Teacher recruitment protest turns violent in Patna, several aspirants injured in lathicharge

Thousands of teacher recruitment aspirants staged a major protest in Patna on Friday demanding the release of the notification for the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0 conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).

The protest escalated into chaos after police resorted to lathicharge near JP Golambar while attempting to stop demonstrators marching toward the BPSC office. Several aspirants reportedly sustained injuries during the crackdown.

According to reports, thousands of candidates gathered near Patna College before beginning a march toward the commission’s office to protest the delay in the TRE-4 recruitment advertisement. The candidates have been demanding clarity from BPSC regarding the release of the examination notification and recruitment schedule.

Police had placed barricades near JP Golambar to prevent protesters from moving further toward the commission office. Tensions escalated after some demonstrators allegedly attempted to remove or cross the barricades, following which security personnel used batons to disperse the crowd.

Visuals from the protest showed police personnel chasing demonstrators on roads while aspirants ran in different directions amid the lathicharge. Some protesters were seen falling on roads during the police action.

The demonstration caused traffic disruptions in parts of central Patna for several hours as large crowds gathered in the area. Authorities later increased security deployment around the BPSC office and adjoining routes to prevent further escalation.

The protesting aspirants alleged that repeated delays in issuing the TRE-4 notification were affecting their preparation and future employment opportunities. Many candidates have been demanding an immediate announcement regarding vacancies and examination timelines.

There was no immediate official statement from BPSC regarding the recruitment notification at the time of reporting. Police officials also did not release details on detentions or the exact number of injured protesters.

The incident has once again brought focus on growing frustration among government job aspirants in Bihar over delays in recruitment examinations and appointment processes.

SBI Life Insurance has confirmed a tax demand of ₹6,19,497 for the financial year 2021-2022, following an order received from the Additional Commissioner of State Tax (Appeal), Patna Special Circle, Bihar, on April 24, 2026.

The order, which was received at 2.57 pm, upholds the tax demand initially issued by the Deputy Commissioner of State Tax, Patna Special Central, Bihar, on December 22, 2025. The demand includes interest of ₹3,80,989 and a penalty of ₹64,697, as per the previous order.

SBI Life Insurance has stated its intention to file an appeal against the order with the Competent Authority or Appellate Tribunal, in accordance with the provisions of the Goods and Service Tax Act. The company has assured that the order will not have any adverse material impact on its financial operations.

SJVN signs MoU with ovt. of Bihar for 1000 MW Hathidah Durgawati pumped storage project

SJVN (Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Bihar for the development of the 1000 MW Hathidah Durgawati Pumped Storage Project (PSP) along with other PSPs in the state.

The MoU was signed in Patna, in the presence of key officials including Sh. Vijay Kumar Sinha, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Sh. Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Minister of Energy and Planning & Development, Sh. Nitish Mishra, Minister of Industries and Tourism, and Sh. Raj Kumar Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of SJVN.

The MoU was officially signed by Sh. Mukesh Kumar Sharma, General Manager, BDE, SJVN, and Smt. Bandana Preyashi, IAS (Secretary), Department of Industries, Govt. of Bihar. This collaboration is set to generate significant employment opportunities, with the development of these PSPs expected to create both direct and indirect employment for around 5,000 individuals. Additionally, the project will involve an investment of approximately ₹10,000 crore.

In August 2022, the Ministry of Power, Government of India, designated SJVN as the nodal agency for the development of Pumped Storage Projects in Bihar. Subsequently, four PSPs were allotted to SJVN by the Secretary (Energy), Government of Bihar, on August 22, 2022. These include Telharkund PSP (400 MW), Sinafdar PSP (345 MW), Panchgotia PSP (225 MW), and Hathidah Durgawati PSP (1600 MW). Following a series of ranking studies, SJVN identified the Hathidah Durgawati PSP as the most viable project and prepared a Feasibility Study Report (FSR) for the same, which proposes a capacity of 1000 MW.

Located on the Durgawati River in Kaimur district, Bihar, the Hathidah Durgawati PSP will have an installed capacity of 1000 MW (4×250 MW). The project is expected to generate a daily peak energy output of 6.325 million units (MU) and an annual peak energy of 2,308.65 MU. The estimated project cost is ₹5,663 crore, with a levelized tariff of ₹9.39 per kWh (assuming a pumping energy rate of ₹3 per kWh) based on February 2024 price levels.

SJVN is currently engaged in the development of approximately 12,000 MW of PSPs across various states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Mizoram, and Himachal Pradesh. The Hathidah Durgawati PSP is expected to play a pivotal role in meeting the growing energy demands of Bihar while contributing significantly to the state’s renewable energy initiatives.

