Few coaches of Delhi-Kamakhya train derail in Bihar’s Buxar

On Wednesday night, few coaches of Delhi-Kamakhya train got derailed in Bihar’s Buxar, said Ministry of Railway in a statement. The accident took place in Danapur division of Indian railway, near the Raghunathpur railway station.

North-east Express (12560) started from Delhi’s Anand Vihar Railway Station got derailed while on its way to Kamakhya around 9.35 pm near Bihar’s Buxar district. However, there is no report of any casualty yet.

As the train met with the accident in Bihar, the state’s Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has also ordered officials for speedy rescue work. In an X post, Tejashwi Yadav said: “On the sad incident of overturning of several bogies of North East Express going from Delhi to Guwahati in Buxar, I have instructed the Disaster Management Department, Health Department and district officials of Buxar and Bhojpur to reach the spot as soon as possible, speed up the relief and rescue work and make proper medical arrangements for the injured.”

RPF constable opens fire inside Jaipur Express Train

On Monday, a RPF constable opened fire inside a moving Jaipur Express Train after crossing the Palghar station. The constable shot dead an RPF ASI and three other passengers before jumping out of the train near Dahisar Station. According to sources, the accused has been arrested along with his weapon and DCP North GRP has also been informed.

The incident took place at around 5 am in the B5 coach of Jaipur Express between Vapi to Mira Road station. As per a statement by the police, the slain ASI has been identified as Tika Ram. The constable, who has been identified as Chetan, used his automatic weapon during escort duty to kill the RPF ASI and three passengers of the train.

According to the police statement,“It was reported on train no 12956 at 5.23 on 31.7.23 that there had been a firing in B5 coach. It was confirmed that CT Chetan in escort duty, had fired on escort incharge ASI Tika Ram.”

As per the Railways, the constable has been detained by the Mumbai Railway Police at the Bhayandar station. Palghar is nearly 100 kms away from Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Western Railway DRM Nirahj Verma said families of the four people shot have been contacted. He added that an ex-gratia will be given to the families.

Verma said,”We received the information that an RPF constable, who was on escort duty, opened fire. Four people were shot, one of them was an RPF ASI. We are providing all medical help and the families have been contacted. Ex-gratia will be given.”

Railways invest ₹1.08 trillion in safety measures from 2017-18 to 2021-22: Railway Minister

New Delhi: In a significant effort to bolster safety measures and enhance critical infrastructure, the Indian Railways has invested a staggering ₹1.08 trillion on Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh (RRSK) or rail safety-related works from 2017-18 to 2021-22. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed the substantial allocation in response to a question raised in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

The Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh (RRSK) was established in the fiscal year 2017-18 with a dedicated corpus of ₹1 trillion for executing safety works over a five-year period. The projects undertaken under this fund primarily focus on track renewal, bridges, signalling, rolling stock, training, and amenities for safety-critical staff. Funding for RRSK works is derived from Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) and Railways revenues or resources, including mobilization of resources through Extra Budgetary Resources (EBR), following guidelines set by the Ministry of Finance.

Additionally, the Railway Safety Fund (RSF) was initiated in 2001-02 to fund works related to level crossings and road over bridges and road under bridges. Over time, the scope of the RSF has expanded to include capital expenditure on various safety initiatives. For the last five years, both RRSK and RSF have been utilized to allocate funds for safety-related projects.

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the Railway’s commitment to safety, stating, “Apart from this capital expenditure from Gross Budgetary Support, DRF, and DF is made on safety-related works. Between FY 2014-15 and FY 2022-23, the total expenditure and BE for FY 2023-24 amount to ₹1.78 lakh crore on safety-related plan heads. This amount is about 2.5 times the amount spent on safety-related plan heads during FY 2004-05 to FY 2013-14 (₹70,274 crore).”

The railway minister further emphasized the commitment to safety by providing laptops and computers for safety-related track management systems applications. Moreover, the training of safety manpower has also been prioritized to ensure effective implementation of safety measures across the rail network.

Addressing concerns raised by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in its performance audit report of 2022 on “Derailment in Indian Railways,” which observed that some expenditures were booked to RRSK on non-priority items, Minister Vaishnaw assured that the railway authorities have responded to the audit observation in the Action Taken Note. He stated, “Railways has replied to the audit observation in the Action Taken Note, stating that these expenditures are covered by policy letters and technical report of CAMTECH on Running Room Facilities. Accordingly, required expenditure on equipment and gear for safety-critical staff has been booked to RRSK on some Railways.”

Central Railways AC local trains generate Rs 23.36 crore revenue in Q1

The Central Railways operated AC local trains have witnessed a significant rise in number of commuters , carrying a total of 49.47 lakh passengers between April 2023 and June 2023, the ministry of Railways said in its statement.

