Honda is a well-known and respected brand in the motorcycle market worldwide. It is getting into the high-voltage speed EV market. The brand has been a leader in combustion-engine bikes for decades. Now, it wants to be a leader in electric mobility, but with a twist.

Honda is getting ready to release a high-performance electric motorbike, different from basic e-scooters and passenger EVs. It claims to be both fun and good for the environment, like gas bikes, but with electric power. This isn’t just an update to the technology; it’s a significant change in Honda’s history with two wheelers.

As the interest grows, it’s also a good time to remember to protect your bike with two wheeler insurance, especially if you have a high-value electric vehicle. Find out why this electric beast is one of the most-anticipated two wheeler launches of all time.

Honda’s Vision: Performance Meets Sustainability

Unlike most electric scooters, which are made for riding around cities, Honda’s new electric motorbike is made for speed and precision fans. To explain how the company is changing electric riding:

Segment: High-performance electric motorcycle (not a scooter)

Expected Power Output: Between 70-100 HP

Top Speed: Estimated above 150 km/h

Range: 150-200 km per full charge

Charging Time: Fast-charging support likely (0-80% in under 45 minutes)

Battery Type: Lithium-ion swappable or fixed (to be confirmed)

“Honda e-Moto” could be the name of the EV platform that Honda experts are working on specifically for speed bikes. Leaked patents show a sleek frame, a strong riding style, and an emphasis on torque delivery rather than peak horsepower alone.

Expected Features That Will Redefine the Segment

With its entry, Honda isn’t just putting out another electric car; it’s also trying to set new standards. Here are the most critical features riders can expect, based on early reports and design ideas:

Advanced Powertrain

Mid-drive motor setup for better weight distribution

Water-cooling system for thermal stability

Regenerative braking for energy efficiency

Ride Modes & Traction Control

Eco, City, Sport, and Track modes

Advanced ride-by-wire throttle system

Traction control, hill assist, and possibly launch control

Digital Connectivity

7-inch TFT display with smartphone integration

Bluetooth helmet support

Remote diagnostics via mobile app

Chassis & Handling

Aluminium twin-spar frame for agility

Inverted USD front forks and monoshock rear

Dual-disc front brakes with ABS

These features aim to give speed users who want more than just a quiet commute a high-end EV experience.

Design Philosophy: Sleek, Futuristic, and Functional

Honda’s next electric vehicle (EV) is expected to combine aspects of its classic design with those from the future:

LED headlamps with DRLs

Aerodynamic body panels

Underbelly battery casing for low centre of gravity

Lightweight alloy wheels

The company has made it clear that it cares about rider comfort by ensuring that the ergonomics are suitable for daily and longer weekend trips.

Launch Timeline and Market Expectations

Insiders in the industry say that Honda’s electric racing bike might come out in late 2025 or early 2026. However, this depends on how ready EVs are in the region and how stable the supply chain is.

Prototype Reveal: Expected Q4 2025

Pre-orders: Likely to open shortly after reveal

Pricing Estimate: ₹4.5-6 lakh (depending on battery capacity)

Honda will likely go after tech-savvy millennials and Gen Z riders who want environmentally friendly and fun ways to get around. Honda can grow faster than EV-only companies because its name is well-known and it has an extensive network of dealerships.

Performance vs Practicality: How Honda Plans To Balance Both

Long ago, people thought that performance bikes were more expensive, had less range, and needed a lot of upkeep. However, Honda’s future electric motorbike aims to change this story by perfectly balancing everyday usefulness and powerful performance.

Optimised Range for City plus Weekend Use: With a range of 150-200 km per charge, it handles both daily drives to work and last-minute weekend trips without being charged often.

Charging Ecosystem: Honda is likely to form partnerships with big fast-charging companies. The company may also provide portable charging options for use at home or away.

Battery Safety Tech: Fire-resistant battery casing, real-time BMS (Battery Management System) diagnostics, and strong IP-rated waterproofing will make the motorbike reliable all year.

The focus is clearly on real-world usability, not just headline specs.

The Role of Insurance in the EV Riding Experience

Protecting your investment is even more critical when you get to high-performance electric bikes. EVs have special electrical parts and battery systems that cost a lot of money. Having the proper two wheeler insurance is therefore crucial.

