New Delhi, Oct 25 : Appreciating India’s support against military operations against Hamas in Gaza, Israeli ambassador Naor Gilon on Wednesday said that all the countries against terrorism are with Israel.

“Those who are against terrorism and see Israel as fighting terrorism are with us. Those who felt uncomfortable (are) not with us because they were not with us also to start with,” Gilon said here today during a press conference.

The Israeli ambassador said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first world leaders to condemn Hamas’s attack on Israel early this month.

Gilon termed India as a very important moral voice in the world and said that most key countries are with Israel in the fight against Hamas.

Emphasizing the need to destroy and dismantle Hamas, the ambassador said that if it seemed that Hamas is winning against Israel there would be the risk of unrest caused by other terrorist oganisations.

“Which is why Hamas needs to be stopped,” he said.

Gilon noted that Israel was determined to finish Hamas as it was important for its survival in the Middle East.

Following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, Israel has launched full-scale war against the militant organisation and has been conducting targeted air strikes in Gaza. It is also preparing for ground operations and could enter the Hamas-controlled territory anytime soon.

Earlier, on October 19, PM Modi had a talk with Palestinian President, after which PM Modi wrote on X: “Spoke to the President of the Palestinian Authority H.E. Mahmoud Abbas. Egyptian President calls for work to restore peace process in Middle East

Cairo, Oct 21 : Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday called for work on a roadmap to restore a peace process in the Middle East, adding that it would bring an end to the humanitarian tragedy.

“I have urged you to work together to reach a consensus on a roadmap to end the current humanitarian tragedy and revitalize the peace process,” El-Sisi said during the Cairo Peace Summit.

The Palestinian issue could not be resolved without a fair decision, he said, adding that it also would not happen “at the expense of Egypt.” Cairo rejects the idea of the forced displacement of Palestinians, he stated.

“We condemn the strikes against all civilians,” El-Sisi said.

Jerusalem, Oct 21 : UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Saturday “the time has come for action” to put an end to the crisis in the Gaza Strip caused by the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

“The time has come for action. Action to end this God-awful nightmare. And actions to build the future worthy of the dreams of the children of Palestine, Israel, the region and our world,” Guterres said at the Cairo Peace Summit.

As Israeli airstrikes hit the Gaza Strip, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a smaller militant group allied to Hamas, fired several hundred rockets into the former’s civilian areas.

The State Department of the US on Saturday said that The US fully supported Israel’s right to defend itself and asked both sides to avoid escalation.

The clash between Israel and (PIJ) has cost the life of 24 Palestinians and 203 being wounded amid the two days of firing, according to the Health Ministry of Gaza.

The State Department also said that they are concerned by the death of civilians and called for “a timely and thorough” probe into those casualties.

PIJ had fired over 400 rockets at Israel which were mostly intercepted by the Israeli air defence system but set air raid sirens and sent people into bomb shelters. The Israeli ambulance service said that there were no casualties.

According to a report from Reuters, Egypt said that they were engaged in talks to defuse the situation and further escalation would depend on if Hamas join PIJ in the clash.

Egypt also has sent a delegation to mediate between the two fighting sides.

The clash between Israel and forces and Gaza has disrupted a year-long peace and Israel launched a surprise attack that killed a senior PIJ commander and claimed to hit other military targets.

Israel ceased the transport of fuel in the city right before it attacked on Friday. This led to the city’s lone power to operate at lower capacities and offer electricity for around 8 hours of a day.

Both sides have been quiet since May 2021 after 11 days of vicious attacks. The clash last year killed around 150 Palestinians and 13 Israelis.
