India’s online gaming industry gears up for growth with regulation

India’s online gaming industry which is the world’s second-largest gamer base, finds itself at a crossroads. Despite its immense potential, the lack of a cohesive regulatory framework has hampered its growth, casting a shadow over investments, talent acquisition, and innovation. However, the Modi government has taken the initiative to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework.

The challenges plaguing the online gaming domain are manifold. The implementation of a new tax framework in late 2023 saw the sector’s GST contribution skyrocket by 400%, translating to a staggering Rs. 1,200 crore per month. Furthermore, the industry employs over one lakh individuals directly and indirectly, a number poised to double within the next five years under a supportive regulatory environment.

The absence of clear-cut regulations creates uncertainty for investors, making them hesitant to pour capital into a market riddled with ambiguities. This, in turn, restricts the industry’s growth potential and hampers job creation. Additionally, the lack of a uniform regulatory framework across different states leads to conflicting interpretations of laws, creating operational hurdles for gaming companies. This inconsistency discourages talent from entering the sector, further impeding its progress.

Recognizing the critical role online gaming can play in India’s journey towards becoming a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, the Modi government has taken decisive steps towards establishing a regulatory framework. The formation of an “informal Group of Ministers” (GoM) encompassing key ministries like MeitY, MIB, MoF, MHA, and PMO signifies the government’s commitment to a comprehensive and inclusive approach. Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s recent statements emphasizing an open, transparent, and consultative approach further underscore this commitment.

The potential benefits of regulation are manifold. Firstly, it can unlock a significant revenue stream for the government, particularly through the taxation of skill-based real-money games, a major driver of industry income. Secondly, it can create a plethora of job opportunities, with estimates suggesting a potential rise to 250,000 within the next few years. Thirdly, it can act as a catalyst for the growth of ancillary industries like cybersecurity, customer service, digital payments, and marketing, creating a ripple effect throughout the economy.

Furthermore, regulation can foster innovation in key technologies like AI, blockchain, and data analytics, propelling the industry to the forefront of technological advancements. This, in turn, can attract foreign investment and global gaming companies, further accelerating the sector’s growth.

Recent indications suggest a potential shift away from the Skill Regulation Bill (SRB) model, paving the way for a more independent regulatory body akin to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). This centralized model can ensure fair competition, protect consumer interests, and maintain high-quality standards within the industry.

Amit Shah criticizes Congress, praises Modi government’s achievements in Rajasthan’s speech

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the Congress party during his address to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Describing the Congress as “dynastic” and “directionless,” Shah accused the party of hindering the progress and development of the country. He specifically targeted the Congress’s role in delaying the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, alleging that they lacked the intention to facilitate its construction.

Shah stated that hindrances and delays in building the temple of Prabhu Shri Ram were caused by the Congress, underscoring the BJP’s commitment to fulfilling the long-standing promise of constructing the temple.

Shah expressed gratitude to the voters of Rajasthan for their support in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, as well as for electing BJP candidates to power in the state. He lauded the contributions of late Sundar Singh Bhandari in strengthening the BJP’s presence in Rajasthan.

Referring to slogans raised by Prime Minister Modi at the BJP’s National Convention, Shah reiterated the party’s determination to secure victory in the upcoming elections. He urged party workers to ensure that BJP candidates win all 25 seats in Rajasthan, echoing the slogans “Ab Ki Baar 400 paar” and “Fir Ek Baar Modi Sarkar.”

Shah also highlighted the Modi government’s firm stance against terrorism, contrasting it with the perceived inaction of previous governments. He praised the government’s response to terror attacks, including the airstrikes and surgical strikes conducted in response to provocations from Pakistan.

The Home Minister further commended the decision to abrogate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that it had brought stability and progress to the region. He emphasized that the Modi government had fulfilled a long-standing promise to revoke the controversial article, which had hindered the integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India.

Shah credited the leadership of Prime Minister Modi for India’s economic growth and global standing, asserting that under Modi’s leadership, the country had ascended to become the fifth-largest economy in the world. He expressed confidence that a third term for Modi would lead to further economic progress, projecting that India’s economy could rise to the third rank within the next five years.

Concluding his address, Shah reiterated his criticism of the Congress, accusing the party of corruption and inefficiency. He contrasted the alleged transparency of the Modi government with the perceived corruption scandals that plagued the Congress during its tenure.

On Friday, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the first RapidX train connecting Sahibabad to Duhai depot, marking the launch of RRTS ( a new rail-based, semi-high-speed, high-frequency commuter transit system) in India.

“This is a historic moment for the entire country. Today the functioning of the RRTS corridors has begun also India’s first Rapid Rail services – Namo Bharat trains are being dedicated to the nation,” said PM Narendra Modi on Friday Addressing the public after the inauguration of the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor.