During the period between April and June 2023, the service added a revenue of Rs 23.36 crore, it added.

There are 56 AC services with 4 rakes on the suburban sections operated by Central Railways currently. The AC local trains have become immense popular among the passengers for its safety and more comfortable travel experience. The fares of AC services were reduced last year making it more viable option for passengers to opt.

Keeping in mind the needs of commuters, the railways introduced a provision that allows first class quarterly, half-yearly and yearly season ticket holders to commute through AC EMU trains by paying the fare difference in their existing tickets. This incentive allows passengers to enjoy AC travel experience over the course of entire season, regardless the remaining validity.

Central Railways is responsible for commute of over 40 lakh passengers on its suburban network. The network spans from CSMT to Kasara and Khopoli (main line), CSMT to Panvel and Goregaon (harbour line), Vashi to Thane and Panvel (trans-harbour line) and the newly commissioned Bamandongri-Belapur/ Seawood line.

IRCTC to launch a special train from Delhi for Char Dham Yatra

A special train has been launched for Char Dham Yatra by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on Saturday. Char Dham Yatra is a pilgrimage to four Hindu shrines of Badrinath, Jagannath Puri, Rameshwaram, and Dwarkadhish.

According to a report by Mint, it is a 16-day tour and pilgrims will travel around 8,500 km on this tour. It starts from Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station and will cover the visit to Haridwar, including Ganga ghat, temples and Ganga aarti. The train is air-conditioned and provides two types of accommodation—1st AC and 2nd AC. It has also other features like two fine dining restaurants, a modern kitchen, shower cubicles in coaches, sensor-based washroom functions, foot massager.

Pilgrims will visit a total of six districts and will offer their prayers to more than eight temples during their Char Dham Yatra. It includes the following places: In Rishikesh, they will visit Lakshman Jhulla and Triveni ghat whereas in Ayodhaya they will visit Ramjanam Bhoomi, Hanuman Garhi, Saryu Aarti and Nandigram.

While in Varanasi, there will be visits to Ganga Ghat aarti and the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and according to the visit in Puri, pilgrims will see the Jagannath temple, Golden Beach of Puri, Konark Sun Temple and Chandrabhaga Beach. The Rameshwaram visit will include Ramnathswami temple and Dhanushkodi, while in Dwarka, pilgrims will visit Dwarkadhish Temple, Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, Shivrajpur beach and Bet Dwarka.

However, the cost of this tour is Rs 78,585 per person. This package will cover train journey in AC class, accommodation in deluxe hotels, all meals, all transfer and sightseeing in AC vehicles except hilly areas, travel insurance and services of IRCTC Tour Managers.

Passengers from Delhi-NCR, Goa, Rajasthan, Kerala, Gujarat, and Uttarakhand to Maharashtra are now bound to carry their negative RT-PCR reports dated before 48 hours of traveling.

The Maharashtra government has categorized these six states keeping in view the gravity and sensitivity of the Coronavirus. Those states have been labeled as the ‘places of sensitive origin’ amid the recent surge in the Covid-19 cases in India.

Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte has issued an order in this regard. He said, “All passengers shall be compulsorily screened and only asymptomatic passengers shall be allowed to board the trains for Maharashtra. Social distancing should be ensured during boarding/deboarding and travel,” as quoted by ANI.

In addition to this, the order says that unreserved tickets won’t be issued for the passengers belonging to these six states.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led state government has directed the railway to impose the Covid appropriate behavior rigorously as well as to conduct thermal screening at all exits in stations, as per the report of ANI.

Though earlier, the Indian Railways has already preconized that a fine of Rs 500 would be imposed on the ones who are traveling without masks on.

“To prevent spitting an act of similar nature and this to ensure wearing of face masks/face covers by all persons at railway premises (including trains), fines (up to Rs 500) under Indian Railways (Penalties for activities affecting cleanliness at railway premises) Rules, 2012 shall be imposed by railway officials authorized for this purpose, from persons not wearing face masks/covers at railway premises (including trains)”, said the Railway Ministry by issuing an order.

On Saturday, April 17, Central Railway announced a new Covid-19 rule for all the passengers travelling through the Indian Railways.

Chief Public Relation Officer of Central Railways said, “Railway officials will impose a fine of up to Rs 500 on people, who are found to be not wearing face mask/face cover on railway premises. The order comes into effect immediately.”

This decision was taken due to surge in COVID-19 cases in India and to prevent the spread of infection and make people more aware to wear mask/face cover.

On Friday, April 9, Chairman and CEO of Railway Board, Suneet Sharma had made important clarifications about the rumours of train being stopped because of the surge in COVID-19 cases. By rejecting the false claim, Sharma said, “Train services will continue to be provided as per the demand. There is no shortage of train services and no plan to stop train services.”

