KP Energy shares jump over 2% after KP Group signs major renewable energy MoU with Botswana government

Shares of K.P. Energy moved over 2% higher after KP Group announced a significant international development in the renewable energy space. The company has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Botswana to jointly develop large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage, and transmission infrastructure in the country.

The MoU has been signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, which includes KPI Green Energy Limited, KP Energy Limited, and KP Green Engineering Limited. This agreement marks an important step in KP Group’s global expansion strategy and supports Botswana’s long-term goal of becoming a net-zero country by 2030.

Under the framework of the MoU, both parties will collaborate on the planning, development, and execution of renewable energy projects aimed at strengthening Botswana’s energy security and positioning the country as a clean power exporter in the Southern African region. The proposed projects are expected to require a capital investment of around $4 billion (approximately ₹36,000 crore) and could help scale Botswana’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 GW over time.

The collaboration also includes the development and upgradation of high-voltage transmission infrastructure within Botswana, along with enhanced interconnections with neighbouring countries to enable regional power transmission and cross-border electricity trade. This infrastructure push is expected to play a key role in supporting large-scale renewable integration.

As part of the agreement, KP Group will lead the technical and commercial development of the projects, covering feasibility studies, project design, financing, construction, commissioning, and long-term operations and maintenance of renewable energy and storage assets.

In addition to infrastructure development, the MoU places a strong emphasis on capacity building and skill development. KP Group will support 30 scholarships every year for citizens of Botswana in fields related to renewable energy, engineering, sustainability, and allied disciplines. This initiative is aimed at knowledge transfer and empowering local talent to participate in Botswana’s clean energy transition.
