Pakistan PM Khan angry over Arnab Goswami’s knowledge about Balakot airstrike

Soon after the purported messages between Republic TV CEO, aka Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami and Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) Ex-CEO Partho Dasgupta were leaked on Twitter, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan angrily reacted over reports about Goswami having the knowledge about Balakot surgical strike in 2019.

The Pakistan PM took to Twitter on Monday to respond to reports by the Indian media. The purported texts three days before the airstrike indicate Goswami had prior knowledge of the attack and it was designed to drum up support for Modi in his re-election bid in pending parliamentary elections. Khan had alleged about the same in a speech at the U.N. in 2019.

According to the WhatsApp transcript, Goswami texted Dasgupta three days before the February 26, 2019 airstrike, saying “something big will happen and on Pakistan, the government is confident of striking in a way that people will be elated.”

Dasgupta responded by saying that “the attack on Pakistan would give Modi a sweeping majority” in the upcoming general elections.

The transcripts of the purported texts were filed by the Mumbai Police in relation to the TRP scam case. However, the text exchange raised some serious questions against the ruling party concerning national security by the Opposition

February 2019, a suicide bombing in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir killed more than 40 Indian soldiers. India blamed Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed, which claimed responsibility. Although Pakistan detained Jaish-e-Mohammed’s leaders,

Modi’s government launched a nighttime airstrike on the Pakistani town of Balakot, saying it hit a militant camp. Pakistan said Indian warplanes dropped bombs in a forested area, causing no casualties. Pakistan responded by shooting down an Indian warplane in Kashmir and capturing its pilot, who was later released to ease tensions between the neighbouring countries.

Executive Editor Arnab Goswami and Partho Dasgupta, Ex-CEO of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) on Twitter on Friday. The Ex BARC CEO is also accused in the TRP scam case along with the Republic Executive Editor.

The TRP scam came in light in the month of October last year when a complaint was registered against certain TV channels, which includes Republic TV, alleging about rigging their Television Rating Points (TRP).

BARC measures viewership of the TV channels which shows the percentage of people viewing the programme. This helps advertisers favour a particular channel as a higher TRP suggests a bigger audience.

The Mumbai Police alleges that the former BARC CEO misused his position to conspire with Arnab Goswami to manipulate the TRP ratings and bring Republic TV to the number 1 position by accepting a hefty sum of money since 2017.

The Mumbai Police crime branch is probing the role of Republic TV, Fakt Marathi, Box Cinema, News Nation, Mahamovies and Wow music channel for inflating viewership figures. The channels are accused of paying money to households where barometers were installed for keeping the channels on.

Senior BARC officials involved in manipulating ratings for REPUBLIC TV asked to resign or face legal actions

On Friday (25th December), the police said that they have found Whatsapp chats and emails between the BARC employees discussing how to push Times Now to No.2 position and make Republic TV No. 1 in terms of ratings.

While addressing the media, Joint CP Milind Bharambe said that the three methods of manipulation were “outlier, meta-rules and channel audience control.” He added, “Data was selectively analysed to show particular TRP ratings of a channel.” According to this, this was done to facilitate and bring Republic TV to the top.

The manipulations were carried out by two senior BARC officials during the period of 2016-2019. These officials who were the CEO and COO were asked to resign or face action by BARC. Both the officials quit and are currently in police custody. The police also stated that BARC had knowledge about the same but didn’t inform them. They claim that they got to know about the audit report through their sources. The messages read “Please find below numbers on English news. As required, Times Now’s numbers were changed while Republic TV was kept the same.”

Bharambe also stated that the forensic report is a strong piece of evidence and the police will be adding it in the supplementary charge sheet. The police also stated that their investigations revealed that the arrested people connived to manipulate the sampling metering services by inducing barometer users by paying them periodically to watch particular channels. The ex-CEO of BARC was arrested on Thursday and was the 15th person to be arrested in the case.

SC grants interim bail to Arnab Goswami

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court granted the release of Arnab Goswami and other co-accused on interim bail in an abetment to suicide case. The high court said there was an error in rejecting the application for grant of interim bail of Goswami, and the high court was not doing enough in matters where personal liberty is denied. If a constitutional court remains blind then “we are traveling on the path of destruction undeniably.”