CEO of Railway Board said that there is no plan to curtail or stop train services and clarified that the current rush is normal as it happens every year during Summer.

In a press briefing, Sharma said there was “no cause for alarm” and added that more trains were being pressed into service to clear the rush. In the last few days, migrant labourers have been leaving big cities, like Delhi and Mumbai, as new restrictions are imposed due to COVID-19.

“Train services will continue to be provided as per the demand. There is no shortage of train services and no plan to stop train services,” as said by Railway CEO.

Railway CEO further added that the Indian Railways is adding more trains to clear rush and said, “We are running more trains in April-May 2021 to clear the rush. We have announced 58 trains of Central Railway and 60 trains of Western Railway for places having high demand like Gorakhpur, Patna, Darbhanga, Varanasi, Guwahati, Barauni, Prayagraj, Ranchi, Lucknow.”

L&T shares rise by 2% on securing a project worth ₹1,390 crore

Larsen & Toubro L&T shares rise more than 2 per cent in a weak after the infrastructure giant bagged a contract worth ₹ 1,390 crore from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) for procurement and fabrication of 28 steel bridges for crossing over railway lines, rivers, highways, road, and other structures for the Mumbai Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor, as part of the country’s first bullet train project.

The shares of L&T were trading at ₹ 1,378.60, higher by ₹ 17 or 1.2 per cent, at 9:55 am on the BSE. The shares have touched an intra-day high of ₹ 1,392.80 and a low of ₹ 1,361.15 thus far.

NHSRCL, the organisation responsible for executing the bullet train project, awarded the contract to Larson and Toubro -IHI Infrastructure Systems (Consortium) on January 25.

The scope of work for the C6 package includes construction of viaducts, one station, major river bridges, maintenance depots, and other auxiliary works. This package represents 17.2 per cent of the total length, running elevated from the outskirts of Vadodara to the outskirts of Ahmedabad with one station at Anand / Nadiad.

The BSE Sensex was at 47,986.70, lower by 365 points or 0.75 per cent and the NSE Nifty was at 14,124.20, down 114.85 points or 0.84 per cent at the time.

Good news for the Railways Recruitment Board NTPC applicants, Admit Cards to be issued soon

Railway Recruitment Board(RRB) NTPC admit cards will be available soon. It’s good news for the applicants who have applied for the vacancies. RRB has already informed applicants about their application status and hence those who are qualified and selected for the exam, are going to get their admit cards. However, RRB avails the admit cards minimum of 4-5 days before the examination.

The RRB has done special provision for the applicants belonging to ST/SC category, and thus RRB will avail free sleeper class passes for these students that will help them to travel and reach their examination center without any difficulty.

The examinations are scheduled for 15 December and the mode of examination is going to be Computer-Based-Test (CBT). Amid COVID-19, the RRB will issue some important guidelines for the test, which are to be followed by the candidates.

“No call letter will be sent by post. The CBT Centre, date and shift indicated in the e-call letter shall be final,” the RRBs have said in the exam notification.

“The e-call letters for CBTs, Computer-based Aptitude Test, Typing Skill Test, and document verification (as applicable) should be downloaded only from websites of the Railway Recruitment Boards concerned,” the notification also reads.

Previously, the center has faced several protests by students regarding the delay in the examinations, and declaration of results.

Railway Protection Force sleuth bust hackers using illegal Pakistani software to compromise IRCTC Tatkal system

After a series of raids, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) sleuths from the South Western Railway (SWR) zone have found a complex web of illegal operators and hackers who booked Tatkal tickets using illegal Pakistani software, bypassing the Indian Railways as well as the banks OTP safeguards as well as charging customers five times the normal price.

“In September last year, intelligence agencies alerted on the use of illegal software for bypassing the IRCTC and bank security systems deployed in booking Tatkal tickets throughout India,” said a railway zone official.

A person arrested in this matter has revealed leads about the people behind the activity.

“In January 2020, his whereabouts were tracked to Kendrapara in Odisha where he was arrested and brought to Bengaluru for further investigation by Bengaluru RPF team,” the official said.

It was found from him that he was using Pakistani software of high-level hacking calibre, employing Linux-based systems to break into the applications of ISRO, Railways and other government organisations.

He was found to be using 3,000 bank accounts, Bitcoin and cryptocurrency links and a black market of 25,000 hackers and touts with a high command in India and abroad were detected in his interrogation. The money generated is suspected to be used for several anti-national and criminal activities all over India and overseas.

Top-level intervention at the level of RPF director-general, who personally coordinated through the DIG Railway Board was required for exposing this racket and over 100-panel developers and software sellers were arrested across the country. The officials have also destroyed the seized software codes.
