Hindustan Aeronautics appoints Kota Ravi as Chairman and Managing Director

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has announced the appointment of Shri Kota Ravi as the new Chairman and Managing Director, effective 1st May 2026. This decision was made by the Board of Directors based on a directive from the Ministry of Defence, Department of Defence Production, Government of India.

Shri Kota Ravi, who previously served as Director (Operations) at HAL, will now lead the company in its global ambitions and transformation into a competitive aerospace and defence enterprise. His appointment is set to last until his superannuation on 30th June 2029, or until further orders from the Ministry of Defence, whichever comes earlier. His remuneration will be within the pay scale of ₹2,00,000 – ₹3,70,000 (IDA).

Kota Ravi is not related to any other director of the company and has affirmed that he is not debarred from holding the office of director by any SEBI order or similar authority.

With over 30 years of experience in the aerospace and defence sector, Ravi has held significant roles, including Executive Director and General Manager of the LCA Tejas Division. He has been instrumental in securing major contracts for HAL, such as the supply of 180 LCA Tejas aircraft to the Indian Air Force and 156 LCH Prachand helicopters to the Indian Army and Air Force.

Ravi’s leadership has been pivotal in enhancing HAL’s indigenous capabilities, increasing local content in the LCA Tejas programme, and expanding production capacity. His strategic initiatives have also diversified HAL into civil manufacturing and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, thereby opening new revenue streams.

An alumnus of Malnad College of Engineering, Karnataka, IIM Ahmedabad, and IAS Toulouse, France, Kota Ravi also serves as a Nominee Director on the board of Multi-Role Transport Aircraft Ltd.