These days, insurance covers more than just crashes and theft. It also covers natural disasters, battery damage, and short circuits caused by charging. People who want to buy Honda’s performance EV should look at different insurance companies that offer plans that cover EVs in their Honda two wheeler insurance market.

Market Competition: Who Else Is in the Race?

Honda won’t be the only one in the race for the best electric motorcycles. Competitors like:

Ultraviolette F77: Made in India, sporty electric bike with a performance focus

Revolt RV400: Mid-range option with a growing urban user base

Tork Kratos: Another domestic player pushing boundaries in EV design

However, Honda has a significant advantage over its competitors because of its reputation for technical precision, longevity, and service after the sale.

Why This Is A Big Moment for Honda?

Honda has made a clear pledge to EVs in the performance space with this launch. Its previous electric scooters, like the Benly e or the PCX Electric, were mainly used for fleet or show purposes. This bike, on the other hand, is aimed at consumers and works all over the world.

This move means the following:

Large-scale switch to an EV plan

Putting money into electric design and research labs

Setting world goals for emissions

Getting ready for what next-generation riders want

It’s more than just a motorbike; it’s Honda’s chance to change its image in the age of electric vehicles.

Conclusion

The future high-performance electric motorbike from Honda could completely change the two wheeler market. Its sleek style, high-performance specs, and focus on the rider will offer more than just green transportation. There’s thrill, science, and duty in it.

Bikes like this will no longer just be a dream, but a reality as battery technology improves and infrastructure grows. But don’t forget that duty always comes with success. Making smart decisions is essential for the road, your safety, and the life of your bike.

So, buying two wheeler insurance will make sure that every ride is not only fun but also safe. From speed to safety, Honda’s new path is one to follow and ride into.

FAQs

Is fast charging possible for Honda’s electric motorcycle?

Yes, Honda is planning to add fast-charging technology to the motorbike. This will let it

charge from 0% to 80% in about 45 minutes using a fast charging setup that works with it.

What makes this bike different from Honda’s other e-scooters?

Honda’s earlier e-scooters were designed for commuting and had low power, but this

electric motorbike is built for speed and performance. This type is better for enthusiasts

               and long-distance users.

Can I get insurance that covers problems that only happen with EVs?

Yes, some Honda two wheeler insurance plans now include features that are special to electric vehicles. For example, they cover battery damage, short circuits, and roadside help. Always carefully read the policy information.

Disclaimer: The above information is for illustrative purposes only. For more details, please refer to the policy wordings and prospectus before concluding the sales.

Honda is reportedly willing to revive takeover discussions with Nissan, aiming to create the world’s fourth-largest automaker, but with a significant condition—Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida must step down. This comes after the collapse of merger talks earlier this month, which had aimed to combine Honda, Japan’s second-largest automaker, with Nissan, the third-largest, to create a $60 billion car manufacturing giant.

The proposed merger faltered when the two companies failed to agree on key terms. Honda, frustrated by Nissan’s financial troubles and slow restructuring, withdrew from negotiations, casting doubt on the future of the deal. However, Honda’s recent shift in stance signals a willingness to re-enter talks, but under new leadership at Nissan.

Uchida, a vocal advocate for the merger, has faced increasing pressure, both internally and from Nissan’s alliance partner Renault, to step down. His handling of the merger talks and Nissan’s restructuring has come under scrutiny, with reports indicating that Nissan’s board is already informally discussing the timing of his departure.

Honda’s move to reinitiate discussions, contingent on Uchida’s exit, highlights the growing tensions between the two automakers. A new leader at Nissan could smooth over internal conflicts and help guide the company through its restructuring, potentially paving the way for a future merger.

Honda and Nissan have officially ended their merger talks, marking the conclusion of what could have been a game-changing partnership....

Honda and Nissan have officially ended their merger talks, marking the conclusion of what could have been a game-changing partnership. The talks, which initially aimed to establish the world’s fourth-largest automaker, fell apart after Honda proposed making Nissan its subsidiary rather than forming a joint holding company. Mitsubishi, initially part of the discussions, also issued a statement confirming the development.

The talks began in March 2024 when the companies signed an MoU to develop a common electric powertrain. By August, a second MoU was signed, focusing on EVs, particularly Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) with AI and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). In December, discussions about a full-fledged merger emerged, raising expectations for a competitive alliance against Tesla and Chinese EV manufacturers.

