For the second time in a year, a new hack targets AIIMS Delhi

Fresh cyberattacks were launched on Monday against the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in New Delhi. According to the top medical facility, the malware assault attempt was effectively stopped and the danger was quickly neutralised.

The prestigious medical institute suffered service interruptions as a result of a cyberattack in November 2022, and this is the second hack against AIIMS Delhi in a year. Due to the hack, the medical center’s systems were rendered inoperable, and the AIIMS subsequently suspended two analysts for alleged cybersecurity violations.

As Delhi Police joined the inquiry alongside the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and National Informatics Centre (NIC), the hospital’s internet access remained disabled for a number of days. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) also went to the hospital and assisted the law enforcement authorities with their investigation.

Many services, especially those that relied on the internet, were disrupted as a result of the hack. The hospital started using Standard Operation Procedures (SoP) for its manual admission and discharge process.

Connections between China and Hong Kong :
According to the investigation of the AIIMS cyberattack, the servers that were exploited may have come from China and Hong Kong. Delhi has requested in writing that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) contact Interpol for more details.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) website was reportedly targeted 6,000 times by hackers, but they were unable to compromise it. The sources further stated that AIIMS was not the only target of cyberattacks as attempts at the servers of other prestigious organisations were also attempted.

Turkey neutralizes Interpol Red Notice terrorist Hamiyet Yalcinkaya

Ankara, Mar 11: Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said on Saturday that a top terrorist of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), a subject of an Interpol red notice for internationally wanted persons, Hamiyet Yalcinkaya, was neutralized.

“PKK top terrorist Hamiyet Yalcinkaya, wanted under an Interpol red notice, has been liquidated. Yalcinkaya, code-named ‘Leyla Amed,’ was considered by the terrorist organization to be ‘responsible’ for the Botan district,” Soylu said on Twitter.

Botan, also spelled Bohtan, is a region in southeast Turkey that used to be a Kurdish principality in the Ottoman Empire.

The armed conflict with the PKK began in Turkey in 1984 and resumed in 2015. The organization deployed some of its bases in northern Iraq, and the Turkish armed forces conducted air and ground operations targeting them.

PM Modi requests that Interpol issue Red Corner Notices against fugitives more quickly

Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged Interpol to expedite up the pace issuing Red Corner Notices against fugitive convicts in order to combat terrorism, corruption, and crime. The Prime Minister emphasised international collaboration in dealing with corrupt individuals who seek refuge in various locations throughout the world while addressing the 90th General Assembly of Interpol at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

In order to track down wanted fugitives who have fled the nation after committing crimes, Interpol issues Red Notices. A person listed in an Interpol notice may be detained or expelled by a member state.

“Yes, there are diverse legal and procedural frameworks to deal with them. However, there is a need for the global community to work even faster to eliminate safe havens. There can be no safe havens for the corrupt, terrorists, drug cartels, poaching gangs or organized crime,” Prime Minister Modi said.

He stated that dishonest people steal money from the needy to fund wicked activities like terrorism. Through the selling of illicit armaments, the dirty money weakens democracies and participates in actions like the smuggling of illegal drugs to endanger the lives of children.

India has issued 778 Red Notices, of which the CBI has issued 205. These notices have been issued against fugitives including Dawood Ibrahim and his assistant Chhota Shakeel, terrorists like Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed, and criminals in the financial world like Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, among others.

In view of the remarks made by Interpol Secretary General Jurgan Stock, who enumerated several restrictions on Red Corner Notices, the statement of Prime Minister Modi becomes weight.

“A Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant, and Interpol cannot force any member country to arrest an individual who is the subject of a Red Notice. It is not for Interpol to judge the merit of a case or a decision taken by national courts – that is a sovereign matter,” he had said in a press conference.

He argued that Interpol’s duty is to assess whether a request for a Red Notice is compliant with its charter and regulations.

“This means that we cannot accept a request if, for example, it is political, military, religious or racial in character, or is not in accordance with our Rules on the Processing of Data,” he had said.
