Prashant Kishor has shifted his base from his central Patna residence to the newly constructed Bihar Nav Nirman Ashram in Bihta following a setback in the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, signalling a long-term political and organisational push for his party, Jan Suraaj.

According to party leaders and aides close to Kishor, the Jan Suraaj founder has decided to stay and operate continuously from the ashram for the next five years as part of a renewed grassroots campaign aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the 2030 Bihar Assembly elections.

The Bihar Nav Nirman Ashram, located in Bihta on the outskirts of Patna, has been developed as a political and organisational centre where Jan Suraaj workers, volunteers and supporters are expected to conduct training sessions, strategy meetings and public outreach programmes over the coming years.

Sources within Jan Suraaj said Kishor believes the party needs deeper engagement at the village and block levels after its disappointing electoral performance in the 2025 Assembly elections. The move is being viewed within political circles as an attempt to project commitment to long-term grassroots politics rather than conventional election-centric campaigning.

Prashant Kishor, who earlier worked as an election strategist for several major political parties across India before launching Jan Suraaj, has repeatedly stated that Bihar requires structural political and administrative reforms focused on education, employment, healthcare and governance.

Party officials said the decision to move to Bihta is symbolic of a “people-centric political model” where leadership remains directly connected with workers and local communities instead of functioning primarily from urban political centres.

The Jan Suraaj campaign initially began as a statewide padyatra led by Kishor across Bihar before evolving into a formal political movement. Over the past few years, the organisation has attempted to position itself as an alternative to established political alliances dominated by parties such as the Bharatiya Janata Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Janata Dal (United).

Despite attracting attention during its campaigns and outreach drives, Jan Suraaj faced challenges in converting public support into significant electoral gains during the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls.

Political observers say Kishor’s decision to remain based in the ashram until 2030 reflects an effort to build a sustained cadre-based structure across Bihar rather than relying solely on campaign momentum during elections.

Supporters gathered at the Bihta campus welcomed Kishor’s move, calling it the beginning of a renewed organisational phase for Jan Suraaj in Bihar politics.
