Overloaded boat hits floating bridge in Yamuna, 10 dead, rescue under way

A boat carrying around 25 tourists and pilgrims capsized in the Yamuna River in Vrindavan, Mathura, on Friday afternoon, April 10, 2026, killing 10 people and leaving several others missing, officials said. The steamer, which was ferrying devotees near Kesi Ghat (also referred to as Shringar Ghat), reportedly collided with a floating pipa (log) bridge shortly after 2:30–2:45 pm, causing it to overturn and triggering a major rescue operation.

What happened and rescue

Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh confirmed that the accident occurred in the Yamuna near Kesi Ghat, where a boat carrying about 25–27 people capsized after hitting the floating bridge. The exact number of passengers remains under review, with officials noting that around 25–27 were on board but the precise count is still being determined.

According to ADG Agra Zone Anupama Kulshreshtha, rescue operations are underway, with 13 people rescued so far and 10 bodies recovered, including five men and five women. Search operations are ongoing for three to four more people still missing, with police, local divers, SDRF and NDRF teams conducting intensive underwater searches in the river. Officials have stated that the river’s strong current and possible overloading of the vessel are being examined as contributing factors, though the final probe is yet to be completed.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the incident, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and directed officials to rush to the site to expedite relief operations. Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Case: Allahabad HC orders for ASI survey of Shahi Idgah of Mathura

Allahabad High Court’s decision has come in the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple case of Mathura. On the dispute between Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple and Shahi Idgah Mosque located in Mathura, the court has approved the survey at the disputed site of Shahi Idgah Mosque. The court has also approved the demand to get the survey of the disputed land done through the Advocate Commissioner.

Allahabad High Court, while giving its verdict on Thursday, has approved the petition of the Hindu side. In this case, the single bench of Justice Mayank Kumar Jain has given its verdict at around 2 pm. In its decision, on the lines of Gyanvapi dispute, the court has also ordered a survey of the disputed premises of Mathura to be conducted through the Advocate Commissioner.

The petition was filed by Lord Shri Krishna Virajman and seven others through advocates Harishankar Jain, Vishnu Shankar Jain, Prabhash Pandey and Devaki Nandan. In which it has been claimed that the birthplace of Lord Krishna is present below that mosque and there are many signs which prove that that mosque is a Hindu temple.

According to Hindu side’s lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain, the petition claimed that there is a lotus-shaped pillar which is a feature of Hindu temples and a replica of Sheshnag, one of the Hindu deities who appeared on the night of Lord Shiva’s birth. Had protected Krishna.

The petitioners have requested that a commission be constituted with specific instructions to submit its report after the survey within the stipulated time limit. 19-year-old UP law student kills herself after being gangraped for a month

According to a report by Times of India, a 19-year-old Uttar Pradesh law student was kidnapped, gang-raped by three men, and then blackmailed for a month. Reportedly, she approached the police but no action was taken. Afterwards, she killed herself on November 16.

The police came into action after the day she committed suicide and made an arrest as well as suspended two cops involved in the investigation.

Times of India reported, “On October 3, the woman had filed a complaint against the main accused, Mohd Qamruddin, for harassing and threatening her,” said Bulandshahr SSP Santosh Singh. “However, in the court statement taken under Section 164 of the CrPC (which lays down the rules for recording statements and confessions), she went back on what she had initially said. A final report was filed, exonerating the alleged harasser.”

In the suicide note found on Monday, she wrote he had apologized for his behavior and that’s why she did not press charges initially.

On October 16, Qamruddin asked her to come to meet him at 4 am outside her village, the note said. Eight days on, she filed another complaint, naming Qamruddin, his uncle Mubeen and friend Mohd Abrar. “In that statement, she said she had been taken away to a house in Aligarh and gang-raped by the three men,” Singh said. An FIR was filed that day, October 24, for gang-rape.

Times of India further reported, “The note said they left her by the road after raping her. They had shot a video of her being raped and they threatened to ‘make it go viral’ if she pursued her complaint.”
