The city police will establish "Cyberspace," a center for excellence in cyber security, modeled after Kerala Police's "Cyberdome." This center will be built through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

Bengaluru, India’s IT capital, is unfortunately also the nation’s hotspot for cybercrime. With nearly three-fourths of all cybercrimes in Indian metropolises occurring within its borders, the city’s police force is taking decisive action. The soon-to-be-launched “Cyberspace” initiative, a centre for excellence in cyber security, aims to become a formidable weapon in this digital battleground.

Inspired by Kerala Police’s successful “Cyberdome” project, “Cyberspace” will be built through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This collaboration between the public and private sectors leverages the expertise of both, ensuring a robust and efficient centre. NASSCOM, the National Association of Software and Service Companies, and other IT giants in Bengaluru have expressed keen interest in partnering with the police, showcasing the industry’s commitment to strengthening the city’s cyber security posture.

“Cyberspace” envisions a multi-pronged approach to tackling cybercrime. One crucial aspect will be prevention, achieved through citizen and business awareness campaigns. Educating the public about the ever-evolving tactics of cybercriminals and empowering them with defensive measures is vital in the fight against online threats. Additionally, “Cyberspace” will equip businesses, particularly those in the vulnerable IT sector, with the necessary tools and knowledge to fortify their digital defences.

Beyond prevention, “Cyberspace” will also act as a hub for cybercrime investigation. When digital crimes occur, victims often feel helpless and unsure of where to turn. This centre will provide a dedicated space for them to report incidents, access expert assistance, and seek justice. A team of highly trained investigators, equipped with cutting-edge technology and forensic expertise, will meticulously analyze evidence and track down perpetrators.

However, the fight against cybercrime demands not just reactive measures but also proactive ones. This is where the proposed Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) comes into play. While “Cyberspace” focuses on prevention and investigation, a CSOC would enable real-time monitoring and response to cyber-attacks. This dedicated unit would constantly scan for vulnerabilities, identify ongoing attacks, and take immediate action to mitigate the damage. The absence of a CSOC, despite its allocation in the previous budget, remains a concern for some experts who believe it’s crucial for a comprehensive cyber defence strategy.

The launch of “Cyberspace” marks a significant step forward in Bengaluru’s fight against cybercrime. By combining public and private expertise, focusing on prevention, investigation, and potentially real-time response, this initiative has the potential to become a national model for tackling the ever-growing menace of online threats.

Nasscom projects a significant increase in the technology industry's total headcount by the end of this fiscal year, highlighting the sector's growth and resilience.

The technology industry is gearing up for a substantial increase in its total headcount, with projections indicating a figure of 5.43 million by the end of this fiscal year in March. This forecast, released by industry body Nasscom, underscores the sector’s robust growth and resilience in the face of global challenges.

The tech industry has long been a driving force behind economic development and job creation, and these latest figures further solidify its pivotal role in the economy. Despite the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other uncertainties, the industry has shown remarkable adaptability and agility, enabling it to continue its expansion trajectory.

Nasscom’s projections reflect not only the industry’s current strength but also its optimistic outlook for the future. The increase in headcount is expected to be driven by a variety of factors, including continued digital transformation efforts across industries, increased demand for technology services, and the emergence of new technologies and business models.

One of the key drivers of this growth is the ongoing shift towards remote work and digital collaboration, which has accelerated the adoption of digital technologies and services. This has created new opportunities for tech companies to innovate and expand their offerings, leading to an increased demand for skilled professionals in areas such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.

Another factor contributing to the growth of the tech industry is the increasing focus on digitalization and technology adoption by businesses across sectors. As companies seek to enhance their digital capabilities and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving landscape, they are turning to technology solutions and services to drive growth and efficiency.

Nasscom’s projections also highlight the importance of upskilling and reskilling initiatives to meet the growing demand for tech talent. As technology continues to evolve at a rapid pace, there is a need for professionals to continuously update their skills and knowledge to remain relevant in the industry.

Nasscom’s projections for the tech industry’s total headcount reflect a positive outlook for the sector, highlighting its resilience and growth potential. As the industry continues to drive digital transformation and innovation, it is poised to play an increasingly vital role in driving economic growth and creating employment opportunities.

NASSCOM Foundation on Wednesday announced its collaboration with DXC Technology to enable marginalized communities with digital capabilities and skill Indian...

NASSCOM Foundation on Wednesday announced its collaboration with DXC Technology to enable marginalized communities with digital capabilities and skill Indian youth as part of an eight-month project.

In its fourth consecutive year of collaboration, NASSCOM Foundation and DXC Technology will be working towards the common goal of bridging the skills gap that the youth in India faces today, and address the digital divide, especially in Tier-II and Tier-III cities wherein there are accessibility constraints, NASSCOM Foundation CEO Nidhi Bhasin told reporters here.

This project closely aligns with DXC Technology’s philosophy of leveraging technology for social good and for improving the quality of life of the local community and society at large. The aim is also to contribute to economic development across communities, in keeping with the Digital India vision, she said.

The scope of this partnership will have two key focus areas – within the ambit of the first category, 20 ‘Resource Centres for Digital Literacy and e-Governance’ will be established in aspirational districts spread across seven states including, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Nidhi said.

These Resource Centres will help in creating agents of change and engines of development by providing need-based information, e-resources and an array of digital services that will impact citizens’ lives and livelihoods in alignment with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, she said.

The Resource Centres will be equipped with digital assets like computers and printers, online resources like subscriptions to informative pages/channels and physical resources such as books, magazines, and newsletters to make digital tools accessible to the entire community, Nidhi said.

Communities will also be connected to appropriate government schemes and e-governance services in addition to receiving ample training in digital skills. The skill-building initiative, on the other hand, strives to prepare India’s youth for a digital future, she stated.

Through this initiative, young people in India will receive advanced technical training that will improve their employability skills to meet market demands, and 60% of the beneficiaries will also receive support with job placement after successfully completing the course, Nidhi said.

“We have always recognised India’s demographic dividend as one of its greatest assets. However, what needs to be addressed is the ever- increasing digital divide in the country. A holistic approach, embedded in digital empowerment is the need of the hour, that not only bridges the digital divide but also makes the youth future ready. For that reason, this collaboration with DXC Technology, is extremely encouraging as it strives to address both these key aspects of digital literacy and skilling. The next 8 months will be critical in proving that technology can enable transformation at scale, especially when the right partners come together with a shared vision,” she said.

DXC Global Delivery Network Lead and DXC India Managing Director Nachiket Sukhtankar said DXC’s social responsibility mission is to strengthen the backbone of the society by enabling the youth with the right education and skilling opportunities.

“In today’s digital world, if young minds and especially young women of the country are empowered with the knowledge of technology and important life skills, we can transform the future for the better. Engaging with and enabling the youth in tier II and III cities is the key to unlocking the full potential of tomorrow’s change agents. This collaboration with NASSCOM Foundation has enabled us to take another step in the direction of our goal and we are proud to be a part of this journey,” he said.
This collaboration will also provide DXC Technology an opportunity to enable its employees to be a part of this transformation journey through volunteering, Sukhtankar said.

DXC employees can volunteer as certified Digital Ambassadors (DAs) who will be responsible to motivate community members to participate in the program and be the change agents, he said.

“Employees can also participate in DAs training sessions and conduct some ice breaking sessions and mentor DAs with leadership, communication and liaising skills. Lastly, the initiative also allows volunteers to interact with community members who are being trained on digital and financial literacy modules,” he said.