While the merger is off the table, Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi will continue working together on autonomous driving and EV technology. This partnership remains crucial as automakers face growing competition in the EV sector.

Following the announcement, Honda’s stock surged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, whereas Nissan’s shares saw a decline. Industry analysts suggest that despite the fallout, the continued collaboration on next-gen automotive tech could still yield long-term benefits for all parties involved.

Key Financial Highlights (Consolidated)

Total Income: ₹1,198.07 crores in Q3 FY2025, compared to ₹961.10 crores in Q3 FY2024

Net Profit: ₹11.81 crores in Q3 FY2025, down from ₹18.48 crores in Q3 FY2024

Earnings Per Share (EPS): ₹2.75 (basic) for Q3 FY2025, compared to ₹4.45 in Q3 FY2024

Despite strong revenue growth, net profit for the quarter saw a decline due to higher expenses, including increased employee benefits and finance costs.

The company continued its expansion with notable acquisitions in the Honda and Kia dealership businesses in Rajasthan and West Bengal, respectively. The company also reported a shift in its Mercedes-Benz dealership model, transitioning to an agency-based revenue structure where it earns commissions instead of direct car sales.

Additionally, Landmark Cars Limited has discontinued claiming GST input credit on demo cars following recent regulatory changes, affecting inventory valuation adjustments.

Honda Cars India has successfully obtained E20 fuel compliance certification for its entire lineup, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility. The company revealed that all its vehicles have been E20-material compatible since 2009, allowing customers to adopt the greener fuel without modifications.

With this achievement, Honda has met the Government of India’s requirement ahead of the April 1, 2025, deadline, which mandates all new cars to be E20 fuel-compatible.

Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd., emphasized the brand’s dedication to eco-friendly solutions, stating, “At Honda Cars India, we are committed to driving sustainable mobility solutions. The latest compliance certification for our current models aligns with India’s goal to implement greener fuels.”

The latest launch was the third-generation Amaze subcompact sedan, available in three trims. Recently, Honda announced a price hike of up to ₹30,000 on the Amaze, bringing its price range to ₹8.10 lakh – ₹11.20 lakh (ex-showroom).

As India moves towards cleaner fuel alternatives, Honda Cars India remains at the forefront, ensuring its vehicles meet the latest sustainability standards.

Nissan may call off its merger discussions with Honda according to a Reuters report. The Japanese car giants have faced growing disagreements over leadership and strategic direction, putting the proposed merger at risk.

As per Reuters, Nissan’s board is set to meet soon to evaluate whether to continue or break off negotiations. One key issue appears to be Honda’s suggestion that Nissan could become its subsidiary, contradicting the initial vision of a “merger of equals.”

With Nissan struggling to cut 20% of its global production and downsize 9,000 employees, Honda—valued nearly five times higher—has concerns about its potential partner’s turnaround strategy.

Christopher Richter, senior Japan autos analyst at CLSA, noted that control appears to be a sticking point. He stated, “The news that Nissan did not want to be a Honda subsidiary suggests that control was a contentious issue. Without control, Honda appears to be walking away.”

Both Nissan and Honda have declined to comment on the status of negotiations but confirmed an announcement is expected by mid-February.

If the merger collapses, Nissan will need to explore alternative strategies to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving EV and autonomous vehicle market.

Honda has introduced its two new electric vehicle concepts, the Honda 0 Series, at CES 2025, held on January 7. These innovative concepts include both an SUV and a saloon, showcasing the future of Honda’s electric car lineup. Set to go into production in the United States later this year, the Honda 0 Series will be launched globally in 2026.

The 0 Series will feature a newly developed dedicated EV platform, distinct from the Honda Prologue, which uses General Motors’ Ultium platform. Honda plans to release 30 new electric vehicles globally by 2030, and these models are a significant part of that ambitious strategy.

Though Honda has not revealed full details about the powertrain, the 0 Series is expected to offer single and dual electric motor setups. The single-motor version could generate 241 bhp, while the dual-motor variant may reach up to 482 bhp, with potential four-wheel-drive configurations. The EVs are expected to come equipped with a 90 kWh battery, providing a range of approximately 490 km on a single charge, with an optional 100 kWh battery for long-range versions.