Justice D Y Chandrachud said, “SC is unhappy that HCs, which are constitutional courts, are not doing enough in matters where personal liberty is denied. If this court were not to interfere today, we are traveling on a path of destruction of personal liberty undeniably….Is this is what out state governments will do to those who have to be nailed….? Don’t watch the channel if you don’t like….Left to myself, I will not watch….If state govt’s target individual in this manner, let’s send out a message that SC is there.”

It was a two-bench hearing. It was chaired by Justice Chandrachud and Indira Banerjee. They made the observations while hearing Goswami’s plea challenging the Bombay HC order.

Arnab Goswami arrested by Mumbai Police, news anchor reveals he was assaulted and his son beaten up

After numerous FIRs against Republic TV journalist and Chief Editor, Arnab Goswami, being filed, he has been finally arrested by the Mumbai Police. On Wednesday morning, i.e. 4th November, the Raigad unit of Mumbai Police raided the Worli residence of the owner of Republic TV and has reportedly arrested Arnab Goswami in an Abetment to Suicide case of a 53-year old interior designer, Anvay Naik and his mother, Kumud Naik.

A senior Police officer, Sachin Vaze, reported that Goswami has been arrested in relation to abetment to suicide case of 2018, which has been reopened now. It was also confirmed by another police officer that Arnab Goswami has been taken to Alibaug. It was also reported that the family members of the Editor protested against the arrest when a team of officers went ahead to arrest him. During the raid, a team of Crime branch, as well as CID, was also present at the spot.

The channel, in the defence of its Chief Editor, called out the arrest to be “a move for parading the editor of a top Indian news channel like a criminal, pulled by the hair, threatened, not allowed to drink water.” However, Arnab was able to speak to the media personnel from the vehicle he was kept in and he said that he was assaulted and his son was beaten by the police. Whilst all this was happening, Goswami’s colleagues made direct “emotional” appeal to the Supreme Court for justice.

Bollywood launched a battle against Republic TV and Times Now. Here’s why!

On Monday, i.e. 12th October, Bollywood’s most powerful production houses as well as actors have filed a case against Republic TV and Times Now in the Delhi High Court seeking “redress against the irresponsible, derogatory and defamatory reporting”. Production Houses such as Yash Raj Films, Reliance Big Entertainment, Farhan Akhtar–Ritesh Sidhwani‘s Excel Entertainment along with actors namely Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma has joined this battle against the defamatory statements and words used by the accused TV news channels during the coverage of Sushant Singh Rajput case as well as the drug probe of Bollywood.

The case has also been signed by Rohit Shetty, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Zoya Akhtar and Luv Ranjan followed by the Producers Guild of India and the Screenwriters Association joining hands with them. According to the statement with which the case was filed, it said, “The television channels have been using “highly derogatory words and expressions for Bollywood such as ‘dirt’, ‘filth’, ‘scum’, ‘druggies’ and expressions such as ‘it is Bollywood where the dirt needs to be cleaned’, ‘all the perfumes of Arabia cannot take away the stench and the stink of this filth and scum of the underbelly of Bollywood’, ‘This is the dirtiest industry in the country’, and ‘cocaine and LSD drenched Bollywood’. The accused TV news channels are massively pointed out as pro-government channels by not just the general public, but bigger figures in the run. The channels were found to be alleging the Hindi Film Industry with baseless allegations and demoralising statements ever since the Sushant Singh Rajput case was started being investigated by CBI on 4th June.

The news channels went on to breakdown the Bollywood after Rhea Chakraborty was being called out to be the main accused behind the death of the late actor and they turned it into a ‘witch hunt’. However, Republic TV and Times Now just didn’t stop there. They went out to call the whole Bollywood as “druggies”, “filth” and “dirt”, especially after NCB summoned Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Rakul Preet Singh and Shraddha Kapoor for allegedly being part of the drug probe which was revealed during the investigation by CBI.

Recently, Bollywood‘s leading production houses such as Yash Raj Films, Reliance Big Entertainment, Farhan Akhtar–Ritesh Sidhwani‘s Excel Entertainment and such 34 other production houses have filed a case against TV news channels such as the Republic TV and Times Now for reportedly using defamatory and derogatory terms such as ‘druggies’, ‘filth’ and ‘scum’ to address the industry due to the drug probe investigation being carried out by Narcotics Control Bureau in Bollywood.

