Aether Industries faces Rs 4.26 crore demand notice from CGST & Central Excise

Aether Industries has received a Demand and Show Cause Notice from the Additional Commissioner (AE), CGST & Central Excise Commissionerate, Surat, amounting to ₹4,26,16,311. The notice pertains to the disallowance of tax credit availed over various expenses related to the company’s Initial Public Offer (IPO) during the financial years 2020-21 and 2021-22.

The company disclosed that the demand notice was received on April 23, 2026. Despite the significant financial demand, Aether Industries has stated that this will not have any material implication on its operations. The company plans to submit an appropriate response to the issuing authority.

Aether Industries reports fire at Surat warehouse with no casualties

SEBI grants final exit to ICEX as recognized stock exchange after compliance failures

On Tuesday, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) officially approved the exit of the Indian Commodity Exchange (ICEX) as a recognized stock exchange. ICEX, based in Surat, Gujarat, was originally granted recognition under the Forward Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1952, and later transitioned to the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, of 1956, following the merger of the Forward Markets Commission (FMC) with SEBI.

However, ICEX faced challenges in meeting net worth requirements and other regulatory conditions, leading SEBI to withdraw its recognition in May 2022. Despite an appeal and an order from the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) allowing ICEX to continue operations with certain conditions, including raising funds and meeting SEBI’s compliance requirements, the exchange was unable to meet these conditions. Consequently, ICEX’s management opted for a voluntary surrender of its recognition.

In May 2023, a resolution passed by ICEX’s shareholders formally initiated the exit process. As per SEBI’s guidelines, ICEX complied with several mandatory requirements, including transferring its Investor Protection Fund to SEBI’s Investor Protection and Education Fund and addressing any outstanding dues. The exchange also contributed to the SEBI fund for future liabilities and committed to resolving pending investor complaints and arbitration cases.

In July 2024, an independent asset valuation was completed, confirming that all known liabilities had been addressed. ICEX has since settled its statutory dues and ensured no future liabilities remain undisclosed. As part of the exit process, ICEX was required to change its name, and if it continues to operate as a corporate entity, it must refrain from using the term ‘exchange’ or any variant in its name to avoid any association with its past recognition as a stock exchange.

With all conditions now satisfied, SEBI has granted ICEX its final exit from the commodities derivatives market. The decision will take effect upon publication in the official gazette, officially marking ICEX’s exit from the space.

Surat Diamond Bourse overtakes Pentagon as world’s largest office building

Surat, the lesser-known gem capital of the world, has set a new milestone in the global business landscape with the opening of the Surat Diamond Bourse, which now holds the title of the world’s largest office building. Surat, located in Gujarat, India, accounts for approximately 90% of the world’s diamond cutting, making it a significant hub for the diamond industry.

The impressive 15-story complex, sprawled across 35 acres of land, serves as a “one-stop destination” for over 65,000 diamond professionals, including cutters, polishers, and traders. The building, comprising nine rectangular structures interconnected by a central “spine,” boasts a remarkable floor space of more than 7.1 million square feet, surpassing the renowned Pentagon.

The project, initiated four years ago, is set to welcome its first occupants in November, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to officially inaugurate the facility. The Surat Diamond Bourse is designed to meet the needs of diamond businesses and prevent thousands of individuals from frequently traveling to Mumbai for business purposes.

Plans for a major redevelopment named “Dream City” envision a “smart” city covering almost 700 hectares of south Surat. Dhanjibhai Dholakia’s company purchases a ₹185 crore bungalow at Worli Seaface

According to Moneycontrol, documents released by Zapkey.com show that Surat-based diamond merchant Ghanshyambhai Dhanjibhai Dholakia’s company has purchased a bungalow worth ₹185 crore at Worli Seaface in the city of Mumbai.

On July 30 i.e. Friday, the property deal was registered, whose seller is Essar Group-owned Arkay Holding Ltd. Hari Krishna Exports Pvt. Ltd. (HK) has bought the 19,886 sq ft property called Panhar Bungalow which comprises of a basement, ground floor along with six other floors.

After reviewing a copy of the documents, Moneycontrol reported that two transactions had been registered for ₹185 crore with the first one being an assignment of lease of land measuring 1349 square metre for ₹47 crore. For the loan of the land, ₹36.5 crore has been paid directly to Indiabulls Housing Finance. A payment of stamp duty at the rate of five per cent i.e. ₹2.57 crore has been made.

The second registered document is the conveyance of residential building for ₹138 crore. A 6 per cent stamp duty i.e. around ₹8.3 crore has been paid. A cess of one per cent was remitted, which is ₹1.83 crore, resulting in the payment of ₹6.91 crore for balance stamp duty.

On 26th August 2020, the government of Maharashtra had reduced stamp duty on housing units temporarily from 5 per cent to 2 per cent until the end of the year to strengthen the real estate market devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

SpiceJet to introduce 16 new flights from August

India’s second-largest airline, SpiceJet, is set to launch 16 new flights from the month of August.

The domestic passenger carrier has added Bhavnagar (Gujarat) to its list of connected cities. From August 20, Bhavnagar will be connected to Mumbai, Delhi, and Surat.

