Mahindra partners with Hero to make electric bikes

Hero Electric and Mahindra Group Hero Electric and Mahindra Group have today announced their partnership to manufacture Electric bikes. As per the agreement, Mahindra group will manufacture Hero Electric’s electric bikes; Optima and NYX, at their Pitampur plant to satisfy the growing demands of the market.

With this collaboration along with the expansion of their present Ludhiana facility, Hero will be proficient enough to meet its demand of manufacturing over 1 million EVs per year by 202 2. This will aid them to drive adoption of a cleaner mode of transport.

“Hero Electric has been leading the Electric two-wheeler sector in the country. To further deepen its roots and strengthen the leadership, Hero Electric has endorsed a partnership with the Mahindra Group, which is leading the EV transition in the electric three and four-wheeler space. This coming together of two industry leaders is to further enhance the manufacturing capabilities to meet demand and utilize Mahindra Group’s robust supply chain to reach newer centres in the country,” says Naveen Munjal, MD, Hero Electric.

The long-term partnership will also see both the companies make the most out of each other’s deep knowledge of EVs and drive new product development in the next few years. We look forward to creating more synergies with them in the near future,” he further added.

The collaborating efforts will be a key factor in flourishing the platform approach to help electrification of the Peugeot Motorcycles portfolio. EV maker Hero Electrics raises Rs 220 crore in funding from GII and OAKS

Amid increasing competition with Ola Electric and Ather Energy, electric scooter company, Hero Electric has raised Rs 220 crore in series B funding. The fundraise saw participation from Gulf Islamic Investments(GII) in addition to existing investor OAKS. OAKS had earlier invested a sum of Rs 140 crore in the electric vehicles(EV) company in 2018.

The proceeds from the fundraiser would be used by the company to expand its production capacity, invest in new technologies and strengthen its leadership in the market, Hero Electric’s Managing Director Naveen Munjal told financialexpress.com.

With the government’s formulating favorable policies for electric vehicles, competition has been heating up in the sector. Hero Electric’s competitor, Ather Energy has been raising funds aggressively, having raised Rs 260 crore last year in series D funding. Ather is backed by Hero MotoCorp. . Ridesharing company Ola is also making a foray into the EV sector, announcing a plan to invest up to Rs 2,400 crore to build an EV scooter manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu.

According to a report by financialexpress.com, Hero Electric has set the target to sell over 1 lakh two-wheeler EVs during the financial year 2021-22. Naveen Munjal told the publication that the company had installed 1,650 charging stations across the country to facilitate the growth in sales of EV’s. “now even in terms of sticker price EVs are more affordable(than petrol two-wheelers),” he told financialexpress.com.

1. Mahindra Electric

Hyundai has charged up the Indian electric vehicle ecosystem, with its Kona EV. The company launched its electric car in India with an ARAI-certified range of 452 km. Equipped with a lithium-ion polymer battery, against the conventional nickel-metal hybrid batteries Kona offers excellent charging and discharging efficiency. The company has also claimed that EV has been designed to make it more suitable for Indian operating conditions.

4. Maruti Suzuki

Maruti is known to manufacture one of the most popular cars in the country – WagonR and now the popular company has even launched it electric version called Maruti WagonR EV. Maruti Suzuki has been road-testing the WagonR EV for quite some time now and the car was planned to launch in 2020, however, the reason cited for the delay was reportedly said to be poor infrastructure.

The leading automobile brand was “official” purchased by Tata Motors Ltd, and now even Jaguar is expected to launch the I-Pace in India in 2021.
