Montra and Green Drive Partner to Accelerate Clean Mobility in Logistics Sector

In a significant step toward sustainable transportation, Montra Electric, the clean mobility arm of the Murugappa Group, has partnered with Green Drive Mobility to deploy 50 EVIATOR electric small commercial vehicles (e-SCVs) across India. The initiative aims to enhance fleet efficiency and support carbon-free mobility across first-mile, mid-mile, and last-mile delivery segments.

Under the agreement, the deployment will take place over the next three months, with vehicles integrated into Green Drive Mobility’s tech-driven fleet system, which includes real-time tracking, smart route planning, and AI-based performance analytics.

Saju Nair, CEO of TIVOLT Electric Pvt. Ltd. (SCV division of Montra Electric), and Hari Krishna, Founder & CEO of Green Drive Mobility, formalized the partnership, emphasizing their joint commitment to a cleaner logistics ecosystem.

The Montra EVIATOR, known for its high load capacity, advanced software-defined vehicle (SDV) capabilities, and energy efficiency, is expected to align seamlessly with Green Drive’s mission of enabling sustainable logistics for ESG-focused enterprises.

With this collaboration, both companies aim to contribute to India’s green mobility mission and set a benchmark for commercial EV deployment in the logistics sector.

Danish start-up NitroVolt has secured €750,000 ($815,000) in funding to develop its innovative ‘Nitrolyzer’ unit. This technology aims to produce zero-emissions ammonia using only air, water, and green energy, providing a more environmentally friendly alternative to current production methods.

Ammonia plays a crucial role in global agriculture, with half of the world’s food supply relying on it. However, the dominant method of producing ammonia, which involves burning fossil fuels and using highly polluting grey hydrogen, is a major contributor to global CO2 emissions. In fact, current production methods emit as much CO2 as the entire aviation industry.

NitroVolt’s Nitrolyzer unit offers a solution to this problem by enabling cheaper and local production of ammonia. The technology utilizes a ‘lithium-mediated ammonia synthesis reactor’ to produce green ammonia directly at the point of use, such as on farms. This approach removes fossil fuels from the production process, making the ammonia 100% renewable, carbon-free, and competitive with current black ammonia prices on the market.

The funding round was led by Swedish venture capital fund BackingMinds and follows a grant from Breakthrough Energy, the innovation fund of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, which NitroVolt received last year. The support from these investors highlights the growing demand for sustainable solutions in agriculture and the potential of NitroVolt’s technology to transform the industry.

One of the key advantages of NitroVolt’s technology is its ability to make ammonia production resilient to supply chain volatility. By producing ammonia locally and using renewable energy sources, the technology reduces dependence on imported ammonia and fossil fuels, making it an attractive option for farmers and agricultural producers.

Lisa Mansell, United Utilities’ Chief Engineer (Innovation), highlighted the project’s significance, noting the dual production of hydrogen and graphene from waste. The upcoming trial at the Manchester Bioresources Centre aims to validate the technology’s effectiveness, potentially paving the way for its implementation across wastewater treatment sites in the northwest. Ian Hopkins, Levidian’s Chief Commercial Officer, described the technology as “ultra-green,” distinguishing it from electrolysis by its innovative use of methane without depleting water resources or contributing to CO2 emissions.

If successful, this technology could revolutionize waste management and hydrogen production, aligning closely with the UK’s Net Zero ambitions.
