VCK extends unconditional support to Tamil Nadu government, warns against ‘Governor’s Rule attempt’

Vanni Arasu on Wednesday said secular parties, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), have extended unconditional support to the Tamil Nadu government in order to safeguard state rights and prevent what he described as indirect attempts by the Bharatiya Janata Party to impose Governor’s Rule in the state.

Speaking during discussions in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, the VCK MLA expressed confidence that the government would successfully complete its full five-year term. He stressed that secular parties stood united in support of the administration at a politically sensitive time in the state.

Vanni Arasu also urged the government to adopt a stronger position on issues related to state autonomy, fishermen’s welfare and constituency delimitation. He said the state must continue defending its rights in matters involving federal structure and representation.

The MLA further called for the implementation of a special law against honour killings, an issue that has periodically sparked political and social debate in Tamil Nadu. Rights groups and social activists in the state have long demanded stricter legal provisions to address caste-based violence and crimes committed in the name of family honour.

During his speech, Vanni Arasu also praised several welfare initiatives introduced by the government and urged that they continue over the next five years. These included the state’s breakfast scheme for schoolchildren, the Tamil Pudhalvan scheme and the provision of 200 units of free electricity for eligible households.

The breakfast scheme, launched to improve nutrition among government school students, has become one of the flagship welfare programmes of the Tamil Nadu administration. Similarly, the Tamil Pudhalvan scheme was introduced as part of the government’s educational and youth welfare initiatives aimed at supporting students from economically weaker backgrounds.

The Assembly remarks come amid intense political debates in Tamil Nadu over federal rights, the role of governors, language policy and constituency delimitation. Regional parties in the state have repeatedly accused the Centre of undermining state autonomy, while opposition parties continue to attack the government over governance and political management issues.

The ongoing Assembly session has witnessed heated exchanges between treasury and opposition benches on a range of governance, welfare and constitutional matters ahead of key political developments in the state.
