UP STF arrests ‘thug’ Anoop Chaudhary for pretending as Railway Ministry member

Uttar Pradesh STF has arrested the vicious Anoop Chaudhary, who cheated crores of rupees by pretending to be a member of the Government of India. Besides, his OSD cum driver Firoz has also been caught. Anup Chaudhary used to call himself a member of the Railway Ministry. Both have been caught from the Circuit House of Ayodhya. Uttarakhand Police has announced a reward of Rs 15 thousand on both of them. To show off his charm, Chaudhary had also deployed fake policemen for security.

According to the information, Anoop Chaudhary used to send letterheads to many states including Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh demanding protocols. Also, he used to dominate the officers in the name of VIP visits. Along with this, Chaudhary used to cheat people of money by claiming to get them tender. Cases of forgery are registered against Chaudhary in many districts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. UP STF was searching for him for a long time.

Anoop Chaudhary’s X account says that he’s a — “Member of BJP”, “Member of Government of India” and “Former Member of Government of Uttar Pradesh”. Anoop has also pinned a post on his X profile in which there is a letter for him, signed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Well, we don’t assure the credibility of this letter.

Well, after Chaudhary’s arrest, BJP’s arch rival Congress has attacked the BJP and claimed that ‘big thugs’ are roaming in the country under the Modi government. In a social media post on X, Congress wrote: “These days, big thugs ‘associated with Modi government’ are roaming in the country. Someone calls himself a PMO official and someone calls himself a member of the Modi government. Many thugs were caught in the past, today another thug has been caught – Anoop Chaudhary. Anoop is a BJP worker and has pictures with everyone from the PM to the Home Minister. He used to cheat by calling himself a member of Modi government. This fraud was going on for many years, when the matter escalated beyond limits and started going out of control, now he was arrested.”

An ongoing investigation is being told that Anoop Chaudhary was trying to cheat a person named Satya Prakash Verma in Ayodhya. When the STF team arrived to arrest Chaudhary, Verma was sitting there. During interrogation, Verma said that he was discussing with Chaudhary about setting up a company related to air travel to take darshan to various pilgrimage places. Apart from Anoop Chaudhary’s driver Firoz, a security personnel was also caught. He has been posted in Ghaziabad Police. STF officers are investigating this.

Railways’ passenger sector revenue increased by 92%

According to a statement from the Ministry of Railways, the Indian Railways registered a revenue gain of 92% in the passenger segment on Tuesday, with travel beginning from 1 April to 8 October.

According to a statement made public by the Ministry, Indian Railways’ approximate total revenues on an originating basis from 1 April to 8 October was Rs 33,476 crore, an increase of 92% from the same period of the previous fiscal’s period of Rs 17,394 crore.

According to Indian Railways, the number of passengers booked during the time experienced a significant increase in the unreserved passenger segment of 197%, while growth in the reserved passenger segment was 24% year over year.

The approximate total number of passengers booked in the reserved passenger sector from 1 April to 8 October 2022 is 42.89 crore, up from 34.56 crore over the same time last year, a 24% increase.

According to data from the Railways Ministry, the revenue from the restricted passenger segment was Rs 26961 crores from 1 April to 8 October, up from Rs 16307 crores during the same period last year, a 65% rise.

According to the ministry, the approximate total number of passengers booked in the unreserved passenger category from 1 April to 8 October 2022 is 268.56 crore, up 197% from 90.57 crore during the same period last year.

When compared to the same period previous year, the revenue from the unreserved passenger category increased by 500%, from Rs. 1086 crores to Rs. 6515 crores, from 1 April to 8 October.

Railway Ministry withdraws decision to split convenience fee revenue with IRCTC following dip in shares

Indian Railways has withdrawn its decision to seek a 50 percent share in revenue accumulated through the convenience fee charged by the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), Department of Investment and Public Asset Management Secretary Tuhin Kanta Panday disclosed.

The announcement comes after shares of IRCTC fell as much as 29 percent to hit an intraday low of Rs. 650.10 on the BSE after the company informed the exchanges that the Railway Ministry asked it to divide the earned convenience fee revenue in a 50:50 ratio on October 28.

The sharing of revenue generated from convenience fees was to commence from November 1, IRCTC notified the exchanges in a filing.

Analysts estimated that IRCTC would lose 43 percent of its profits with the new arrangement. However, sources claimed that the arrangement of convenience fee-sharing between the Railway Ministry and IRCTC had been in place before the pandemic, and was made 100 percent for IRCTC only during the course of the pandemic.

The sharing arrangement began in 2014, split in a ratio of 80:20 between IRCTC and the Indian Railways. The ratio was adjusted to 50:50 in 2015 but the charge remained withdrawn for three years from November 2016.

Following the reveal of the sharing arrangement, shares of IRCTC dipped to lock at a 20 percent lower circuit. Sell orders of 3,933,837 shares were pending due to a lack of buyers.

On Thursday, October 28, IRCTC share price was also readjusted as the stock was split in the ratio of 1:5, sub-dividing the face value of the share from Rs. 10 per share to Rs. 2 per share. The move had led to a 20 percent spurt in its share price in the session prior to the announcement made by IRCTC regarding the government’s decisions.
