Shiv Sena Majority Case: ECI asks for evidence from Thackeray & Shinde

Shiv Sena Majority Case: The Election Commission of India on Saturday asked the new rivalries faction in Maharashtra Government to submit ‘documentary evidence’ in order to prove their majority in the Shiv Sena party.

Both the groups of the party, the Thackeray faction and the Shinde faction approached the poll body to claim their stake over Shiv Sena. Moreover, the dispute to assert control over the party reached the ECI after both sides wrote to the Commission. ECI has directed both groups to prove their majority in the Sena party by providing documentary evidence.

Additionally, The ECI also sent to the Thackeray camp the letter written to EC by the Shinde faction and the Thackeray camp’s letter to the Shinde faction, asking for responses by August 8 from both camps. After receiving responses from both sides, the polling body would hear the allegations made by each camp.

In June 2022, the Shinde group revolted against then sitting CM Uddhav Thackeray and his associates. Which led to the fall of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (Congress-Shiv Sena-NCP) government in the state. Thus, out of the 55 Shiv Sena MLAs, 40 are members of the Shinde faction, which came to power with the help of the Bharatiya Janata Party. It has urged the poll authority to grant the faction the bow and arrow election symbol and asked the ECI to recognise the faction as the “real” Shiv Sena.

Maharashtra’s political crisis continues to take many turns and create turmoils as yet another shock came to the Thackeray group in the Parliament when the Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, accepted the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde’s demand to change the party leader in the House on Tuesday. Hence, now Rahul Shewale will be serving as the party’s house leader.

Uddhav Thackeray resigns as Maharashtra Chief Minister ahead of floor test

Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has officially resigned from his post as the Chief Minister of the State of Maharashtra ending his tenure voluntarily. He was the 19th Chief Minister of Maharashtra who served from November 2019 to June 2022.

In his statement, Uddhav Thackeray said, “I am resigning as the Chief Minister. I am not the one to be scared, but rather than spilling blood of the Shiv Sainiks on the streets, I will step down”.

“I don’t care for the post, I care for support of my Shiv Sainiks”. Says Uddhav”

The Supreme Court has clearly said in its decision that Maharashtra’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government will have to face a floor test in the Assembly scheduled on Thursday which is tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s floor test would have ended Uddhav Thackeray’s tenure involuntarily. Since, there was a confirmed 2/3rd majority against his government. Which would have dissolved his established administration forcing him out of power.

Inheriting power from his father the founder of Shiv Sena, Bal Keshav Thackeray, Uddhav Thackeray became the President of the party and still holds the position as President.

It seems that an abdication was better a victory for Uddhav Thackeray who has informed that his duty to the people will continue.

Eknath Shinde Faction will return to Maharashtra tomorrow for floor test

Eknath Shinde, while departing from Guwahati, told the media he will reach Mumbai tomorrow and will be present in the floor test.

Maharashtra governor, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, had ordered a floor test for the Uddhav Thackeray government in the state assembly tomorrow. In response to this, Uddhav Thackeray moved to the Supreme Court against the the directive of the Maharashtra governor

The order of the floor test came after Devendra Fadnavis and 7 Independent MLAs put forth this demand citing the decision of the 39 Shiv Sena MLAs along with Eknath Shinde to withdraw support from the Uddhav Thackeray led government.

According to Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, the lawyer for Uddhav camp, the Maharashtra Governor is acting ‘hastily’ by calling the floor test tomorrow. ‘Only 24 hours have been given to prove the majority’, he says. Singhvi argues that the floor test should be postponed Until July 11 after the disqualification petition against the rebel MLAs comes into effect.

Eknath Shinde, while departing from Guwahati, spoke to the media and said, “We are leaving. We will reach Mumbai tomorrow and will be present in the floor test. The Supreme Court’s decision will come, whatever it is, we will respect it.”

After the conclusion of the hearing, the SC decided that the Floor test will happen tomorrow as scheduled.

Shiv Sena MLA alleges abduction, private plane pictures prove otherwise

MVA crisis: As the political landscape in Maharashtra gets more dramatic from betrayal to abandonment, turmoil grows stronger. Shiv Sena MLA, Nitin Deshmukh had alleged that he was forcibly “abducted” and taken to Surat. And that he requested Shinde to send him back to Mumbai after it became clear to him “there was a plot against our government”. While talking to the media, the Sena MLA from Maharashtra’s Balapur constituency said that. He kept walking on a highway to escape the “abduction” but was caught by Surat police.

In a bid to reject his abduction claims, the rebel MLAs on Thursday. Released pictures of Nitin Deshmukh with other rebels. One of the two pictures, Deshmukh is sitting with other Sena MLAs in a chartered plane. In the second photograph, Deshmukh can be seen posing in front of a camera. For a selfie with his other colleagues. The pictures seem to be pretty self explanatory in a clearly indicating that the rebel MLAs did not make Deshmukh do anything “forcibly”.

It is speculated that the pictures were taken during Deshmukh’s journey from Surat to Guwahati. From where he returned to Mumbai within hours.

In one of his previous statements to fit the narrative of his alleged abduction, Deshmukh had said. ““I appeal to Eknath Shinde and others to come back. The BJP is plotting against Shiv Sena through you. But do not fall prey to it. Balasaheb, Uddhav Ji and Shiv Sena have given you all everything.”

TMC workers detained outside Eknath Shinde’s Radisson Blu camp

Guwahati, June 23: Several TMC members and workers of the Assam unit led by state president Ripun Bora were detained for staging a protest outside Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati where rebel Maharashtra MLAs, including Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde, are staying.

They have accused the BJP of hosting the ‘sale’ of MLAs amid Assam floods.

The protest was led by TMC’s state president Ripun Bora. Assam cops have removed Ripun Bora from the protest site outside Radisson Blu along with other TMC protesters.