Both models feature sleek, futuristic designs, with interiors that emphasize a minimalist, high-tech approach, including a digital control system. They will also include Level-3 ADAS powered by Honda’s AI technology, promising to improve safety and reduce traffic collision fatalities.

A standout feature is the introduction of ASIMO, a new AI-based operating system for the 0 Series. This OS will control key functions like ADAS and infotainment, and it will receive regular over-the-air updates to enhance performance and functionality.

Honda and Nissan, two of Japan’s leading automakers, announced on December 23 that they have signed a basic agreement to consider integration, according to MoneyControl. The merger, if finalized, would reshape the global automotive industry, with plans to establish a holding company in August 2026 and conclude merger talks by June 2025.

Key highlights of the proposed merger:

Timeline:

Talks to be concluded by June 2025.

Both companies’ shares to be delisted between July and August 2026.

The holding company expected to be listed in August 2026.

Market Valuation:

Honda’s market capitalization exceeds $40 billion, while Nissan is valued at approximately $10 billion.

Sales and Profit Targets:

Combined sales of 30 trillion yen ($191 billion).

Operating profit of more than 3 trillion yen.

Management:

Honda will appoint the majority of the holding company’s board.

Strategic context:

The merger would represent one of the largest industry reshuffles since Fiat Chrysler and PSA Group’s $52 billion merger to form Stellantis in 2021. Honda and Nissan aim to leverage their combined resources to regain competitiveness in key markets like China and the US, where both companies have faced declining sales.

Challenges in the global market:

Nissan recently announced a 20% reduction in global production capacity and plans to cut 9,000 jobs following a drop in sales in China and the US.

Honda, too, reported weaker-than-expected earnings, attributing the decline to increasing competition from local Chinese automakers such as BYD, which dominate the electric and hybrid vehicle segments.

With the merger, Honda and Nissan hope to solidify their positions in the global auto industry and achieve sustainable growth in the evolving electric vehicle market.

Honda and Nissan are preparing to announce the start of business integration talks on Monday, signaling a new phase in their efforts to adapt to a rapidly changing automotive landscape. Sources familiar with the matter revealed to Reuters that the two companies will host board meetings and hold a joint press conference, which Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan’s alliance partner, is also expected to attend.

As per people, the potential merger of Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi Motors would form the world’s third-largest auto group by vehicle sales, following Toyota and Volkswagen. This would be the most significant reshaping of the global automotive industry since the creation of Stellantis in 2021.

The Japanese automakers have been exploring deeper cooperation, particularly in electrification and software development, to address the rising challenges posed by Tesla and Chinese competitors. They have discussed forming a joint holding company and expanding their alliance to include Mitsubishi.

Nissan is also undergoing significant restructuring, including a plan to cut 9,000 jobs and reduce its global production capacity by 20%. Similarly, Honda faces challenges in its key markets, particularly China, where its sales have declined.

Possible forms of integration include Honda supplying hybrid vehicles to Nissan and utilizing Nissan’s UK car assembly factory. Both companies aim to finalize their talks by June 2025. Renault, Nissan’s largest shareholder, has expressed openness to the potential deal, pending a thorough evaluation.

Japanese auto giants Honda and Nissan are reportedly in preliminary talks for a potential merger, with the aim of boosting sales and competing with rivals such as Toyota, Tesla, and BYD in the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market. While both carmakers have not confirmed the merger outright, they have acknowledged ongoing discussions for future collaboration.

The speculation about a Honda-Nissan merger began in March this year when the two companies agreed to explore a strategic partnership, particularly in the EV sector. This move could help them challenge the dominance of larger players like Toyota Motor, which is one of the top five carmakers in India, and Tesla, the leader in the global EV market. Honda and Nissan, however, have a smaller footprint in India, where Honda offers models like the City, Amaze, and Elevate, while Nissan sells the Magnite and X-Trail SUVs.

Nissan, currently struggling with cost-cutting measures and layoffs, is expected to sever its longstanding ties with French automaker Renault as part of this new venture. This merger would allow both Japanese companies to leverage each other’s strengths and increase their competitive edge in the global EV race.

