Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the Mahindra Group, is facing a lawsuit in Kanpur after a man claimed that misleading safety promises led to his son’s death. The case was initiated when Rajesh Mishra, who lost his son Dr. Apoorv Mishra in a car accident on January 14, 2022, petitioned a local court to file an FIR. The FIR was lodged at the Raipurwa police station in Kanpur on Saturday, with Anand Gopal Mahindra, the manager of the car dealership, among those named.

According to Rajesh Mishra’s complaint, he purchased a Black Mahindra Scorpio SUV for Rs 17.39 lakh on December 2, 2020. He claims to have been influenced by Anand Mahindra’s advertisements and social media posts. The vehicle was gifted to his only son, with safety assurances from the advertisements playing a significant role in the purchase decision. On January 14, 2022, Dr. Apoorv and his friends were returning to Kanpur from Lucknow in the car when they met with an accident due to fog. Despite wearing seat belts, the airbags did not deploy during the accident, leading to Dr. Apoorv’s death. The complaint also alleges that there were no airbags in the car.

The case has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 420 (cheating), 287 (Negligent conduct with respect to machinery), 304-A (causing death by negligence), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 102-B (criminal intimidation). SHO Aman Singh of Raipurwa has stated that an investigation into the case has begun and further action will be taken based on its findings.

The duo talked about improving and resolving issues related to healthcare facilities for children around the globe. The cricketer has been working actively in providing proper education and healthcare to children through the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation. Further, he has admitted that he and Gates have agreed upon a meaningful partnership for this initiative.

Apart from Tendulkar, his wife is an inspiration since she sacrificed her career to raise their kids while the cricketer was off on tours. The cricketer himself revealed this during an interview, showering praises for his wife. He had told that Mrs. Tendulkar was outstanding in her profession, and also being a gold medalist, she had major dreams just like any competitor in the world. However, she sacrificed her dreams to take care of their kids, namely Sara Tendulkar and Arjun Tendulkar, the legend added. “It wasn’t an easy thing to do, but Anjali managed to pull it off for the sake of her family”.

This coming together of two industry leaders is to further enhance the manufacturing capabilities to meet demand and utilize Mahindra Group’s robust supply chain to reach newer centres in the country,” says Naveen Munjal, MD, Hero Electric.

The long-term partnership will also see both the companies make the most out of each other’s deep knowledge of EVs and drive new product development in the next few years. We look forward to creating more synergies with them in the near future,” he further added.

The collaborating efforts will be a key factor in flourishing the platform approach to help electrification of the Peugeot Motorcycles portfolio. This is expected to add a major value to both entities through optimization of costs, timelines, and shared resources in this dynamic, rapidly growing global EV environment.

Owing to the ease in COVID-19 related restrictions and the gradual rise in the rate of domestic travel, MHRIL also posted a consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs. 28.7 crores

Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India on Friday, October 22, announced its performance metrics for the second quarter of the current fiscal year. It reported an over 139 per cent increase in its combined net profits at Rs. 59.76 crores for the quarter ending September 30.

Owing to the ease in COVID-19 related restrictions and the gradual rise in the rate of domestic travel, the company also posted a consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs. 28.7 crores during the quarter under review.

Disclosing the quarterly results in a regulatory filing to the board, Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Ltd.’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kavinder Singh revealed that the company’s performance even surpassed that of pre-pandemic levels during the Q2FY22.

He credited this achievement to MHRIL’s commitment to increasing operations at its resort locations after the second wave of COVID-19 with “world-class safety and hygiene protocols.”

Meanwhile, overall revenue from operations during the Q2FY22 stood at Rs. 546.40 crore, a rise of 13.51 per cent from the Rs. 481.37 crore reported during the same quarter last year.

On the resort operational front, MHRIL reported that it has amassed 3,943 new memberships as compared to 2,681 membership additions during the corresponding quarter last year. Moreover, the operational occupancies of its total room inventory of 4,233 rooms across 78 resort locations rose to 73 per cent during the July-September quarter.

MHRIL’s operations in Europe have also seen an improvement due to widespread vaccine rollout and easing travel restrictions, Kavinder Singh stated.

The CEO asserted that MHRIL’s resilient business model and its increased focus on improving member experience has helped the company achieve higher operational results across all its operating locations.

“With the onset of the summer holiday season and domestic leisure travel gaining momentum, Holiday Club Resorts delivered significant improvements in performance with profit before tax of euro 2.45 million this quarter,” he added.

A parody version of a Valentine’s Day inspired advertisement was showcased on the American late-night talk show hosted by Jimmy...

A parody version of a Valentine’s Day inspired advertisement was showcased on the American late-night talk show hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

Yesterday, the Chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra shared the comical Covid-19 vaccine advertisement video and tagged the Chief Executive Officer of Pune-based Serum Institute of India jokingly pointing out that he needn’t have another advertisement made.