Bora blamed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for facilitating dissidents. From Maharashtra when people were dying in the devastating floods in Assam.

Earlier in the day, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi. Also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the PM should visit the state and announce a special package.

He said that the PM is busy toppling the Maharashtra government and. Also with the Gujarat elections at a time when floods have hit the state.

3 more Shiv Sena MLAs join Eknath Shinde’s camp in Guwahati

Guwahati, June 23: As the political temperature soars over the crisis in Maharashtra politics. Three more MLAs have reportedly joined the Eknath Shinde camp on Thursday at the Radisson Blu hotel in Guwahati.

The Shinde camp is now claiming that it has support of 37 MLAs. Amid the escalating political crisis in Maharashtra. A resolution passed by the Shiv Sena Legislature Party carrying signatures of 34 MLAs that rebel leader Eknath Shinde continues to be the leader. Has been sent to the state Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

Following the political crisis, Shiv Sena had removed Eknath Shinde. As the party’s legislative party leader. However, the rebels have hit back with the resolution.

Meanwhile, chief minister Uddhav Thackrey on Wednesday night vacated his official residence ‘Varsha’ and said that he was ready to quit as CM, but the rebel MLAs must come and tell him on his face that they did not have the trust in him.

The political crisis facing the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra deepened on Wednesday. After rebel Shinde claimed the support of 46 MLAs.

MVA crises updates: The MVA coalition is in the midst of a very public political turmoil. With Eknath Shinde at the epicenter.

Admist the ongoing disagreements, Aaditya Thackeray took to Twitter to drop the word ‘Minister’ from his Twitter bio. Hence, sparking speculations of whether Shiv Sena is giving up mid crisis. It is not known whether it is a conciliatory gesture to the rebel MLAs who have a problem with his rise to power. Or whether it’s a stoic acceptance of things to come. Since there is no official reason behind Thackeray’s move, one can only wait for further updates to gain some clarity.

In other updates, Eknath Shinde, the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs and some Independent MLAs. Who were staying at Le Meridien hotel in Surat, reached Guwahati in the early hours of Wednesday. It’s now a full-blown crisis for the the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra. Moreover, with Shinde – clearly hosted by the BJP – is gathering momentum.

Shiv Sena leaders are trying to deal with the crisis in a more conciliatory manner with Uddhav Thackeray apparently having a 20 minute long phone call with Eknath Shinde, convincing him to come back to Shiv Sena. Whereas Eknath Shinde, upon landing in Guwahati, told reporters there were 40 MLAs present along with him. Who would “carry forward Balasaheb Thackeray’s Hindutva”.

Security tightens around Shiv Sena Leader Eknath Shinde’s bungalow

Thane (Maharashtra), June 21: Following a major political development in the state. Security on Tuesday was stepped up outside the bungalow. Of city of guardian minister, Eknath Shinde.

The step comes close on the heels of the MLC results following. Which Urban Development Minister Shinde along with a host of MLAs rushed to Surat in the BJP-ruled state of Gujarat.

Shinde is likely to address media from Surat at around 2 pm, sources said.

The BJP won five seats in the MLC election with Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party bagging two each. BJP managed to win big in the MLC polls despite being short in numbers.

There are 106 BJP MLAs in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. The speculation is either its remaining votes have come from Independent MLAs, or from small parties or other parties.

Maharashtra Chief Minister and Sena president Uddhav Thackeray called an urgent meeting of all party MLAs on Tuesday noon.

Mumbai, June 21: The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government could be facing a major political crisis after Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde took 32 MLAs to camp in Surat, Gujarat — a BJP-ruled state.

The state Urban Development Minister is said to be in a hotel in Surat with his 32 MLAs, and Shinde is “not reachable”.

The MLAs who have decided to support Shinde, include Mahendra Thorve, Bharat Gogavale, Mahesh Shinde. Vishwanath Bhoir, Dnyanraj Chowgule, Sanjay Rathod, Srinivas Vanaga, Sanjay Gaikwad and Sanjay Raimulkar.

Minister of State Abdul Sattar, Balaji Kinikar, Shantaram More, Anil Babar, Tanaji Sawant and Sanjay Shirsath are also with Shinde.

Thirteen votes of the Shiv Sena were split in the Legislative Council results that were declared Monday night. Both Sena candidates Sachin Ahir and Amashya Padvi had won by a landslide. Shinde has been missing in action since.

Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) calls for ‘Maharashtra Bandh’ on October 11 in protest of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Congress Party, and Shiv Sena, the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, declared a Maharastra bandh on October 11 to protest the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and ordered the detention of the accused, NCP state chief Jayant Patil declared on Wednesday.

“Maha Vikas Aghadi declares a statewide bandh on October 11 against the Lakhimpur Kheri incident,” Minister and NCP leader Jayant Patil said. Providing further details, Maharashtra Minister and NCP leader Jayant Patil revealed the state cabinet has displayed sorrow over the Lakhimpur incident and remembered those who lost their lives during the incident.

On Sunday, eight people lost their lives in the clash that emerged amid the farmers’ protest in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. The farmers had gathered to oppose Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s trip to Banbirpur.

Banbirpur is the native place of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra Teni, the MP from Lakhimpur Kheri. The episode happened in Tikunia village, linked to Banbirpur by a road that protesting farmers occupied. The farmers’ bodies alleged that four farmers identified as Nakshatra Singh (55), Daljeet Singh (35), Lavepreet Singh (20), and Gurvendra Singh (18) perished as vehicles knocked the protesters down on the Tikunia-Banbirpur road.

The other four deaths were from the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) camp. They were travelling in a car and were supposedly pulled out of the vehicle and mobbed by the protesters.
