Essentially an open-air museum with over 100 locations to explore, Hampi allows visitors to experience the city through the lens of its rich history. It is famous for its massive, intricately carved temples, especially the Virupaksha Temple dedicated to the empire’s patron deity. One can also find remnants of old aqueducts, canals, military barracks and stables here.

Declared a UNESCO site in 1986, efforts have been made to restore Hampi’s lost glory while retaining an authentic feel by limiting modern developments in the main area.
With its archaeological treasures, captivating landscapes, and an aura of ancient splendour, Hampi provides an unparalleled experience for those seeking to unravel the mysteries of India’s mythical past.

Gokarna

Gokarna is a Hindu pilgrimage town in Karnataka that has recently emerged as a hub for beach lovers and hippies alike, owing to its pristine beaches and breathtaking natural landscapes. Situated along the Karwar coast, this coastal town welcomes throngs of tourists from around the world each year, who come in search of serenity and relaxation.

The beaches located outside the main town, such as Kudle Beach and Om Beach, offer a stark contrast to the lively atmosphere within Gokarna. These palm-fringed beaches are predominantly visited by foreign tourists, creating a unique, laidback vibe rarely found elsewhere in India.

Gokarna is not a typical tourist destination. The beaches here are meant for a slow-paced, rejuvenating holiday experience, where everything unfolds at an unhurried, relaxed pace. With its abundance of coconut and palm trees, sparkling ocean, and clean sandy stretches, Gokarna provides a truly one-of-a-kind getaway unlike any other in the country.

Apart from its culinary fame, Udupi boasts intricately carved ancient temples, laidback beaches, and unexplored forests. It is also home to the prominent educational hub of Manipal.Situated 60 km from Mangalore, Udupi is revered for its rich temple culture and picturesque beaches. Nestled between the Arabian Sea on one side and the Western Ghats on the other, this district offers visitors the best of both worlds – coastal and inland scenery.

Being a holy town, one of the major attractions is the Krishna Temple. Udupi is also locally known as Rajata Peetha and Shivalli.

Jog Falls

Another major tourist draw is the Jog Falls, the second-highest plunge waterfall in India and the tallest in Karnataka. Cascading from an impressive height of 253 meters (850 feet) in a single drop, second only to Meghalaya’s Nohkalikai Falls. However, due to the nearby Linganamakki Dam’s hydroelectric operations, the waterfall’s flow is restricted before the monsoon season. To witness Jog Falls in its full grandeur, it’s best to plan a visit during the monsoon months.

Located a 2-hour drive from Shimoga city, this seasonal waterfall is divided into four segments – Raja, Roarer, Rocket, and Rani – each with its distinct characteristics, creating a spellbinding visual spectacle amidst lush surroundings.

Karnataka’s kaleidoscope of landscapes, rich heritage, and culinary delights beckons travellers to immerse themselves in its myriad charms. Whether exploring ancient ruins in Hampi, savouring coastal serenity in Gokarna, or indulging in culinary delights in Udupi, Karnataka offers an unforgettable journey through its diverse wonders.