The tweet stated – “Hilarious. ⁦@adarpoonawalla you have a readymade advertising brief. Vaccines are forever…”

https://twitter.com/anandmahindra/status/1359876941218803713

The advertisement is hilariously titled ‘one shot at the perfect gift’ for Valentine’s Day and shows a man proposing to his partner. When the man opens the ring case, instead of a ring, the box contains a vial of the Pfizer vaccine.

Mimicking major diamond ring advertisements, the narrator says, “don’t just be her somebody, be her anti-body,” and then tells the viewers to “inoculate yourself with COVID-19 vaccine.”

The video shared by Anand Mahindra has since been replayed over 110,000 times on Twitter and has 4800+ likes and 500+ retweets.

Anand Mahindra has a reputation for being funny and making comical statements in interviews and on his various social media handles.

The stocks of Indian firm Mahindra & Mahindra reached their 52-week high of Rs 992 after rising over 19% in...

The stocks of Indian firm Mahindra & Mahindra reached their 52-week high of Rs 992 after rising over 19% in the last 4 days since the Union Budget announcement. This rally has been credited to the sharp increase in tractor sales volume.

Mahindra & Mahindra sold nearly 35,000 units in January 2021, which was 50% higher than the sales volume in January 2020.

With an overall increase in the amount of land over which the rabi crop is planted, the tractor demand has become stronger. Another reason is that this year the water supply has been strong with very high reservoir levels which have enabled higher liquidity to the farmers.

The company reckons that the demand will remain consistently strong due to these factors.

In November, the farm had stated that it was launching a new tractor series called the ‘K2’ through its Farm Equipment Sector (FES), which will only be produced at the company’s tractor manufacturing facility at Zaheerabad in Telangana.

The company had stated, “The new K2 series is Mahindra’s most ambitious light-weight tractor program. K2 will bring incremental investments of Rs 100 crore into Mahindra’s Zaheerabad facility and double employment in the tractor plant by 2024.”

M&M share price was trading at Rs 864.60, which was up by 3.77% intraday.

The much-awaited joint venture between Mahindra & Mahindra and Ford Motor Company has been called off due to significant changes...

The much-awaited joint venture between Mahindra & Mahindra and Ford Motor Company has been called off due to significant changes in the global business environment due to COVID-19 pandemic. The decision follows the passing of the December 31 “longstop,” or expiration, date of a definitive agreement the organizations entered into in October 2019.

The statement from the company said, “Ford Motor and Mahindra & Mahindra have mutually and amicably determined they will not complete a previously announced automotive joint venture between their respective companies.”

According to the companies, the decision to call off the JV “was driven by fundamental changes in global economic and business conditions – caused, in part, by the global pandemic – over the past 15 months. Those changes influenced separate decisions by Ford and Mahindra to reassess their respective capital allocation priorities.”

In a statement to Bombay Stock Exchange, Mahindra & Mahindra said “This decision will not have any impact on its product plan. It is well-positioned in its core true SUV DNA and product platforms with a strong focus on financial performance. In addition, Mahindra is accelerating its efforts to establish leadership in electric SUVs.”

Ford Motor in a statement said, ” We are actively evaluating the business around the world, including in India, making choices and allocating capital in ways that advance Ford’s plan to achieve an 8% company adjusted EBIT margin and generate consistently strong adjusted free cash flow.”

“The company has set its sight on developing and delivering high-quality, high-value, connected vehicles – increasingly electric vehicles – and services that are affordable to an even broader range of customers and profitable for Ford” it added.

The Background:

On October 1, 2019, both brands had signed an agreement in Mumbai to create a joint venture that will develop, market and distribute Ford vehicles in India along with Ford and Mahindra vehicles in high-growth emerging markets overseas. The JV (joint venture) was going to see Mahindra having the 51% controlling stake and 51% of the equity share capital of Ardour Automotive Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company (“NewCo”) in India and Ford owning the balance 49% equity shareholding in NewCo. Ford was going to transfer its India operations to the JV, including its personnel and assembly plants in Chennai and Sanand. Ford was to retain the Ford engine plant operations in Sanand as well as the Global Business Services unit, Ford Credit and Ford Smart Mobility.

The enterprise value of those assets was pegged at Rs 1,925 crores. After adjusting for FIPL’s debt of Rs 636 crore, which the new company will assume, Ford and Mahindra were to pay the remaining Rs 1,289 crore in cash. Mahindra will pay 51% of this, which comes to Rs 657 crore and Ford will foot the remaining capital in the new entity.

The JV was planned to be the next step in the strategic alliance forged between both brands back in September 2017 and aimed at exploiting new mobility opportunities, among other things.

Future Plans:

In its official statement in the US, Ford said its independent operations in India will continue as is.

