Mumbai, Apr 24: Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that India has set an ambitious target of USD two trillion dollars in exports in next few years.

Speaking at 49th edition of the India Gem & Jewellery Awards (IGJA) here on Sunday, he said, “Our exporters have achieved a remarkable feat by generating USD 770 billion in exports during the most challenging times. This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work and resilience of all the stakeholders involved.”

“We are setting our sights on the ambitious target of reaching USD two trillion in exports within the next few years,” he noted.
“The gem and jewellery industry should leverage its rich heritage of design and craftsmanship to propel itself to new heights in the global market,” added Goyal.

Frank Geerkens, Consul General of Belgium in Mumbai, was the special guest of honour.

Also present on the occasion was Vipul Shah, chairman, GJPEC, a release stated here on Monday.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal to pay official visit to France and Italy

New Delhi, Apr 9: Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal will be paying an official visit to France and Italy from April 11 to 13. He would be accompanied by a delegation of top Indian CEOs during the visit.

Minister Goyal along with Olivier Becht, Minister delegate of Foreign Trade of France will co-chair the India France Business Summit, commemorating 25 years of India-France Friendship on April 11.

The Summit will focus on themes including building a green future, emerging technologies, defence cooperation and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific regions.
The Minister is also scheduled to meet with French business leaders across various sectors and will attend a CEOs roundtable in France.

During the France visit, Minister Goyal along with French Minister Olivier Becht will participate in an event that will showcase India’s cultural heritage and soft power and is expected to witness participation of 600+ dignitaries from the French government, the Indian Business Diaspora in France and members of French business community. The Minister will also be interacting with members of the Indian community in Paris, a statement said.

The Minister will later travel to Rome, Italy where he would meet Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation followed by a networking dinner with dignitaries from the Government and industry. He is scheduled to meet top Italian CEOs for bilateral meetings followed by CEOs Interactive Business Session, where 35 CEOs are likely to participate. This would be followed by a meeting with Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, who would also interact with Indian CEOs.

The visit is expected to impart further momentum to bilateral relations with India’s key business partners in the European region, it added.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal lashed out at the Opposition parties for walking out of Rajya Sabha on Monday after the Chair denied their request for a debate on the China border dispute.

Goyal stated that the House today witnessed the frustration and complete lack of decorum from Opposition parties, who have reached a point where they no longer believe in any rules governing the operation of Parliament.

“In Rajya Sabha today we witnessed the frustration and complete lack of decorum from Opposition parties. Their frustration reached a level where they don’t believe in any rules/regulations in the functioning of Parliament,” Goyal said, reported ANI.

He claimed that the opposition parties are even denying the Chair’s rulings and acting in an obstructionist and destructive manner.

“They are even denying rulings/observations of the Chair. Unfortunately, the Opposition is behaving as an obstructionist and destructive. On sensitive issues, past practices also are that discussion doesn’t take place,” the minister said.

He added, “Defence minister already made a detailed statement in Rajya Sabha, after which, we would’ve expected Opposition, particularly Cong to respect our Army, jawans at the border, and their commitment towards the nation. Rahul Gandhi continues to cast aspersions on Army.”

Speaking about recently concluded FTAs he said. That the recent FTA’s with developed nations would bring large market to our labor intensive exports. And is expected to increase bilateral trade in goods to $100 bn. The India Australia ECTA aims at boosting bilateral trade to $100 bn. By 2030 from current level of around $27.5 bn, he further said.

“FTAs are providing huge opportunities for businesses. Across the developed world and in India, to support each other’s economies. Needs, to create jobs in a big measure in India and the counterparty countries. Therefore, what we are looking for is a fair, equitable win-win transactions. With all countries with whom we are expanding our engagements”.

Union Minister Goyal also said that in the last 6 years or so, India saw a record FDI, and particularly in 2020-21, which saw the highest ever FDI of 82 billion US dollars flowing into India.

India triumphs in meeting its export target of $400 billion

Just 9 days ahead of the scheduled time, India shows massive achievement in meeting its $400 billion targets in exports.

India enjoys the position of Asia’s third massive economy and had preset this target for the fiscal year of 2022. Interestingly between the months of April-December India achieved $300 billion in exports.

Prime Minister Modi enthusiastically tweeted, “It’s a major achievement in our ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat chapter’, I heartily congratulate our farmers, MSMEs, Manufacturers, weavers, exporters, traders, to achieve such a giant feat. India preset this target and achieved it today for the very first time.”

Way back in February, during a Lok Sabha session Minister Piyush Goyal who holds the portfolio of Commerce and Industry, said, “Consecutively for 10^th months India has recorded close to $ 30 billion in exports in the time period of April 2021 – January 2022. It’s a massive record as we have crossed $334 billion which is a first-timer for India in 12 months, we are sure to achieve a $400 billion target in exports.”

Many promising initiatives that have been curated to increase export sales and help in superior market presence have been planned and catapulted by the Department of Commerce for the present fiscal year.