Overwhelmed by the success of RapidX PM added: “Four years back, I laid the foundation stone of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Corridor project. Today, the services of Namo Bharat have started on the stretch from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot. I had said earlier too, and I say it today as well – Jiska shilanyaas hum karte hain, uska udghatan bhi hum hi karte hain.”

The foundation stone for the same was laid by the Prime Minister on 8th March 2019.

“On this new train (Namo Bharat), from the driver to the entire crew – they are all women. This is the symbol of growing women empowerment in India,” PM quoted.

Recalling his childhood, PM said: “I had the opportunity to experience travel on this ultra-modern train (Namo Bharat). I spent my childhood on the railway platform, and today this new form of the railways is filling me with joy. This experience is delightful. We have the tradition of performing auspicious works during Navratri. India’s first Namo Bharat train has received the blessings of Maa Katyayani today.”

The inauguration was welcomed with immense pleasure and hearty congratulations by various ministers.

Mixing the joy with the success of Chandrayan-3 Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “The success of this project is equivalent to Chandrayan 3. Soon we will have the largest metro network in the world.”

Narendra Modi government doing no work, only engaged in advertising : Nitish

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said that Narendra Modi government was doing nothing and indulged in only advertising and propagation to create a false impression of ‘everything is well ‘.

Kumar while addressing a function organised to mark launching of Rural Solar light scheme in Bihar, said that present regime at the Centre was doing nothing and creating a false impression among the people on the basis of propagation and advertising.

People were not getting any benefits and relief from the Centre, he added.

Chief Minister said that his government had launched to provide piped water to all households in Bihar much earlier than Centre rolled out this scheme. But the Centre tried to hijack scheme of his government to take its credit.

Kumar also came down heavily on present regime at the Centre for choking the freedom of press.

Media was not being allowed to report truth while earlier not such a situation was prevailing, he added.

Chief Minister said that proper investigation was on in serial firing incident of Begusarai.

He also dismissed all allegations of Union Minister Giriraj Singh about collapse of law and order
in the state, saying all these were baseless.

Kumar said that he himself was monitoring law and order situation in the state.

Accused involved in Begusarai firing incident would not be spared at all, he stressed.

Rahul Gandhi slams Centre over EPF rate cut

New Delhi, June 4: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took a dig at the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre over cut in interest rate of Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF).

He ridiculed the Modi model as ‘increase inflation, income reduce model’ of the ruling dispensation.

“Just by calling ones residential address as ‘Lok Kalyan Marg’ it need not bring welfare to people. The Prime Minister implemented the ‘increase inflation, income reduce model’ to destroy the present and future of 6.5 crore employees,’ he tweeted.

The former Congress president along with his tweet also shared a graphic. Showing the cut in EPF interest rate since 2015.

The statement of the Wayanad MP comes a day after. The Centre fixed EPF interest rate at 8.1 per cent for financial year 2022.

Cabinet approves infusion of ₹1500 crore in Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday, Jan 19 approved the equity infusion of Rs 1500 crore in the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA).

“This will enable IREDA to lend Rs 12,000 crores to the renewable energy sector,” Union Minister, Anurag Thakur said. According to the press release, the equity infusion will assist in employment generation of around 10200 jobs-year.

Additional equity infusion of Rs 1500 crore by the Government of India will allow IREDA to lend Rs 12000 crore approximately to the RE sector, consequently facilitating the debt requirement of RE of additional capacity of approximately 3500-4000 MW and to enhance its net worth which will aid it in extra RE financing, therefore contributing better to the Government of India targets for RE. It will further help to improve the capital-to-risk weighted assets ratio (CRAR) to facilitate its lending and borrowing operations.

Due to this decision of the Union Cabinet, about 74.9 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions will be reduced every year in India. This decision of the government is being considered as an important step towards tackling climate change.

The 2 days CII Annual Meet 2021 will be conducted on 11-12 August. The main theme for the CII Annual Meeting is ‘India@75: Government and Business working together for Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

The Prime Minister addressed the group of corporates and economists after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) ascertained the GDP growth forecast for the upcoming year 2022 which remained unaltered at 9.5%.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal appointed as the new leader of Rajya Sabha

BJP leader and Union Minister Piyush Goyal have been appointed as the new leader of the house in the Rajya Sabha, replacing Thawarchand Gehlot who had been shunted out of the Union Cabinet in the recently held cabinet expansion of the Modi government. Goyal had earlier served as deputy leader in Rajya Sabha.

Piyush Goyal is a member of the union cabinet and looks after several portfolios- the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution, and the Textile Ministry. He also served as the union railway minister but the post was given to ex- IAS officer Ashwini Vaishnaw in the cabinet expansion undertaken by PM Modi earlier this month. Goyal was given the responsibility of the Textiles ministry in the expansion from Smriti Irani.

