AIADMK candidate promises to give ‘washing machine’ after winning elections

Politicians often promise various things to common public before election arrives. As Tamil Nadu is heading for legislative assembly elections, all the political parties and their candidates are trying their best to impress common people. Amid election campaign, an AIADMK candidate has come up with a complete unique election promise of giving washing machine after winning the elections.

On Monday, March 22, while campaigning, AIADMK candidate Thanga Kathiravan washed people’s clothes and promised to give washing machine after winning the elections.

In a video shared by the news agency ANI, the AIADMK candidate is seen sitting on ground and washing clothes. His supporters also clapped for him. Thanga Kathiravan is AIADMK’s candidate from Nagapattinam constituency of Tamil Nadu.

The legislative assembly elections in Tamil Nadu to elect 234 members will be held on April 6, in a single phase. This election is a direct fight between ruling alliance of BJP-AIADMK and Congress-DMK.

EC to declare States Assembly Election dates today, including West Bengal

The Election Commission of India will be announcing the schedule for Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry.

In a press conference which will be held at 04:30 PM (IST) today, the poll panel of the Election Commission will release the long-awaited dates for State and Union Territory Assembly elections.

In West Bengal, the number of polling booths has considerably increased from the 2016 State Assembly Elections from 78,903 to 1,01,790. West Bengal is likely to undergo elections during March-April period where it is being heavily speculated whether the elections will be held in seven to eight phases or just five phases compared to the 6-phase elections that had happened in 2016. This has been done in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Amidst the still-ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, these elections will all be held in respect of the maintenance of the respective health and safety protocols. The election officials will all be required to wear masks, face shields, and gloves and use sanitizers. Voters too will be screened and follow similar hygiene.

The EC has said that 6400 of these polling booths are sensitive and will require extra security measures taken into place.

Earlier today, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Smiriti Irani held a roadshow in West Bengal’s Panchpota area of the South 24 Parganas district ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections.

Rajinikanth won’t enter politics due to ill-health, says ‘Please forgive me’

Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth who was all set to announce the launch of his political party on 31st December, on Tuesday, announced that he will not be entering politics citing health reasons. “With extreme sadness, I say that I can’t enter politics. I alone know the pain I went through while announcing this decision,” he said in his statement.

This announcement by Rajinikanth comes after he was discharged from a hospital in Hyderabad two days ago. He had been hospitalised after suffering from high blood pressure. The actor underwent treatment for three days before he returned to his Chennai residency on Sunday. He was in Hyderabad shooting for Annaatthe before he was hospitalised.

In his statement posted to his Twitter account, Rajinikanth said that he takes the recent development over his health condition as a warning from God and therefore will not participate in the 2021 Tamil Nadu elections.

The statement read, “Without entering electoral politics, I will serve the people. This decision of mine will disappoint my fans and people but please forgive me.” He also mentioned that doctors advised him against venturing into politics in view of his kidney transplant in 2016 and the current Coronavirus pandemic.

Rajnikanth to fledge as a politician, launching party in January

Film Icon, Rajinikanth to launch a political party in January, just five months prior to the Tamil Nadu election. He has promised to lead a state with a ‘wonder and miracle’ through achieving ‘spiritual secular politics’ with no caste or religious barrier.

Rajnikanth took to Twitter to inform, “We will surely win the assembly polls and give honest, transparent, corruption-free, spiritual secular politics without caste, creed, or religion. A wonder and miracle will definitely happen.” He used hashtags like, “It’s now or never” and “We will change and we will change everything.”

He reported to an NDTV reporter, “I am ready to sacrifice even my life for the sake of Tamil people….It is now or never. If I win it will be the people’s victory, even if I lose it will be their defeat.”

By stating his plans, he has put years of speculation to rest. This decision was publicized three days after he met with senior bearers of his forum, the Rajni Makkal Mandram.

He informed reports outside his Pose Garden home, “District office bearers expressed their opinions. They have said they will agree to whatever decision I make. I will announce my decision as soon as possible.”