Honda and Nissan have expressed that they are still exploring a wide range of possibilities for collaboration, and no official decisions have been made. Both companies have emphasized their commitment to informing stakeholders at the appropriate time about any updates.

Honda has announced plans to introduce three new models in India by 2026-27, focusing on hybrid and electric powertrains to tap into the rapidly growing SUV market. Currently, Honda’s India portfolio includes three models, with the newly launched third-generation Amaze being a compact sedan and the only SUV being the Elevate.

Takuya Tsumura, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, emphasized that these upcoming models will help Honda strengthen its presence in the SUV segment, which now accounts for over 50% of the domestic passenger vehicle market. The SUV segment’s growth is a key driver for Honda’s future strategy in India.

The newly launched Amaze, starting at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), continues to compete with popular compact sedans like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Hyundai Aura. It is available in both manual and automatic variants and comes equipped with Honda Sensing, the brand’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), making it the most affordable car in India with this advanced safety feature.

Honda’s growth in India is also evident in the continued success of the Amaze. Since its launch in 2013, Honda has sold 5.8 lakh units of the Amaze, and the company expects an increase in sales with the new generation model. Kunal Behl, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Honda Cars India, believes that while the hatchback segment is declining, the demand for compact sedans remains strong, offering significant growth opportunities.

Honda Cars India is set to make a significant move into the electric vehicle (EV) market with plans to introduce a fully electric model by 2026-27. As the Indian automotive industry braces for a wave of electric cars, Honda aims to carve out its own niche by launching a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) based on its Elevate SUV. Alongside this, the company will offer two other models featuring hybrid powertrains.

Takuya Tsumura, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, emphasized that the decision to debut an electric vehicle first aligns with the anticipated introduction of CAFÉ 3 norms in 2027. “We will be introducing three models 2026-27. One is a battery-electric vehicle based on Elevate and two others. We can say those three models will be hybrid or battery-electric vehicles. As part of the global company’s policy, we are going to keep introducing and increasing the ratio of electrified vehicles,” he said.

The company’s move comes as automakers race to meet increasing consumer demand for green vehicles and stricter environmental regulations. Honda’s focus on electrified solutions will complement the growing trend of sustainable mobility in India.

By 2026-27, Honda is set to introduce three electrified models, signaling a significant commitment to India’s evolving automotive landscape. With its mix of electric and hybrid vehicles, Honda aims to cater to the diverse needs of Indian consumers while contributing to the shift towards greener, cleaner transportation.

Honda Two Wheeler, the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer, announced its plans to introduce its first electric vehicle (EV) in India in the fiscal year 2024-25.

While acknowledging the company’s delayed entry into the EV category, Honda Two Wheelers Director of Sales and Marketing Yogesh Mathur highlighted that the timing is in line with the market’s rising demand. The first EV, most likely an electric scooter, is expected to be unveiled during the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo.

Mathur added that Honda’s delay was a strategic decision, as the firm aimed to increase its presence in the 110 cc motorbike sector with the Honda Shine 100. However, Honda believes that now is the ideal moment to enter the market, since the market for electric two-wheelers has grown from 5% of the total market to 8%. By 2030, the company expects that electric vehicles will account for one-third of its domestic sales. While information about the electric scooter is limited, it is likely to have battery-swapping technology.

Nissan Motor and Honda Motor are exploring using standardized automotive software and collaborating on electric car charging, according to the Nikkei newspaper on Thursday, both of which might reduce their costs.

Nissan and Honda stated in March that they were considering a strategic collaboration to produce EV components as they seek a stronger presence in the worldwide market for battery-powered vehicles, which is likely to grow in the coming years.

The third- and second-largest manufacturers in Japan were seeking to collaborate on developing the vehicle’s operating system in an effort to bring down costs, Nikkei said, without citing its source.

According to the Nikkei, Nissan and Honda may collaborate to improve charging infrastructure in order to raise their competitiveness in EVs, and they are believed to be exploring cooperating in six areas as part of their potential partnership.

They are open to working together in any location, both in Japan and abroad, Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida stated in March.

Nissan refused to speak on the Nikkei report but stated that the companies were exploring different partnerships and would release details at the proper time. A Honda representative did not react to a request for comment.

