Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday revealed details of a high-level conversation with US President Donald Trump focused on Iran’s nuclear programme, security coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv, and the future of regional stability in the Middle East.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Netanyahu said he had spoken with Trump regarding efforts linked to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear activities.

Netanyahu stated that he expressed appreciation to Trump for what he described as the US President’s “unwavering commitment to Israel’s security,” including support during “Operation Roaring Lion” and “Epic Fury,” operations he claimed involved joint American and Israeli military coordination against Iranian threats.

“The partnership between us and our two countries has been proven on the battlefield and has never been stronger,” Netanyahu wrote.

The Israeli Prime Minister further claimed that both leaders agreed any future agreement with Iran must completely eliminate the nuclear threat posed by Tehran. According to Netanyahu, this would require dismantling Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities and removing enriched nuclear material from Iranian territory.

“My policy, like President Trump’s, remains unchanged: Iran will not have nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu said.

The statement comes amid heightened diplomatic activity surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme and growing international concern over regional security in the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz, referenced in Netanyahu’s remarks, remains one of the world’s most strategically important oil shipping routes and has repeatedly emerged as a flashpoint amid tensions involving Iran, Israel and Western powers.

Netanyahu also said Trump reaffirmed Israel’s right to defend itself “against threats on every front, including Lebanon,” an apparent reference to continuing tensions involving Hezbollah along Israel’s northern border.

The remarks come shortly after Trump publicly criticised the Obama-era Iran nuclear agreement and claimed his administration was pursuing a tougher and more comprehensive framework aimed at preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Trump earlier stated that ongoing negotiations with Tehran would not be rushed and that sanctions and restrictions would remain until a final agreement was reached.

Iran has consistently maintained that its nuclear programme is intended for peaceful civilian purposes, while the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Western governments have continued to monitor Tehran’s uranium enrichment activities closely.

The latest exchange between Trump and Netanyahu is expected to intensify global attention on the future of US-Iran negotiations, regional military alliances and the broader security situation across the Middle East.
