news agency ANI.

Further, alleging the Congress Party, PM added, “Congress has imposed Article 356 several times. Both DMK and AIADMK governments have been dismissed by the Congress. Having Congress in any coalition is having a high-handed ally who does not understand local sensibilities”.

PM Modi also raised the issue of fisherman and said that providing safety to fisherman is the first priority of NDA government. He said, “I assure the fishermen that their safety is NDA’s priority. Just a few days ago, we ensured the release of fishermen from Sri Lanka, this includes 40 fishermen and 4 boats from Tamil Nadu. Currently, no Indian fishermen in Srilankan custody”.

Well, the sixteenth legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu is to be held on Saturday, April 6, 2021. The two very dominating parties which have been leading in Tamil Nadu are AIADMK and DMK. The BJP is in alliance with the AIADMK while Congress is in alliance with DMK standing against each other. Also, the results are going to be declared on the May 2, 2021.

On Friday, April 2, premises of Sabareesan who is son-in-law of DMK president MK Stalin was being raided by Income Tax department. The search is still underway at his residence. Apart from Sabareesan’s residence, several other places connected to him are also being searched by the IT department officials, as quoted by ANI.

Income tax officials currently searching 4 places in Chennai including residences of MK Stalin’s daughter in Teynampet and Neelangarai. Two other locations also being searched. Searches at four places in Chennai owned by Sabareesan started around 8 am today, April 2.

This is the second time when DMK leaders have faced raids from Income Tax department ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections, which is scheduled to be held on April 6. Senior DMK leader and candidate EV Velu was also being raided on the basis of “credible inputs of cash movement” during the campaign.

Sabareesan is seen as a key strategist in MK Stalin’s core team. The searches come a day after MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin raised the question at a rally near Coimbatore of what he called an exponential rise in the assets of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah.

Election Polls will be held for 234 seats in Tamil Nadu with the Congress-DMK and BJP-AIADMK alliance being the major groups contesting against each other. The Election is scheduled to be held on April 6, and results of the Tamil Nadu election will be declared on May 2.

On Sunday, March 28, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed a public rally in Chennai, Tamil Nadu for the up-coming legislative assembly elections in the state.

Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in the rally and said that the only relationship possible in BJP is to touch the feet of BJP leaders and to bow down before Narendra Modi or Amit Shah.”

Rahul Gandhi said while addressing the rally, “I saw a picture of an elected representative touching the feet of Amit Shah. The only relationship possible in BJP is where you have to touch the feet of the leader of BJP, bow down before Narendra Modi or Amit Shah.”

Rahul Gandhi further added that It is unbearable for me to see the Tamil Nadu Chef Minister E Palaniswami bowing in front of Amit shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, “When I see the Prime Minister controlling Tamil Nadu CM, making him touch his feet silently, I’m not ready to accept it. Tamil Nadu CM doesn’t want to bow in front of Amit Shah but he is forced to because of the corruption,” as quoted by news agency ANI.

On Friday, March 26, BJP President JP Nadda held a roadshow in Chennai, in support of their candidate Vinoj P Selvam from Harbour constituency. During the roadshow, Nadda spoke to news agency ANI, “Certainly, BJP is making inroads in Tamil Nadu. The enthusiasm of the crowd speaks that the work done by Narendra Modi Ji in the last 6 years has been appreciated.”

The BJP chief also slammed DMK and said that DMK only runs for power and money. Nadda further added, “D stands for Dynasty, M stands for Money and K stands for Katta Panchayat, this is DMK,” as quoted by ANI.

Earlier today, BJP chief JP Nadda addressed a public rally in Tamil Nadu to sought some votes for BJP candidates in the upcoming legislative assembly elections, which are scheduled to be held on April 6, 2021 in a single phase. The results for the same will be released on May 2, 2021.

During the roadshow, AIADMK leader D Jayakumar was along with the BJP chief. Nadda also appreciated AIADMK by saying that the party has always worked for regional aspirations with a nationalist approach.
