Five Indians suffer injuries after missile debris falls in Abu Dhabi’s KEZAD zone

Five Indian nationals were injured in Abu Dhabi when debris from a successfully intercepted ballistic missile fell on areas in and around the Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi, known as KEZAD, authorities confirmed. The Abu Dhabi Media Office issued a statement confirming the incident. They stated that the authorities had completed their follow-up investigation.

“The incident resulted in injuries to 5 individuals of Indian nationality, ranging from moderate to minor,” the statement said. It added that the injuries came directly from debris falling after air defense systems intercepted the missile. Authorities confirmed that the two fires reported at KEZAD were also caused by the falling debris from the interception. Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the affected areas to manage the fires and assist the injured. While the injuries were serious, they were described as moderate to minor, and there were no fatalities reported. All five injured individuals are Indian nationals.

This reflects the large Indian expatriate community that plays a key role in the UAE’s industrial and economic workforce, especially in free zone areas like KEZAD. KEZAD is one of the largest integrated trade and industrial zones in the region, home to hundreds of businesses and thousands of workers from various nationalities. The zone is vital to Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification strategy. UAE air defense systems have been on high alert recently due to regional tensions. Authorities have shown they can intercept incoming threats before they reach populated or industrial zones. The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi is closely monitoring the situation and keeping in touch with the injured nationals and their families. According to the airport authority, 53 Nepalis, 5 Indians, 4 Russians, 1 Irish, 2 Koreans, 1 Argentinian, and a French national were on board.

Yeti Airlines spokesperson Sudarshan Bartaula stated, “10 foreign nationals, including two infants, were on board.”

Following the crash of a passenger plane near Pokhara Airport, the Nepal government has called an emergency cabinet meeting.

“A total of 68 passengers and four crew members were on board the Yeti airlines aircraft that crashed between the old airport and the Pokhara International Airport,” Sudarshan Bartaula, spokesperson of Yeti Airlines was quoted by The Kathmandu Post as saying

India advises its stranded citizens to leave Kyiv urgently

The Indian embassy in its official statement mentioned that the Ukraine Railways will run special trains for safely evacuating Indians out of Kyiv. Earlier Indian embassy had asked Indians to leave Ukraine temporarily in its first directorate on 15th February.

Same-day in New Delhi addressing a press conference, Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) revealed that close to 2000 Indian nationals were in the capital city of Kyiv, these were mostly medical students studying in various universities in Ukraine.

In their Twitter post, the Indian Embassy urged all Indian nationals to immediately without any further delay to evacuate from Kyiv and other parts of the region ‘today’, by the special trains in operation by the Ukrainian railways or any other safe possible means.

On Tuesday the Indian embassy asked its nationals to urgently leave Kyiv as the Russian troops are coming straight to Kyiv in a heavily loaded military convoy including Russian tanks and other offensive equipment.

Arindam Bagchi also requested the Indian Nationals to move to the western region of Ukraine from Kyiv. Already 400 Indian students have been evacuated through Indian operations efforts.

India administers more than 2 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses in a single day to mark the birthday of PM Narendra Modi

Earlier in the morning, citizens of India were being requested by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to give an outstanding present to PM Modi by getting vaccinated on his birthday, it was also being told by Mansukh Mandaviya that free COVID-19 vaccines had been announced by PM to all the citizens.

It was already being told by the Senior leader of the party that “the day will be recorded in the nation’s history as the one that witnessed a record number of COVID-19 vaccines administered.”

Adding further Senior leader said, “With the world reeling under the aftermath of COVID-19, India strived to battle the pandemic, and this would also be a befitting reply to those who tried to create vaccine hesitancy in people for purely political reasons and thus endangered the lives of people.” It is also said that party chief JP Nadda wanted to celebrate Prime Minister’s birthday in a special way.

Former Union Minister and BJP leader Jaswant Singh passes away at 82

Former Union Minister and Ex-BJP Leader, Jaswant Singh passed away on September 27 at the age of 82 due to Cardiac Arrest at Army Hospital(R&R), Delhi Cantt. He was admitted on June 25th, 2020 and was being treated for Sepsis with Multiple Dysfunction Syndrome and effects of Severe Head Injury old(Optd) and suffered from a Cardiac Arrest this morning.

In 2019, about half of all foreign students in the US were Indians and Chinese

Chinese and Indians accounted for 48 per cent of all active foreign students in the US in 2019, according to an official report.

A report on immigration students in the US, released on Friday by the Student and Exchange Visitor Programme (SEVP) — a part of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — said there were 1.52 million active records in SEVIS for F-1 and M-1 students during the calendar year 2019, a 1.7 per cent decrease from 2018.

SEVIS is a web-based system for maintaining information on international nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors in the US.

While an F1 visa is issued to international students who are attending an academic programme or English language programme at a US college or university, M-1 visa is reserved for international students attending vocational schools and technical schools. Forty-eight per cent or 733,718 of all active SEVIS records hailed from either China (474,497) or India (249,221) in 2019, a slight increase from 47 per cent in the calendar year 2018, the report said.

While the overall number of active F-1 and M-1 student records coming from Asia decreased by 28,063 from 2018 to 2019, student record trends varied across different countries, it said.

The number of students from China and India made Asia the most popular continent of origin. Despite this, China sent fewer students in 2019 in comparison to 2018 (-4,235), as did India (-2,069), the report said.

According to the report, 75 per cent of all nonimmigrant students in the US call Asia home.

Some Asian countries like Qatar, Syria, and Yemen sent fewer students, while Azerbaijan, Cambodia and Kyrgyzstan sent more students in 2019.

The report noted that 49 per cent (671,731) of foreign students in 2019 were female, while 56 per cent (851,518) were male. Of K-12 student enrolments, 42.5 per cent or 33,759 were females in 2019.

It said 43.7 per cent (442,747) of bachelor’s and master’s nonimmigrant students, 48.4 per cent (52,017) seeking associate degrees and 39 per cent (73,301) seeking doctoral degrees in 2019 were females.

Of the top 10 countries of citizenship in 2019, the average female enrolment was 44 per cent (471,262) and the average male enrolment was 56 per cent (595,175), it said.

The report said Asia remains the number one continent of origin for nonimmigrant students with 1,137,419 student records, despite a 2.4 per cent (-28,063) decrease in the nonimmigrant student population from the continent.