The Chief Commercial Officer (COO) of SpiceJet, Shilpa Bhatia stated, “Strengthening regional connectivity between metros and underserved cities is at the heart of SpiceJet’s mission and vision and we are delighted to add the beautiful city of Bhavnagar to our fast expanding domestic network.”

She referred to Bhavnagar as one of the key cities for trade and commerce with many large and small-scale industries alongside having the world’s largest ship breaking yard and multiple holy sites to visit. “Bhavnagar comes with great potential for both business and leisure travel alike”, the COO added.

Furthermore, it has introduced ten more flights that will be connecting Gwalior with Jaipur, Kishangarh i.e. Ajmer with Mumbai, Belagavi with Delhi, and Vishakhapatnam with Jammu along with an additional frequency to the sector of Delhi-Jammu.

Bhatia continued saying the airline was well aligned and fully committed to aid the recovery of air travel and realize the country’s dream of having a strong, stable, and progressive aviation market by constantly introducing new routes and destinations.

SpiceJet is the first airline to operate non-stop flights between Bhavnagar-Delhi, Bhavnagar-Surat, Gwalior-Jaipur, and Kishangarh-Mumbai.

India’s Swachh Survekshan – an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation – will soon release the list of cleanest cities. Like every year, several cities will be contesting for the crown of the cleanest city in India, and while the preparations are underway, here’s how last year’s top 5 cities are gearing up to win/hold their title in 2021.

1. Indore, Madhya Pradesh

Back in 2020, Indore was ranked India’s cleanest city for the fourth consecutive year by Swachh Survekshan. Now, the city intends to win the title for the fifth consecutive year by installing colorful lights on the roads, decorating walls with unique paintings, most of them are based on the swachh and swasth messages.

The crown holding city has gone a step ahead and set up stalls at Palasia intersection where car dustbins, eco-friendly straws, cloth bags, containers for making compost are given on rent, gardens across Indore have been beautified and an ‘eco mart’ where recycled plastic items are kept.

2. Surat, Gujarat

Gujarat’s cleanest city, Surat, has completely transformed itself from a garbage-strewn mess to becoming the 2nd cleanest city in India. It has adopted the message of recycling, and even introduced bottle recycling machines wherein one can dispose of bottles and enjoy rewards.

3. Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra

Navi Mumbai is ranked 3rd cleanest city in India according to the Swachh Survekshan 2020. It bagged the 7th position in 2019’s rankings, Navi Mumbai has improved its position, and this year, it plans to win by tweaking its plan. The municipal corporation of Navi Mumbai has reportedly introduced Swachh Survekshan Mascots in commercial and public areas in a bid to spread the word among citizens about the survey thereby making sure the city remains clean and adopts swachh habits.

4. Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur is one of the oldest cities and despite its ancient foothold the city was ranked as the cleanest city in India as per Swachh Survekshan 2020. While there is no report as to how the city is planning to compete this year, it is also worth noting that Ambikapur has no dumping yards and is able to generate good income by recycling the waste. The city has put in sincere efforts in segregating at least 90% of the waste generated on a daily basis.

5. Mysore, Karnataka

Mysore ranks 5th in the list of India’s cleanest cities in 2020 and it has held on top for 2 consecutive years, and it continues to stay clean and generate minimum waste. The zero-waste plant workers ensure to segregate all the household waste into different categories which is why the city has consistently stayed a recurring name in the list of cleanest cities in India.

According to the survey conducted by Swachh Survekshan winners, Mysuru won the title of the cleanest city in 2016 and whereas in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 Indore was declared India’s Cleanest City.

This year, five new performance categories have been introduced – Platinum (Divya), Gold (Anupam), Silver (Ujjwal), Bronze (Udit), and Copper (Aarohi) and these are being called ‘Prerak Dauur Samman’.

Massive fire breaks out at ONGC’S Surat plant after 3 blasts, no casualties reported

A massive fire broke out at Oil and Natural Gas Commissions plant in Gujrat’s Surat at around 3:00am on Septermber 24, 2020 after explosions were heard at the site. Surat’s collector, Dr. Dhaval Patel in a statement to the ANI confirmed the same and assured that the Firefighting team was present at the spot and zero casualties had been reported so far.

He quoted “Around 3 am, three consecutive blasts too place at ONGC Hazira plant which led to the fire. Fire fighters present at the spot. No casualties reported so far. The activity of depressurizing the pressurised gas system is underway by the expert team , Patel added.

ONGC released an official tweet confirming that the fire had been brought under control. ” A fire was observed in the Hazira Gas processing plant in the morning today.Fire has been brought under control. There is no casualty or injury to any person” They confirmed in a tweet.

In a separate statement, ONGC added the fire has been extinguished completely and that efforts are being made to resume normal operations of the same. ONGC has a fire system of it own but fire tenders from Surat and the adjoining area have also been dispatched to aid in the relief process.

Sky-high smokes could be seen fuming from a distance and the shocks of the blast were so severe , they felt like tremors of earthquake.

The gas is transported from Mumbai offshore via a plant to the Surat’s plant wherethe refining process takes place. Then, through the HVJ(Hazira Vijaypur, Jagdishpur), it is transported to different industries as well as six states of the country for domestic purposes.

Fire at Hazira Plant has been completely extinguished. Efforts are being made to resume normal operations at the earliest.