Kangana Ranaut took to her Twitter handle to react to this. This was followed by the ‘Krrish 3’ actress which read, “Big heros not only objectify women but also exploit young girls, they don’t let young men like Sushant Singh Rajput come up, at the age of 50 they want to play school kids, they never stand up for anyone even if people are being wronged before their eyes #BollywoodStrikesBack” which was further followed by another tweet which said, “Their is an unwritten law in the film industry ‘you hide my dirty secrets I will hide yours’ the only basis of their loyalty to each other. Since I am born I am seeing only these handful of men from the film families run the industry. When will this change? #BollywoodStrikesBack”

A sudden shift of trends on Twitter and a very abrupt hashtag, #ChaiBiscuit starts trending. Who are these ‘chai biscuit wale patrakar’ and why NDTV and ABP journalists are being called goons? Recently, a video from Mumbai has gone viral which, at first look, seems to be a street fight. No, they were not fighting over cutting-chai and biscuit, if you are thinking so.

The incident happened on Thursday, when designer Simone Khambatta was summoned at the South Mumbai office of NCB and as usual journalists in large numbers gathered to cover it. Pradeep Bhandari, a TV journalist associated with the Republic TV, allegedly called a local journalists ‘chai biscuit wale patrakar’. The video was shared on September 24th by Bhandari on his Twitter account and is going viral ever since. While many individuals sympathized with Bhandari, most of the journalists criticized his derogatory words.

Sushant’s sister Shweta Singh shares notes of late actor; says he “was an eternal positivist!”

Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s diary was accessed by Republic TV reflected the actor’s ambitious plans and future projects. According to the diary, Sushant had plans of opening a production house, setting up an IT start up, creating a gaming code and much more.

Sushant’s sister, Shweta Singh Kirti took to her Instagram handle to share all the notes from her brother’s diary. She captioned the post by writing, Shweta Singh Kirti, Sushant’s sister, took to her Instagram handle to share the notes from his diary and wrote, “Somebody who had solid plans. Sushant’s notes in his diary reflected his plans regarding the companies and projects he was working on, including IP protection, creating software, and set up an IT company along with his college friend. Also, he had plans for setting up a production house.

According to Republic TV, who got an access to the late actor’s diary noted, revealed that one can see Sushant’s notes involving well-designed flow charts with words like ‘reputation management’, ‘brand and building, ‘asset creation.’

In regards to the cinemas, he has noted terms like ‘education/environment cinema,’ ‘upgrades for cinema’. From his diary it seemed he also intended to head to the West as ‘association with one of the top agencies of’ Hollywood’ and ‘connections with the top players’ also have been noted. There were also techniques involving his work in films, with notes about ‘Acting for the camera’, ‘preparation reading and rereading of the script’.

The demise of ‘Dil Bechara’ actor created a lot of debates and also exposed the darker side of the Bollywood Industry. As various news channels has been holding on debates regarding Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise, Arnab Goswami the Editor in Chief of Republic TV is seen questioning a lot of people who were linked with the late actor.

Now, Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma took on Arnab Goswami and announced on his Twitter handle that he will be making a film on the news anchor. He expressed his anger towards Arnab in a series of tweets and explained he is going to make a movie on him. Varma tweeted, “Was shocked to see #ArnabGoswami talking about Bollywood in such a horrible way ..He calls it the dirtiest industry ever with criminal connections ,it’s full of Rapists, gangsters, sexual exploiters and what not?It beats me in what dumb way #ArnabGoswami can combine the deaths of Divya Bharthi,Jiah khan, Sridevi and Sushant into one case and claim that the murderer is Bollywood..incidentally the 4 deaths happened over a span of nearly 25 years.”

He further added, “And in all the four cases of Divya,Jiah,Sridevi and Sushant there were completely different people and circumstances ..But in Arnab’s mind they are all one and had been killed by an entity called Bollywood.”

Ram Gopal Varma further said, “That guy #ArnabGoswami is banking on the fact that we don’t have the spine and as long as he runs the debate he will anyway make sure no one’s point of view is ever heard and that’s his modus operandi anyway.”
