The PMO announced that GatiShakti is based on the six principles of comprehensiveness, prioritisation, optimisation, synchronisation, and analytical and dynamic. It will produce large-scale employment opportunities, cut logistics expenses, enhance supply chains and make local goods ambitious globally.

Remarking that infrastructure production suffered in the nation for decades from complicated issues, including a coordination deficit between various departments, the PMO mentioned the example of newly-constructed roads being dug up by other agencies for activities like laying of underground cables, gas pipelines etc. “This not only caused great inconvenience but was also a wasteful expenditure,” the PMO said, adding that measures have been put in place to improve coordination.

According to the PMO, GatiShakti is the aftermath of PM Modi’s relentless effort to develop next-generation infrastructure, enhancing the ease of living and managing a business.

Khare has also served as Member Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Union Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Joint Secretary in the Department of Higher Education, Union Ministry of Human Resource Development. He holds an MBA from IIM, Ahmedabad, and has a Certificate in Public Administration from Syracuse University, US.

MEA praises New York authorities for returning 157 antiques to India

The US has returned a total of 157 artefacts and antiques to India which had been smuggled from the country over the years. The antiques were officially handed over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the United States last week which concluded on September 25.

An official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), after Modi’s return to the country, said both leaders had “committed to strengthening efforts to combat theft, illicit trade and trafficking of cultural objects” during the meeting.

“The endeavour embodies continuous efforts by the Modi government to bring back our antiquities & artefacts from across the world,” the PMO statement said.

The statement, which was released on Saturday, also expressed the Indian government gratitude towards the New York District Attorney’s Office for its “excellent support” in returning over 150 antiques to the country and commended its role in “strengthening Indo-American people-to-people ties and understanding culture through the restitution of precious artefacts.”

The news was also shared by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi on September 25, who tweeted, “Homecoming of Indian treasures! 157 Indian antiquities were returned by the Government of USA to the Government of India during the visit of PM @narendramodi to USA,” celebrating the feat.

Out of the list of items handed over to the country, over half are cultural antiques, while the other half consists of religious figurines; 60 are related to Hinduism, 16 are linked to Buddhism and the rest 9 are related to Jainism, the statement further declared.

Some prominent artefacts among the list include a 1.5-metre bas relief panel of Revanta (a Hindu deity) in sandstone (made in the 10th CE), an 8.5-cm Natraj figure from the 12th CE, and 56 terracotta pieces.

Maharashtra has reported over six lakh active cases and the state is struggling with the gradually declining medical facilities on multiple fronts – including rising demand for oxygen cylinders – a demand that, if unmet, could be fatal for many Covid patients.

Maharashtra is currently the worst Covid-19 affected state in the country. The state reported 63,729 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, which has taken the state’s infection tally past 3.7 million. As many as 398 fatalities due to the viral disease were also recorded on Friday and now the state’s death toll stands at 59,551.

PM Modi on Saturday held a meeting to review the coronavirus and vaccination situation. It was attended by several top officers across various ministries that started at 8 pm today.

PM Modi will deliver a virtually addressed speech at the Annual United Nations General Assembly at 6:30 pm IST today. This will be an Annual Meeting of the UN assembly which is going to be held at the UN office in New York . This will be the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which was started in 1945, after the end of World War II.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UN has decided to organize a virtual meeting. Most of the Speeches by the officials of the UN members is expected to be prerecorded and they will release it by the time of the meeting.
