As several parts of India continue to witness soaring temperatures and intense heatwave conditions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday issued a public appeal urging citizens to take precautions, stay hydrated and extend help to vulnerable people and animals during the extreme weather conditions.

In a series of posts shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said rising temperatures across different parts of the country were creating serious day-to-day challenges and called upon people to act responsibly and compassionately during the ongoing heatwave.

“Different parts of India are witnessing soaring temperatures and the challenges that come with it. This heat is harsh on all of us and I urge you all to take as many precautions as possible,” Modi wrote.

The Prime Minister advised people to remain hydrated, carry water while stepping out and help others facing difficulties in the scorching weather.

“Please stay hydrated, keep water with you when stepping out. Offer a glass of water to others. In weather like this, such kindness goes a long way,” he said.

In his Hindi message, Modi also appreciated citizens who place earthen pots filled with water outside homes and shops for passersby during summer months, describing such gestures as acts of public sensitivity and support.

The Prime Minister further expressed concern for elderly family members and urged people to regularly check on parents, grandparents and loved ones during the heatwave period.

“Whenever possible, call and check on elderly parents, grandparents and loved ones during this heatwave. Remind them to stay hydrated, avoid stepping out in peak afternoon hours and take rest whenever possible,” he posted.

Modi also highlighted the impact of extreme temperatures on animals and birds, appealing to citizens to place bowls of water outside homes, balconies, terraces, shops and offices.

“In this extreme heat, let us also remember the birds and animals around us. A small bowl of water kept outside your home, balconies, terraces, shops or offices can become a lifeline for a thirsty bird,” the Prime Minister said.

India has been experiencing severe summer conditions over the past few weeks, with several states reporting temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave alerts for multiple northern, central and western states, warning of prolonged hot and dry weather conditions in many regions. Reports of heat stress, dehydration and rising power demand have also emerged from several cities.

Authorities across states have been advising people to avoid direct sun exposure during afternoon hours, drink sufficient water and limit outdoor activities during peak heat periods. Schools in some regions have either revised timings or announced temporary closures due to extreme weather conditions.

The Prime Minister’s remarks quickly gained attention online, with thousands of users sharing messages related to hydration, care for elderly people and protection of animals during the heatwave.

The IMD has indicated that hot weather conditions are likely to continue in several parts of the country over the coming days.