He has remained a member of the Rajya Sabha for the BJP since 2010. Being the house leader, Goyal will now be seated on the first seat of Rajya Sabha, alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Piyush Goyal, son of BJP leader Ved Prakash Goyal, is considered to be close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who considers him a great performer. His appointment as the Rajya Sabha leader is crucial with the Parliament’s monsoon session starting next week from July 19.

However, despite his new appointment, Goyal has not been inducted into the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs where leaders like Smriti Irani, Bhupender Yadav, and Sarbananda Sonowal were bought in as new members yesterday.

Goyal’s predecessor, Thawarchand Gehlot was removed from the union cabinet and has been appointed as the new governor for the state of Karnataka.

IPO bound LIC’s Chairman post removed, replaced by CEO and Managing Director

In a new set of amendments, the government of India has now removed the Chairman’s position in the state-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India(LIC). The Chairman will now be replaced by a Chief Executive Officer and a Managing Director. The changes are being made in line with the government’s intention to get the insurance giant listed on the stock market. The LIC’s Initial Public Offering(IPO) is likely to be released in the current fiscal year.

For this purpose, changes have been made to certain provisions under the LIC Act, 1956 including the Life Insurance Corporation of India(Employees) Pension(Amendment) Rules. A gazette notification issued on Wednesday stated that “Chief Executive and Managing Director means the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director appointed by the Central Government under section 4 of the Act (LIC Act 1956)”.

Of late, several amendments have been made by the finance ministry under FM Nirmala Sitharaman with regards to LIC. Recently, the ministry gave its approval to the LIC to raise its authorised share capital to Rs 25,000 crore. The Department of Economic Affairs has also bought amendments to the Securities Contracts(Regulation) Rules, allowing companies having a market cap. of greater than 1 lakh crore to sell only five per cent of their shares. However, these companies will be required to sell 10 per cent and 25 per cent of their shares in the stock market in two and five years respectively.

Established as an insurance firm by the government of India in 1956, the Life Insurance Corporation of India(LIC) enjoys a whopping 60.77% market share in the Indian insurance sector as of March 2021. The Modi government had announced disinvestment of the LIC in its 2021-22 budget.

They are Nisith Pramanik, John Barla, Santanu Thakur and Subhash Sarkar. All 4 are likely to be made Minstry of states.

Ahead of this there will be 11 women ministers, 13 lawyers, 6 doctors, 5 engineers and 7 former civil servants that is likely to join the cabinet.

The average is fallen down from 61 to 58 joining in the cabinet.

Also we can see 7 ministers from UP cabinet.

Besides this Ally, JDU has bagged a Cabinet berth and other ranks. PM Narendra Modi is all set to get a new Council of Ministers with the first major Cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday at 5:30 pm since BJP’s victory in 2019.

BJP leaders such as Sarbananda Sonowal, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Narayan Rane are being seen as the front-runners for bagging the position at Cabinet berth in the Modi government. According to the latest updates coming in from the cabinet reshuffle, it is likely to see that, Tamil Nadu BJP president L Murugan may get a berth into the Modi Cabinet. He was seen at the PM’s residence this morning.

As per exclusive reports by India Today there will be 43 Ministers will take an oath today at 6pm today in Modi cabinet.

It is also likely to be seen that there will be 14 young blood in the cabinet who are below the age of 15.

Besides this Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the Modi Cabinet will likely to get 7 leaders from UP. They are: Kaushal Kishore, SP Baghel, Pankaj Choudhary, BL Verma, Ajay Mishra, Bhanu Pratap Verma and Apna Dal’s Anupriya Patel.

Central Government has formed a new ministry ‘Ministry of Co-operation’

For the first time, it has become a historic move by the Modi Government and has now created a separated ‘Ministry of Co-operation’ under the vision of “Sahkar se Samriddhi.”

This ministry is likely to provide a separate administrative body, which will be legal and will look under the policy framework for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country. It will also help to deepen the Co-operatives as a true people-based movement that is likely to reach up to the grassroots.

In India, it is very relevant for members to work with a spirit of responsibility in a Co-operative based economic development model.

The ministry is likely to work under the streamline processes of ‘Ease of doing business’ for co-operatives and enable the development of Multi-State Co-operative.

The Central Government has also signaled up its deep commitment to community-based developmental partnerships. The Creation of a separate Ministry for Co-operation can also fulfill the budget announcement made by the Finance Minister.

As reported earlier by news agency ANI it said that the expansion may take place on 8 July 2021. It also said about the reshuffle and expansion of the union council ministers, the first in the second term of Prime Minister, is likely to see record induction of members from OBC and SC communities.
