Akshay Kumar & Rakul Preet team up for a new project!

Reportedly, after the theatrical release of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bell Bottom’, the actor will be working with Bell Bottom director Ranjit Tewari for yet another project, along with Vashu Bhagnani.

The movie is allegedly going to be a remake of the 2018 Tamil psychological crime thriller ‘Ratsasan’, as per Peeping Moon, It will be tweaked to suit North Indian audience sensibilities.

The portal further reported that the film will feature Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh has been roped in to play the lead role in the film. The film is currently in pre-production and will commence shooting from August in London for about one month, in a start to finish schedule.

The synopsis of the original film reads, “Arun gives up on his dream of becoming a filmmaker and takes up the job of a police officer after his father’s death. He then attempts to track down a psychotic killer who targets schoolgirls.”

On the work front, Akshay has been busy shooting all year long as he will feature in a couple of other movies too namely, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, and Oh My God 2.

As for Rakul Preet, the fitness enthusiast will be next seen in Ajay Devgn’s Mayday as well as Thank God and Doctor G with Ayushmann Khurrana.

The Tamil version of Kangana’s ‘Thalaivi’ gets ‘U’ certificate

The Tamil version of Kangana Ranaut’s, Thalaivi has been awarded the U certificate without cuts. The filmmakers will now apply for the certificate in their Hindi and Telugu versions too.

Thalaivi is based on the life of actor-politician, Jayalalitha. Kangana will be playing the lead role as the actor-politician. The makers had initially titled the film ‘Jaya’, however, later it was changed to ‘Thalaivi’.

When asked about the release date of the film, a source close to the production house said, “We plan to release the film in August this year and only in cinema halls.”

In an interview, Kangana seemed to be pleased with her work in the movie and said, “The kind of love and encouragement I have experienced here, I don’t want to leave, I am here now. I hope to do many more films here.” She was referring to the South Indian Film Industry and how they had been so welcoming, supportive and encouraged the idea of inclusivity.

The filmmakers had big plans to release the film in cinema halls across Chennai and Mumbai, however, the ravaging second-wave of the Covid pandemic has disrupted their release plans.

The initial release day was to be April 23, 2021, which has now been pushed to a later date.

Dhanush’s Karnan Gets An OTT Release Date

Karnan is one of the few theatrical successes of 2021 in the Tamil film industry. There were a lot of expectations on this film as it was made in the collaboration of versatile actor Dhanush and talented filmmaker Mari Selvaraj. The movie lived up to the expectations and became a hit at the box office.

Now, Karnan is all set to enter the OTT space as well. It will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on May 14. People who have missed watching it in theatres can catch it on Prime from next Friday. Even other state audiences are eagerly waiting for the release of this film as it received stunning reviews from both critics as well as viewers.

Karnan features Rajisha Vijayan and Lal in the other prominent roles. The film delves upon the serious issues of caste discrimination. Kalaipuli S Thanu has bankrolled the project under V Creations. Meanwhile, it is being heard that Bellamkonda Sreenivas will be remaking this film into Telugu very soon.

Tamil Filmmaker Thamira passes away due to COVID-19

Tamil filmmaker Thamira died on Monday in a private hospital in Chennai as a result of COVID-19 complications. The news has shocked the Tamil film industry, which is still reeling from the untimely death of comedy icon Vivek.

Thamira worked with legendary filmmakers such as K Balachander and Bharathiraja before striking out on his own. Rettaisuzhi, his first film as a director, starred some of Tamil cinema’s biggest names. Thamira’s mentors Balachander and Bharathiraja played crucial roles in the film, which was directed by Shankar. The film, which was released in 2010, received negative reviews from the filmmakers and bombed at the box office.

Thamira’s second film was dubbed Aan Devathai, which translates to “Male Angel” in Tamil. The lead actors in the 2018 film were Samuthirakani, Ramya Pandian, Kavin, and Monica. It received negative reviews from critics once again and struggled to make an impact at the box office.

Thamira has also directed the web series “My Perfect Husband”. The film, which stars veteran actors Sathyaraj and Seetha in lead roles, is expected to premiere on Disney Plus and Hotstar.