Honda is set to revolutionize motorcycle safety with its latest airbag technology, which promises to be a game-changer in rider protection. Recent patents reveal that Honda is working on an advanced airbag system for motorcycles, taking inspiration from the safety features found in cars.

Airbags have been a transformative addition to motorcycle safety in recent years, offering riders an extra layer of protection in the event of a crash. Honda’s new airbag system is designed to further enhance this safety by deploying from the rear part of a motorcycle’s fuel tank section, hidden under the bodywork. This design is akin to how airbags are concealed behind the surfaces of car interiors, such as the steering wheel and passenger-side dashboard.

While the concept of an airbag on a motorcycle may seem unusual at first, it addresses a crucial aspect of motorcycle crashes. Unlike car crashes, where occupants are typically restrained within the vehicle, motorcycle riders are often separated from the bike during a crash. This separation is a desired outcome, as it reduces the impact force on the rider. However, there are instances where the rider may still be in contact with the bike or may be impacted by other objects after separation, increasing the risk of injury.

Honda’s innovative airbag system is designed to mitigate this risk by inflating in a way that wraps around the rider, providing a cushioning effect as they fall. The system utilizes two inflators that seal to maintain the airbag’s inflation, ensuring continuous protection for the rider. Once deployed, the airbag detaches from the motorcycle, allowing the rider to safely separate from the bike without hindrance.

Ducati’s General Manager, Gigi Dall’Igna, has criticized Honda and Yamaha for their MotoGP bike development strategies. Dall’Igna believes that both manufacturers made a strategic blunder by tailoring their bike improvements to the preferences and capabilities of their star riders, Marc Marquez and Fabio Quartararo, respectively.

In contrast, Ducati has embraced a collaborative approach, seeking input from all riders, resulting in their dominance in recent years. Ducati, with eight motorcycles on the grid, has surpassed Honda and Yamaha in terms of race victories and currently leads the championship standings.

Dall’Igna argued that the feedback from top riders is not always reliable, as their exceptional skills can mask the weaknesses of the bike. He also stated that Ducati riders will have the freedom to race as they please if the current situation persists at the end of the season.”

Honda has made a significant return to the SUV market with the global debut of its latest model, the Elevate....

Honda has made a significant return to the SUV market with the global debut of its latest model, the Elevate. The unveiling event in New Delhi emphasized Honda’s commitment to the growing SUV segment. While Honda is not new to SUVs, having previously introduced the CR-V and BR-V in India, the Elevate adds a fresh and exciting option to their lineup. The booking process for the Elevate will commence in July 2023, followed by the announcement of its price.

In terms of specifications, the Elevate is powered by the same 1.5-liter petrol engine found in the City sedan. However, Honda has also revealed its plans to introduce a fully electric powertrain for the Elevate in response to the increasing demand for electric vehicles.

In terms of size and design, the Elevate bears similarities to the popular CR-V sold globally. With dimensions of 4,312mm in length, 1,790mm in width, 1,650mm in height, and a 2,650mm wheelbase, it aligns with competitors such as the Creta in terms of size. The SUV offers a spacious 458-liter boot capacity and an impressive ground clearance of 220mm, surpassing the Creta’s 190mm.

The exterior design of the Elevate showcases a prominent grille with the Honda logo at the center, complemented by sleek LED headlights and fog lamps. The LED daytime running lamps are connected by a substantial chrome bar, reminiscent of the City sedan. The SUV features flared wheel arches with sturdy plastic cladding, giving it a robust and muscular appearance. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, similar to the facelifted City model.

At the rear, the Elevate exhibits a slightly angled window and wraparound tail-lights connected by a red bar, resembling the latest-generation WR-V available in select markets. Additionally, there is an indentation on the tailgate designed to accommodate the number plate.

Inside the cabin, the Elevate offers a free-standing 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. While it provides a single-pane sunroof, some of its competitors offer panoramic sunroofs. The SUV is equipped with a 7-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, lane-watch camera, wireless charging, wireless smartphone integration supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a rear parking camera. Honda has also equipped the Elevate with its Sensing ADAS suite, which includes advanced safety features like collision mitigation braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, road departure warning, and automatic high beam assist.

Built on Honda’s Global Small Car platform, shared with the City sedan, the Elevate is powered by a 121hp, 1.5-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine generating 145Nm of torque. It can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT.