Ford likely to enter into contract manufacturing arrangement with Mahindra for future products.

Mahindra and Ford have been in talks for over three years now and have previously signed several agreements, including ones to co-develop an SUV and connected vehicles technology, and sharing engines.

The agreements to share BS-VI petrol engines and C segment SUV have already been formalized. The project W605 – C SUV for Ford based on the new generation Mahindra XUV platform has already been kicked off and is likely to hit the roads by end of 2022 and both Mahindra and Ford have actively negotiated the joint B SUV project called B772 including an electric vehicle.

Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd (M&M) is designing plans to take 10 of its most promising units public in the next...

Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd (M&M) is designing plans to take 10 of its most promising units public in the next 5-7 years as the automobiles-to-software conglomerate has set its goal to unlock maximum value in these units by involving new investors. M&M has identified the 10 companies, across sectors such as mobility, clean energy, rural, financial services, infrastructure and technology, to chart the course of the future growth of the group, Anish Shah, group chief financial officer and deputy managing director at M&M, said in an interview.

The 10 units identified by Mahindra and Mahindra include cleantech firm Mahindra Susten, diesel generator maker Mahindra Powerol, electrical steel processor Mahindra Accelo and supply-chain consultant Bristlecone. Classic Legends Pvt. Ltd, the maker of Jawa Motorcycles; Mahindra Electric Mobility, the maker of the Reva electric car and used-car seller First Choice Wheels are also among the 10 companies that will make its shares available to the public for the first time.

These 10 gems were identified as part of M&M’s strategic plan to ensure 18% return on equity (RoE) across all business units in the mid-term, he said. To meet this goal, the company is to sell loss-making units including SsangYong Motor Co, the US-based electric bike startup GenZe and Australia-based small aircraft maker GippsAero Pty Ltd.

“We would expect 2-3 businesses to IPO in the next 2-3 years; some will go public in 3-5 years and others in 5-7 years,” Shah said. “While their (10 gems) contribution to M&M’s overall revenues is low, currently, their cumulative revenues are more than ₹10,000 crore, which is not a small amount. So, these are all entities that have a reasonable size as of today. This is in addition to the fact that they are doing well in their respective industries,” Shah said.

“They are positioned well, they have shown a strong ability to execute and deliver profits, and many of them are profitable and are generating cash. Many of them will not require more cash from the parent to grow,” he further added.

Shah will succeed the current managing director and chief executive officer Pawan Goenka in April.

Sensex, Nifty close at new highs today. Benchmark equity indices showed a quick recovery in the latter part of the session on Wednesday to end at record highs with banks, financials and auto stocks occupying the top layer. Sensex added 227 points to close at 44,180, while Nifty locked in 0.5% higher at 12,938. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) was the biggest gainer, soaring up 11%, while Bajaj Finserv closed around 7% higher and HUL lagged behind. On the Sensex, 15 stocks advanced and an equal number declined. On Nifty, 26 shares stepped up and 24 slid down. Mid-cap and small-cap stocks were the special highlights in trade today.

Shares of Lakshmi Vilas Bank were stuck at the 20% lower circuit, fearing that shareholders may lose their equity value if the Reserve Bank of Bank’s proposal to merge LVB with DBS India goes through. BSE benchmark Sensex boomeranged back after a day’s low following a rally in select private lenders. HDFC twins, Axis Bank and IndusInd Bank shares sped up after the SC deferred moratorium hearing to November 19. HDFC Bank stock also hit 52-week high along with Adani Gas and Tata Motors.

The top gainers were Adani Gas Limited, SpiceJet Limited, Hatsun Agro Products Limited, WABCO India Limited and M&M Limited. The top losers were Astral Poly Technik Limited, Thyrocare technologies Limited, Just Dial Limited, NDR Auto Components Limited, Mas Financial Services Limited. Shares of M&M secured more gains for the third straight session on Wednesday after the company on Tuesday announced it will manufacture its new tractor series K2 exclusively at its Zaheerabad facility in Telangana, where it will bring incremental investments of Rs 100 crore and double employment in the plant by 2024.

RIL, IT and FMCG stocks kept gains in check. BSE Auto, Capital Goods paced up over 3% each and SpiceJet shares increased 13% on HSBC upgrade. ONGC has not budged since results were announced last week and only declined as much as 45% since its pre-COVID-19 high.

“The markets opened on a flat note and after a knee jark movement down continued to trade in the green rest of the day. We view 12,930-12,950 as a potential supply zone and the market is currently trading near to it. While technical evidence from momentum indicators like RSI, MACD is not supporting the rally and cyclically market is about to enter into a corrective phase, the investor should use the rally to scale down their position gradually. On the downside, 12770-12790 is likely to act as a support zone” as opined by Ashis Biswas, CapitalVia Global Research Limited.