In broad daylight on Friday (December 15) in the Bihar’s Capital Patna, a criminal named Chhote Sarkar was shot dead by miscreants. The incident took place in Danapur Court complex. Prisoner Chhote Sarkar was brought to appear in the court. Meanwhile, the miscreants who reached the court premises opened fire indiscriminately. There was chaos in the court premises after the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Kumar alias Chhote Sarkar, resident of Sikandarpur in Bihta police station area. It is being told that many serious criminal cases including murder are registered against this prisoner. The prisoner was lodged in Beur jail. The incident happened on Friday afternoon. Patna HC issues warrant of arrest against Sahara Chief Subrata Roy

Patna, May 13: Patna High Court on Friday issued warrant of arrest against Sahara supremo Subrata Roy. After he failed to appear in person. Bihar Police suspends SHO accused of being involved with the liquor mafia

The Bihar Police has suspended one of its inspectors, Mohommad Qaisar Alam, for allegedly having a nexus with the state’s liquor mafia. Alam was posted as the Station House Officer (SHO) at the Buddha Colony police station in the city of Patna. The action was taken on the basis of a report given by Inspector General Amrit Raj.

Alam’s alleged wrongdoing was detected after five individuals were arrested in the Digha police station area for their involvement with the liquor mafia. Two SUVs and over 326 litres of alcohol were seized from them in the raid conducted on June 12.

During the investigation conducted by the Prohibition Department of the Police, it emerged that one of the accused, who had run away, was in contact with Alam and was getting protection for his illicit liquor business from the inspector. According to Patna SSP Upendra Sharma, “The SHO has been placed under suspension based on a report on his illegal activities.”

The now-suspended Bihar Police inspector has had a fair share of controversies in the past as well. In 2018, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son Tej Pratap had accused Alam of keeping a liquor bottle in his chamber and asked CM Nitish Kumar for his removal. The sale, purchase, and consumption of alcohol are banned in Bihar since April 2016 when the Bihar Excise and Prohibition Act came into effect.

An inquiry was ordered against him in May 2019 for illegally detaining a person whose vehicle had been seized for not having the required papers. He is also accused of committing the fake encounter of Mohommad Gurfan in 2002.

Terrorists behind explosion in Darbhanga Station appeared in court on Friday

On June 17 a chemical explosion occurred at the Darbhanga Station which was investigated by the NIA team on June 26, and based on the investigation, two terrorists, Imran Malik and Nasir Khan were arrested in Hyderabad on June 30.

The two terrorists appeared in the NIA court on Friday, and with an interrogation with the ATS, it has been alleged that the two terrorists were in touch with Pakistan and Lashkar-e-Taiba. In the NIA reports, the terrorists planned to explode the train and cause huge fatality, there was a glass bottle kept inside the parcel which was kept inside of the train by the two brothers, the blast occurred when the parcel were being taken off the train and the explosion occurred on the platform instead of inside the train, which led to the investigation by NIA.

It had been said that Imran Malik AKA Imran Khan and his brother Mohammad Nasir Khan had planned to carry out terrorist activities across the country by terrorists from Lakshkar-e-Taiba.

Imran and Nasir had packed the explosives in a cloth parcel, the package had been sent to Datbhanga from Secunderabad on the Darbhanga Express, the motive was to cause massive loss of life and property by setting the bandwagon on fire.

After the arrest of the two terrorists, they sought help from the UP Police and based on the information provided by the NIA, police arrested Haji Salim and Kafil Ahmed who were residents if Kairana and turned them over to the NIA in the case of package explosion at Darbhanga.

Nasir Khan was arrested in 2012 in Hyderabad and was trained with Lakshar Terrorists when he traveled to Pakistan to manufacture IED’s from chemicals. Whereas Imran was in contact with Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Earthquake of magnitude 5.4 strikes Bihar, Assam, West Bengal

An earthquake hit Patna, the capital of Bihar on Monday evening. The tremors were reportedly felt in many areas including Araria and Kishanganj around 8:49 pm. The earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale occurred near the Sikkim-Nepal border.

However, no immediate casualties or damage have been reported yet.

Earlier, in February 2021, an earthquake of a magnitude 3.5 on the Richter scale was felt in Patna at 9.23 pm on Monday. According to the National Center of Seismology, the epicenter of the previous earthquake in Patna was located at 25.41, 85.35 degrees.

Divan mentioned about the complaint filed by Sushant’s father and argued that all the allegations which are charged are relatable to Mumbai adding how there was a delay of over 38 days in filing the FIR in Patna. By making several other statements he even asserted how due to state interference and influence might make the case biased. Divan argued that Sushant’s father is using influential relatives to ‘frame’ Rhea Chakraborty. He also suggested how the way to acquire justice in this case shall be achieved by accepting Rhea’s appeal to transfer the case from Patna to Mumbai.