Competing in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment, the Elevate will face tough rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor, and the upcoming Citroen C3 Aircross. With its SUV re-entry, Honda aims to gain traction in the SUV market, given its current sedan-focused lineup in India. While pricing details for the Elevate are yet to be disclosed, Honda is expected to unveil them in the coming months.

Excitingly, the Elevate is produced in India and will also be exported to various international markets, further expanding Honda’s presence and appeal in the SUV segment. The Elevate represents Honda’s determination to make a strong impression and offer customers an enticing choice in the midsize SUV segment.

Honda Motor’s Chief Executive Officer Takahiro Hachigo would step down and Toshihiro Mibe of the automaker’s research and development arm...

Honda Motor’s Chief Executive Officer Takahiro Hachigo would step down and Toshihiro Mibe of the automaker’s research and development arm will be appointed as the new CEO on April 1.

Hachigo will hold his position as company’s board member, Japan’s second-biggest automaker by sales said in a statement.

Mibe, 59, joined Honda in 1987, with stints in engine development and the drivetrain business. He became the president of Honda’s R&D unit in 2019, working with Hachigo to push through structural reforms.

Mibe’s appointment, comes as Honda races to catch up in the field of all-electric cars and faces competition from new entrants and tech giants such as Tesla, Apple and Amazon.

Honda is known for its fuel-efficient internal-combustion engines, Honda launched its first mass-produced all-battery vehicle last August. It has said it wants new-energy vehicles such as plug-in hybrids and fuel-cell cars to make up two-thirds of its sales by 2030.

The two executives will hold a news conference at 5 p.m. (0800 GMT).

During his six years as CEO, Hachigo sought to simplify the vehicle development process by combining some operations for cars and motorcycles. He also slashed costs by streamlining Honda’s model line-up and consolidating factories at home and overseas.

Hachigo also expanded a partnership with General Motors Co to include cooperation in developing electric and autonomous vehicles.

Honda last year said it would stop participating as an engine supplier in the FIA Formula One World Championship at the end of the 2021 season, to focus on zero emission technology.

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI), the country’s second-largest manufacturer of two-wheelers with over 7000 employees across its four plants...

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI), the country’s second-largest manufacturer of two-wheelers with over 7000 employees across its four plants in India rolled out a letter on January 5 offering voluntary retirement to its employees in order to “maintain its existence” in a highly competitive market.

“The Indian auto industry is going through an exceptionally challenging phase considering the prolonged demand slowdown and economic fallout from the coronavirus crisis,” HMSI said in the letter, which was reviewed by Reuters.

The scheme can either be availed by the employees who have completed 10 years of service or are over 40 years of age as of January 31, 2021. A senior manager or a vice president would receive over 7 million rupees, depending upon employees years of service. The company also added that it is offering an additional amount of Rs 5,00,000 to the first 400 people who will opt for retirement.

The sales of HMSI plunged 32% to 2.4 million units with overall sales of two-wheelers falling 25% during the first 8 months of the current fiscal year. The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the situation for automobile companies in India which had already been hit by slowing demand since 2019.

Japan-based Honda Motor Co Ltd. on November 11 said it will be the world’s first automaker to mass-produce level 3...

Japan-based Honda Motor Co Ltd. on November 11 said it will be the world’s first automaker to mass-produce level 3 autonomous cars. The step will allow drivers to let their vehicles navigate congested expressway traffic. The company has received approval from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT). The company will be able to produce level 3*1 automated cars.

The company shared information about its automated vehicle saying “Honka is planning to launch sales of a Honda Legend equipped with the newly approved automated driving equipment (“Traffic Jam Pilot”) before the end of the current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2021).” This comes after Japan’s government earlier in the day awarded a safety certification to Honda’s autonomous “Traffic Jam Pilot” driving technology.

The company’s press release also mentions the amendment of the Road vehicle act by the government. “To promote the commercialization of Level 3 automated vehicles, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) partially amended the Road Vehicle Act, and the revised act (Act No. 14 of 2019) took effect on April 1, 2020. By this amendment, equipment for Level 3 automated driving was newly added to the list of motor vehicle equipment subject to the safety standards (defined in the Ministry of Transport Ordinance No.67, 1951).”
